The “Baños del Inca” (” Inca’s Bath” or “Inca Baths”) are a set of natural hot springs located to six kilometers of the city of Cajamarca in the north Andean zone of Peru to 2667 meters above sea level. This recreational and historical complex is composed by several gardens and pools. The average temperatures of these hot mineral springs is around 70ºC (158ºF) and according to the popular belief, the thermal waters possess therapeutic properties for treatment of bone and nervous system disorders; as well as bronchial and rheumatic sufferings.

Planckendael zoo.
Planckendael is a zoo, located on the grounds of Planckendael castle in the village district of Muizen, in Mechelen, Belgium. In 1956 the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp (KMDA) bought the Planckendael estate in order to acquire a larger space for animals than what they owned: the city zoo in Antwerp.
Planckendael also has extensive leisure facilities: For children there is a large separate play area.

Larosterna inca
Without doubt, the best Tern in the World!
These gorgeous birds are found coastally along the shores of Peru and Chile.
We only saw a small number of juveniles, but this one offered good views....
Once again many thanks to Inca and Janfree for their hospitality in Alicante. Big respects.

The Inca tern is a near-threatened species of tern in the subfamily Sterninae of the family Laridae. It is found along the Pacific coasts of Chile, Ecuador and Perú, and has appeared as a vagrant in Central America and Hawaii.
All fluffed up and basking in the early light in my backyard on a cold Winter's morning, Red Oak trees still had some color even in January.
Scientific name: Columbina inca
The Incas, as some other Andean indians, were master of stone work and architecture of incredible beauty. Although they were short people, they worked with huge stones, many far taller than they. No one knows how they did this. The above image shows the obvious mastery and makes clear the size of the rocks. I am 5'10" and when I stood in this entrance way, I was half as tall as the whole entrance way. This photo was taken in Pisac, an Inca settlement not far from Cuzco. It is now in ruins. Yet these rocks are still in place after many earthquakes. The stone walls in Cuzco have outlasted the Spanish buildings built around them. Here is a typical wall that runs along a street in Cuzco: www.flickr.com/photos/rich_eye/2659208253/in/set-72157606...

Inca Jay - Cabañas San Isidro
Bird Species (# 207) that I photographed and placed on my Flickr Photostream. Overall goal is 1000
A 500-year-old figurine, found buried with an Inca mummy, harks back to a time when the Inca Empire stretched from Colombia to central Chile and ruled more than 12 million people.
Rich in colorful textiles and well-ordered cities and marked by occasional human sacrifices and mummifications, the empire was conquered by the Spanish in 1532 but retains its hold on the human imagination.
The capital city of the Incan empire was Cuzco, which was located in the Andes Mountains in today’s Peru. What is left of the Inca civilization is scattered over the highlands of the Andes. The descendants of the Inca are mostly peasants who make up about half of Peru’s population.
Situated high above the village of Pisac ,in the Andes, is an archeological site of the Incas. It consists of four seperate groups of buildings & a huge terraced area. Whilst not in quite as dramatic a setting as Machu Picchu, nevertheless ,it is an impressive & interesting site.
Could be Golden Inca, Gecko or one of several other yellow/gold Leucadendrons.
Leucadendron is a genus of about 80 species of flowering plants in the family Proteaceae, endemic to South Africa, where they are a prominent part of the fynbos vegetation.
They are evergreen shrubs or small trees growing up to 1–16 m tall. The leaves are spirally arranged, simple, entire, and usually green, often covered with a waxy bloom, and in the case of the Silvertree, with a distinct silvery tone produced by dense silky hairs. The flowers are produced in dense inflorescences; they are dioecious, with separate male and female plants. The seed head is a woody cone-like structure, containing numerous seeds; the seed morphology is varied and reflects subgeneric groupings within the genus. A few such as the Silvertree have a silky-haired parachute, enabling the large round nut to be dispersed by wind. A few are rodent dispersed, cached by rats, and a few have elaiosomes and are dispersed by ants. About half the species store the seeds in fire-proof cones and only release them after a fire has killed the plants. Almost all species only recruit naturally after fires.

The Inca Dove has a distinctive scaly appearance. It is significantly smaller than the Whitewing or Mourning Dove. In Texas, the Whitewing and Mourning Dove are extensively hunted in season. The Inca Dove is a protected species year-round.
This species rarely visits my backyard in the Texas Hill Country. The Inca Dove had a significant impact on the native American tribes and on the westward bound settlers, traders, trappers, explorers, and other human critters who ventured across the arid expanse of the southwestern frontiers. You could bet your life that the flight of an Inca Dove would lead you directly to the nearest water hole!
