In diesem, MEINEM neuesten Werk,
habe ICH die Essenz des Sommers allegorisch dargestellt,
auf dass Ihr Euch alle sonnenbaden und laben könnt.
Wer will, kann sich tiefer darin hinein versenken;
und wenn Ihr das lange und intensiv genug macht,
könnt Ihr vielleicht einen Blick auf die kleinen Wolfis erhaschen,
die MIR so lieb san ... -
fast noch liaba, als MEINE zwoa Butler ...
A Praying Mantis trying to blend in with it's surroundings.
The Praying Mantis is named for it's prominent front legs which are bent and held together at an angle that suggests the position of prayer. They are typically green or brown, depending on their habitat.
Many thanks to all who take the time to view, comment or fav my images.

Taken for ODC - In The Distance
My 2 year old son with his very own tripod! taken with my phone so not the best quality but I really like the shot.
Sorry for two almost identical photos in a row. I received a critique that my previous composition was poor because I didn't include the legs. I find it quite a challenge to compose, focus and zoom as an animal moves towards me. So, here is one with the whole cross fox.
I find white balance with snow is very tricky. I welcome anyone's thoughts on the warmer previous shot and this cooler temp which gives the snow a bluish tint. I've lived all my life in cold climates and even looking outside I am not sure which looks 'right'. I think I prefer the cooler blue, even if it isn't accurate.

Quite a while ago, Scott made this tree for me and I have to say it's my favourite of his pieces that he's given me.
He's made some beautiful origami pieces, but this always holds top place for me.
Recently, he brought me the elephant pictured here and I thought the stone of the tree made a great perch for him.
I don't have the origami details for the elephant or stars, but if you're interested, watch the comments, Scott will most likely provide all the info needed to fold this little guy and maybe the stars too.
Side Note: Flickr is still being really slow for me, only on the web though, the app seems fine... frustrating
Hope everyone has had a good day.

In 1862, the Countess of Ripon commissioned Sir George Gilbert Scott to build this church in memory of the first Earl, her husband, on their estate at Nocton, near Lincoln. This was completed in 1863 in an elaborate Early English style in Ancaster stone, with plate tracery and a 130 foot steeple. The builder was Mr W Hudleston. Scott also designed a monument to the Earl in 1859, the effigy by Noble in 1862, executed by Farmer, to go in the completed church.
In the village, Scott designed terraces of partly three storey stone houses (for example, 18-21 Main Road) in an asymmetrical style, a lodge to Nocton Hall, and a Gothic style school. Her son, the new Marquis of Ripon, who became Lord President of the Council during Gladstone’s first administration (1868–73), would have further dealings with Scott.

Whenever I see a fence like this, particularly one across open grasslands, I start singing the song "Don't Fence Me In". You know... "give me land, lots of land, neath the starry skies above... don't fence me in". I'd always thought of it as a classic country & western song but to my surprise when i googled it, I found it was written by Cole Porter and was first recorded by Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters.
Happy Fenced Friday!
This area of the gardens is one I have had mixed emotions about. I seldom capture great shots in this area, though this particular view wasn't too bad. What I call the courtyard area is between the office building and the area where the dinosaur sculptures are. It is more formal than other areas of the gardens, but not as well planted, which means lots of open areas without a whole lot of interest going on. This time, I took a few shots in this area and had better luck than in the past. Perhaps it was just the vantage point I chose, I don't know, but I'm hoping a couple of the others do well, too. The whole place seems beautiful when you're in there!
I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say "Amen", and it's still raining
As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away
Chorus:
I'll praise You in this storm
And I will lift my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear I've cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

A street shot in Macclesfield. The charity shop that you can just about see on the left had a huge number of vintage cameras in the window a few months ago. At the time I was busy doing other things, so didn't pay too much attention... but I did notice they were all bought in double quick time! Very popular hobby, this!
Thanks for looking :-)

A quick shot of the Orion Nebula (M42), one of my favourite celestial objects and a really satisfying target. I've been waiting a year for an opportunity to image this nebula again, this time with a polar alignment and guiding to enable much longer exposures than the 15 second subs I took last time and with a lower ISO to reduce noise. The next project with this is to either stitch two shots together or, better still, rotate the camera in order to fit both the Orion Nebula and the nearby Running Man Nebula into one frame.
13 x 4 minute exposures at 400 ISO
8 x dark frames
10 x flat frames
21 x bias/offset frames (subtracted from flat frames only)
Total exposure time - 52 minutes
Guided with PHD
Processed in Nebulosity, Maxim DL and Photoshop
Equipment

[Wikipedia] The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated in the Milky Way, being south of Orion's Belt in the constellation of Orion. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. M42 is located at a distance of 1,344 ± 20 light years and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. The M42 nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across. It has a mass of about 2000 times the mass of the Sun. Older texts frequently refer to the Orion Nebula as the Great Nebula in Orion or the Great Orion Nebula.
The Orion Nebula is one of the most scrutinized and photographed objects in the night sky, and is among the most intensely studied celestial features. The nebula has revealed much about the process of how stars and planetary systems are formed from collapsing clouds of gas and dust. Astronomers have directly observed protoplanetary disks, brown dwarfs, intense and turbulent motions of the gas, and the photo-ionizing effects of massive nearby stars in the nebula. [Wikipedia]
On Wednesday, I was walking around campus in a T-shirt enjoying the mid 60s temperatures. By Saturday morning I was standing in my long underwear and a winter coat cursing at the low 20s temperatures. In a classic Upper-Midwest fashion, the region was covered in snow and ice only days after a solid week of pseudo spring weather.
But in this moment, the snow was a welcomed sight as 686 roared around a curve near Donehower West with a pair of 60s. These sights and sounds are sorely missed on the River Sub.
I took this photo in my garden in the morning. The snail seemed to have taken a sunbath on the stairs but suddenly there was definitely too much traffic for her taste, people and cats running up and down the stairs, and she decided to seek refuge in the greenery on the other side of the path. :)
4 Hurricanes in the air together at Duxford`s Flying Legends airshow, there was 5 but the 5th man broke away early to prepare for a solo flying display unfortunately! The Sea Hurricane Z7015 furthest left leads the formation against what could be described as typical Battle of Britain skies?
This amazing capture was photographed in Meridian, Idaho. A snowy and cold morning in December and this pheasant flew in front of my lens. The fog in the background was just right.
Right in the middle of adjusting my Canon 100-400MM L lens for handheld stabilizer mode II. I was panning across and talk about getting startled.

In honour of the NCAA Final Four, today is my fourth and "Final" instalment of this area. I should have been born in Indiana or Kentucky where basketball reigns supreme. I love the game and have enjoyed this years battle.
What I enjoyed most about this angle is how the top came out somewhat black and white and the bottom in color. Of course it is due to my angle to the sun, but it does add to the mystery considering the fog on the distant shore.
We are fortunate and blessed to share this world with so many beautiful creatures. Sometimes, you just sit and stare at them in awe.

In The Garden !!!!!!!!!!!!
This beautiful green crowned brilliant hummingbird was flying around the gardens and it caught my eye. So small but so very beautiful. Costa Rica has so many beautiful species of hummingbirds but I think this one is one of my favorites. I particularly am drawn in by his beautiful eyes. Hope you enjoy him as much as I do.
Have a very blessed day !!!!!!!!!!!!
