In the beauty, among the trees
Face caressed by the summer breeze
Hear the birds sing in the skies
See the clouds, float past your eyes
Walk between the spreading trees
Feel the lovely summer breeze
That falls upon your waiting face
As past you, beauty it does race

This is one off the first photo's taken with my new camera. After saving for it the past year, sathurday it finally came to that. I will always love my powershot and won't leave it in the dust but a camera with a macrolens was just one off my dreams. And if I have learned anything then it is that, when possible, you have to make you're dreams come treu. My husband gave my the sigma 105mm macro and a 50mm 1.8 to get started. I didn't take the kitlens with the camera because I don't think I will be using that. So birding is still going to be powershot :-) but for macro I will be practicing with my new gear. And yes I know I am a very lucky woman...with my husband and with an orange tip for my first shots ;-)
Watched as these two flittered over the land from tree to tree with wonderful glittering clouds overhead. “Free as birds” came to mind, a world unbeknownst to man, the freedom of flight, to sore on the winds. To float on a passing gust while viewing the passing earth for an easy morsel. Man can ride in roaring machines or soar in a sailplane but only the birds have endless abilities to float or fly without some sort of manmade apparatus, to soar at will and land where ever desired. This one is not a contender.....
Tree backlit with fog early in the morning in a valley in Arkansas. In the morning the river was right to the left so the morning fog would always roll into certain spot..It was amazing really to watch the fog roll in at daylight. Those two sticks there were to show where there is a big hole in the ground , so the hay people mowing the hay wouldn't run into it..

Happy Macro Monday everyone
We went hiking along the Skyline to the Sea Trail in the hills of Saratoga, California. This trail goes all the way from Saratoga to the sea, a 2-3 day hike. We once hiked to the sea, my legs were totally dead on arrival. This time only went a short distance for a few hours. No, we did not hike at night, but we found this abandoned VW beetle on the way.
I processed a photographic and a paintery HDR photo from two RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

It's strange to wander in the fog!
A lonely bush, a lonely stone,
No tree can see the other one,
And one is all alone.
The world was full of friends back then,
As life was light to me;
But now the fog has come,
And no one can I see.
Truly, no one is wise,
Who does not know the dark
Which inevitably and silently
Does from others him part.
It's strange to wander in the fog!
Life is loneliness
No Man knows the other one,
And one is all alone.
[Hermann Hesse]
This poem from Hermann Hesse is one of my favourites. I hope the persons in my pic know the other one... :-)
I was wandering around Seattle Center with my daughter and as we were near the fountain leaving there was a rainbow! I did the best I could with no polarizer (lost) and no tripod...
When it comes to cypress tree formations in the swamps, I have not seen groupings more perfectly aligned and spaced as these five trees. However, credit to this scene goes to my buddy David, who has spent considerable time exploring the bayou and finding some of the best spots for swamp photography.
This was taken on the third straight morning of misty conditions. I first set off to this area of the swamp grove, knowing the mist is usually best pre-sunrise and that the mist here tends to dither away once temperatures start warming. Although I shot this scene the first morning, I made another attempt to improve upon my initial shot. With three in the front, two in the back, this formation reminds me of a starting five ready for a performance.
If you're going to Photokina in Germany next week, stop by the Lensbaby booth and check out my photo. I'm told this photo will be printed around 5ft wide. Heck, just stop by their booth anyways. They have some fun lenses.
Thanks, Lensbaby!

In ordinary life we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.

thanks for your birthday wishes - i really appreciate them :)
This is me in 1892. The photographer told me: "Can you put on a smile and look less arrogant?". That really pissed me off and I looked at him with an even more contemptuous air. He took the photo. I took the first train back to London.

Llegasteis juntos a mi vida y os fuísteis juntos
En un trágico momento, sin posibles despedidas
Me es tan dificil concebir la vida sin ti ...
Desde allá donde estés con Duna, ayúdame a poder soportar tu pérdida
Te quiero
You arrived together in my life and you left together,
In a tragic moment, with no possible good-byes.
It's so hard for me to imagine life without you...
From wherever you are now with Duna, help me to be able to bear your loss.
I love you.

**I'm still on hiatus. I really love the evenings free.
tonight I did try to do some commenting.
basically I live days in the little greenhouse, and I've been spending evening trying some new origami. and reading. and hugging the dogs.
and eating pie while I watch my stomach grow. sigh...
my commenting will be off and on.
When these clouds moved in to position, I did as well. They add a certain extra to the image that helps complete it. This rail line has been shot by all of my cameras over the years, and this one is a little more complete than the rest with the addition of the clouds. They fill that distant draw in the hills that is in need of a finishing element.
Early morning in South-East Iceland, a tiny dust of fresh snow in the mountains and thousands of birds wherever I look, a great place to start the day..!
I just want a little passion
To hold me in the dark
I know I've got some magic

Tori Amos - Take to the sky
This image was taken late in the day, the light was a glorious golden color and this little green decided he would have a little green tantrum right in front of me. Of course I was thrilled.
"In the Beginning" both in the biblical and literal sense... This old church is the only thing left of a town that once was... I can't find any history on the church as to when it was built.
The image was shot right after I arrived at 7pm on Monday night. Winds were already picking up. I kept looking at my weather apps to see which direction the storm was going (trying to stay safe) and the app was telling me something completely different than what was actually happening. Eventually, this storm turned into a tornado about where the lightning is in this image (I'll post that image later) My plan here was to photograph this old church with the milky way behind it from the other side. That did not happen. I soon realized that if I did not get out of there I was gonna end up like one of the cows in the movie Twister. It's hard to describe properly but as I was trying to escape the wrath of this storm I soon realized I was surrounded with no where to go. Being out on the plains with no shelter I was pretty scared...I was in my car but that wont really protect you from a tornado. Just south of this church sit two old silos and I thought about getting in them but I would have had to leave my car and run about 100 yards with quarter sized hail coming down at incredible speeds... I weighed my options quickly and ended up finding a tree to park under to lessen the damage to the car from the hail. I sat there for about 30 min, called my wife to let her know where I was and what was happening in case I didn't make it. Finally the hail turned to rain, I waited a little longer for the storm to move further away and then I got out of there... it was one of the top 5 scariest times of my life...I felt helpless because mother nature doesn't care who you are and I really didn't have a good solid way of protecting myself when push came to shove...
This image was shot 2 hours before the storm fully developed, this was the fun part of the night that soon turned into a real life horror story. In another image you will see the storm headed right for the church and I am really wondering if it's still standing... If it is, I will be very amazed... So the next morning I visited another old church that is falling apart and while the structure is good the sides are gone and you can see right through it. I decided then that I was going to start taking images of myself standing next to these places because it seems like they are falling down faster and faster....
