So many butterfly's this year. It was a slow start, but once they started coming in there were a lot of opportunities. I am still seeing some here and there.

Mrs. Browner of Adelaide Road in Dublin dressed up in her finery to pose for Arthur Henri in his studio in Waterford for this fine portrait. Older women tended to dress in black as a matter of course, but were these indeed “Widows Weeds”, or is Morning Mary in her dotage??

Today we are posting our 3,000th image to Flickr, and at the rate of one per day that is a great piece of work! From the early days onwards with Carol posting and giving us all the benefit of her quirky humour, and on to the Marys we have had some mighty craic. Best of all has been the contributions to the research of the images, and the stories behind them. On behalf of all at the National Library, Carol, and the Marys, we say thank you for all who stayed the course!

Twice a year the sun rises in the middle axis of the triumphal arch, in Paris.
It takes just a few minutes, the light is a real beauty... everything seems to be stopped.

How many songbirds fly to and fro
In an English country garden?
We'll tell you now of some that we know
Those we miss you'll surely pardon
Bobolink, cuckoo and quail
Tanager and cardinal
Bluebird, lark, thrush and nightingale
There is joy in the spring
When the birds begin to sing
In an English country garden

We always live in hope that no more poppies will be added on the field of war.
The outermost part of the poppy flower is the sepals.
In the early stages of development, the sepals resemble two individual, yet partially joined, orbs which gradually lengthen and split lengthwise as the developing flower prepares to bloom.
The foliage, stem and sepals are covered with thousands of fine hairs that protect the bud and plant from insect attack.
The sepals, light green during early growth, turn to a pale shade of beige towards the end of their tenure.
Once the flower is ready to bloom, the sepals detach from the stem and eventually fall away when the poppy flower slowly unfurls its matured petals.
Thank you, M, (*_*)

In my place, in my place
Were lines that I couldn't change
I was lost, oh yeah
I was lost, I was lost
Crossed lines I shouldn't have crossed
I was lost, oh yeah
Yeah how long must you wait for it?
Yeah how long must you pay for it?
Yeah how long must you wait for it?
Oh for it
I was scared, I was scared
Tired and under prepared
But I wait for it
If you go, if you go
Leave me down here on my own
Then I'll wait for you (yeah)
Yeah how long must you wait for it?
Yeah how long must you pay for it?
Yeah how long must you wait for it?
Oh for it
Sing it, please, please, please
Come back and sing to me, to me, me
Come on and sing it out, now, now
Come on and sing it out, to me, me
Come back and sing it
In my place, in my place
Were lines that I couldn't change
And I was lost, oh yeah, oh yeah

My pear photo in a photography book :-) The only one of my Getty sales that I've actually found in use.
The book is The Complete Photographer by Tom Ang
And yes, I bought a copy especially :-)
I think the Tufted Titmouse is definitely on my list of cutest birds, but they are seriously one of the toughest for me to photograph! I always have them in the tree outside my house buy they never sit still long enough for me to get a shot. This one isn't perfect but I decided that a little sliding would be just the thing!
I've decided that I like getting pictures of the birds singing (like the Wren I posted last week and the House Finch a few months ago) and I think I"m going to make it my goal to get as many shots as I can like this! (Of course I shouldn't push my luck since I"m pretty happy to get any picture of a bird at all!).

At the Italian Center for Photography in Turin, from February 14th to June 2nd, 'Henri Cartier-Bresson and Italy', the most important monographic exhibition ever realized focusing on the long relationship between the French master and our country."
Grabbed this one while meeting a good friend in the city to discuss a super secret project I'll be working on ;-)
We just so happened to stop by the 42nd Street Subway stop. I found that the sharp and long shadows worked well in black and white. This photo is pretty much right out of camera. Only converted to jpeg from RAW. Normally (obvioulsy) I would edit. Though I wasn't in the mood.

In un momento
Sono sfiorite le rose
I petali caduti

I went out and shot this weekend and when I got home, the daffodils were blooming! Of course, when I start editing, the first photo that catches my eye was the one taken in my backyard! What's up with that?
.......a bit like the storm winds that keep hitting these shores.
Wrap up warm and put on your welly boots all in the U,K. Another storm
is about to hit us very soon....the rains have already started.
Keep safe, warm, and dry my dear friends.
We have been warned that there may be power cuts so if you don't hear from
your U.K friends for a bit....you will all know why. ;-))
I am hoping that we keep our power on....you don't realize how much you rely on things until
they are suddenly not there.

The red kite (Milvus milvus) is a medium-large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as eagles, buzzards, and harriers. The species currently breeds in the Western Palearctic region of Europe and northwest Africa, though it formerly also occurred in northern Iran. It is resident in the milder parts of its range in western Europe and northwest Africa, but birds from northeastern and Central Europe winter further south and west, reaching south to Turkey. Vagrants have reached north to Finland and south to Israel, Libya and Gambia.
IN MEMORIAN
i este, ¡miñas lembranzas!
i aquel, ¡ou meus amigos!
Todos sospiran, todos,
por algún ben perdido.
Eu só non digo nada,
eu só nunca sospiro,
que o meu corpo de terra
i o meu cansado esprito,
adondequer que eu vaia
.vai comigo.
