Cascade Mountain reflects in Johnson Lake, Banff Alberta.

Today was a Winters day here in Brisbane. The temperature was 24degC, there was almost no wind, and it was just perfect.

This is a Golden Penda tree (Australian rainforest) and there are plenty growing around my suburb. I took it last weekend when they were in their peak, but it was a bit windy, so the branches were dancing around, and annoying me as I tried to take the shot.

Today, the Lorikeets (parrots) were going bananas in the trees enjoying the feast of flowers.

Lorikeets are small to medium-sized arboreal parrots characterized by their specialized brush-tipped tongues for feeding on nectar and soft fruits.

I used the 100mm macro and wound up the ISO to 800 to give me a 3x stop advantage, and took this at f7 1/125 sec handheld.

Because the Penda gives an overpowering yellowness to images, I wanted to adjust it to highlight the stamens so In PS raw converter I wound the black level up significantly, then the adjusted the brightness to compensate so that it produced a highly contrasting yellow on black look.

The image could have been sharper and less noisy in better circumstances.

In a garden..... this cake was made for a dear little girl.... Rachel who turned 4 yesterday. When I asked her a few weeks ago what color would she like her cake to be she said " I like....hmmmm...pink, yellow, red, blues, green, purple, white...in that short time she almost listed the entire range of the rainbow. She also told me she liked lady bugs and pretty flowers.

So here is my little version of a beautiful garden....for a dear little girl.

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did in make it.

Ken & I witnessed a great phenomena on our way home! The little patch of mown ground looked like leftover cotton, or maybe trash, maybe white pelican feathers? I got out to take a closer look and discovered it was a rare form of frost! Frost feathers, or frost flowers- something we have NEVER seen before, and apparently requiring JUST the right conditions! It was like cotton candy/candy floss, scattered along the side of the road!

On the subject of the hole in Princess Street (previous photostream upload refers), there was at least one driver who got caught out...

But to his credit he did pick up a group of stray passengers who had been waiting at the nearby stop, and hadn't twigged either.

GSD K2 Cradling Big Stick Sitting In -7°C Hardened Long Island Snow Contemplating His First Snow (White Christmas) - IMRAN™

It’s funny to imagine I always lay extra layers of blankets atop my (once spotless) light colored carpets in the blessed NewYork home to ensure my dogs never feel cold. But both Kennedy and K2 always showed love of cold weather over hot. Kennedy loved being in cold Tampa Bay waters even in winter, which usually K2 stayed out of.

There was no snow during the 2022 NY home roadtrip that I made with both German Shepherds. However, K2 got to experience his first snow (and white Christmas) this year, 2024.

Clearly, his choosing to comfortably settle down into snow-hardened ground at -7°C (~19F) actual temperature — and -15°C windchill — suggests he doesn’t need extra blankets. 😂 Cradling a huge fallen tree branch as an oversized toy stick, he calmly watched the scene in my backyard.

It was a frigid Sunday as I took this unedited iPhone 16 Pro Max photo. I loved how the rear-sunlight lit up the edges of his forehead and profile.

Aldeburgh is a coastal town in the English county of Suffolk. Located on the River Alde, the town is notable for its Blue Flag shingle beach and fisherman huts where freshly caught fish are sold daily, and the Aldeburgh Yacht Club. The internationally renowned Aldeburgh Festival of arts, which takes place at nearby Snape Maltings, was created in 1948 by the resident and acclaimed composer Benjamin Britten. A popular weekend destination, with second homes making up roughly a third of its residential property, particular attractions are the ancient Moot Hall (where the town council still meets), Napoleonic-era Martello towerto the south, sheltered yachting marina at Slaughden, and two family run shops serving fish and chips, one of which is often cited as among the best fish and chip shops in the UK. Alde Burgh means "old fort" although this structure, along with much of the Tudor town, has now been lost to the sea. In the 16th century, Aldeburgh was a leading port, and had a flourishing ship-building industry. Sir Francis Drake's ships Greyhound and Pelican (later renamed Golden Hind) were both built in Aldeburgh. The flagship of the Virginia Company, the Sea Venture is believed to have been built there in 1608. When the River Alde silted up and was unable to accommodate larger ships, the area went into decline. Aldeburgh survived principally as a fishing village until the nineteenth century, when it became popular as a seaside resort. Much of its distinctive and whimsical architecture derives from this period. The river is now home to a yacht club and a sailing club. Aldeburgh is on the North Sea coast and is located around 87 miles (140 km) north-east of London, 20 miles (32 km) north-east of Ipswich and 23 miles (37 km) south of Lowestoft. Locally it is 4 miles (6.4 km) south of the town of Leiston and 2 miles (3.2 km) south of the village of Thorpeness. It lies just to the north of the River Alde with the narrow shingle spit of Orford Ness all that stops the river meeting the sea at Aldeburgh - instead it flows another 9 miles (14 km) to the south-west. The beach is mainly shingle and wide in places with fishing boats able to be drawn up onto the beach above the high tide. The beach was awarded the Blue flag rural beach award in 2005 and becomes narrower at the neck of Orford Ness. The shingle bank allows access to the Ness from the north, passing a Martello tower and two yacht clubs at the site of the former village of Slaughden. Aldeburgh was flooded during the North Sea flood of 1953 and flood defences around the town were strengthened as a result. The town is within the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and has a number of Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and nature reserves in the local area. The Alde-Ore Estuary SSSI covers the area surrounding the river from Snape to its mouth, including the whole of Orford Ness. This contains a number of salt marsh and mudflat habitats. The Leiston-Aldeburgh SSSI extends from the northern edge of the town to cover a range of habitats including grazing marsh and heathland. This includes Thorpeness Mere and the North Warren RSPB reserve an area of wildlife and habitat conservation and nature trails run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Two smaller geological SSSI units are also found on the southern edges of the town. Aldeburgh Brick Pit is a 0.84 hectares (2.1 acres) site showing a clear stratigraphy of Red Crag deposits above Corralline Crag. It is considered a significant site for demonstrating the stratigraphy of Red Crag. Aldeburgh Hall Pit is a shallow pit of 0.8 hectares (2.0 acres) area. The site features a section of Corralline Crag and is considered to be one of the best sites in Britain for Neogene fauna. It has a number of churches including the Anglican pre-Reformation church of St Peter and St Paul and the Catholic Church of Our Lady and St Peter.

I asked to visit the Maternity hospital in Pyongyang, a big place in the country where most of the women come to deliver.

In fact, we just had the right to see some premature babies in a modern area of the hospital.

This is one of the main problem you meet in NK: you can just see what they allow you to see...

North Korea

In the Pyongyang maternity, the staff showed us a raw of boxes where, thay said, the fathers and family comes to talk to the mother after delivery. It is made to prevent from bacterias. We asked if everybody has to go thru this process, they said yes, but it seems strange.

The official speech:

The Pyongyang Maternity Hospital has been birthplace of at least 710 000 children since its foundation in 1980. More than 390 triplets and quadruplets were born and over 600 triplets have grown up there for the past 30 years since the birth of the first triplet in September 1980. Whenever triplets were born, Kim Jonng Il offered different kinds of gifts including not only clothes, blankets and nutritious food, but also clothes for their wedding dresses.
