Stary Cmentarz w Łodzi - the Old Cemetery in Łódź
With the growing number of textile plants in Lodz in the 19th century, accompanied by rapid growth of the city and the number of its inhabitants, the city authorities were forced to open a new cemetery in 1856. The old Christian necropolis around the wooden St. Joseph church between Ogrodowa, Zachodnia, Legionów and Gdańska Streets could no longer accommodate new graves. The site of the new cemetery was a large plot of land in the outskirts of the city, adjacent to the opposite side of Ogrodowa Street and extending to the West towards the Mania settlement. It consisted of three parts, each for a different Christian denomination: Catholic, Evangelical-Augsburg and Orthodox. The latter separated the east Catholic part from the west Evangelical section of the cemetery. Currently, the necropolis is one of the most frequented places in Lodz, not only for sentimental reasons but also due to its historical and artistic value. The Old Cemetery in Lodz, as it is popularly called by the inhabitants of the "City by the Boat" (Lodz is the Polish word for boat), often compared to the Powązki Cemetery in Warsaw, is a real treasure of sepulchral monuments.
Among hundreds of tombs and gravestones, particularly beautiful are those from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and from the first two decades of the 20th century, such as the excellently renovated grave of Zofia Biedermann or the tomb of the Grobman family or of Henryk Feder. Among other precious tombs, of particular interest are the tomb chapels of Juliusz Heinzl and Juliusz Kuntzer and the pyramide-shaped tomb of the Heiman-Jarecki family, heroes of the Polish-Soviet war, or the Neo-Byzantine chapel of the Gojrzewski family in the Orthodox part of the cemetery. A true masterpiece and the most popular monument of the Old Cemetery is the Karl Scheibler's Neo-Gothic chapel-mausoleum considered to be the most beautiful product of the Polish Neo-Gothic. It has been gradually renovated for a number of years now, mainly using funds raised by the Foundation for Rescuing Karl Scheibler's Chapel. On 1st November each year, the Old Cemetery Preservation Society raises funds for renovating the monuments of the necropolis.

Bombus (Bombo - Bumblebee)
I bombi sono caratterizzati da una livrea gialla e nera a bande, anche se ne esistono delle specie tutte nere o con delle bande arancioni, sono generalmente più grossi e pelosi delle comuni api ed hanno, generalmente, le bande di colore più larghe.
La principale caratteristica di questi imenotteri è senz'altro la soffice peluria che li ricopre e che li fa apparire piuttosto pelosi.
I bombi sono poco aggressivi; le regine e le operaie sono in grado però di pungere ed il loro pungiglione, non avendo seghettatura, permette loro di pungere anche più di una volta a differenza delle api comuni.
I bombi sono insetti sociali che vivono in piccole colonie, formate da pochi esemplari, che non sopravvivono generalmente all'inverno. Gli unici esemplari che sopravvivono all'inverno sono le femmine fecondate che dopo la morte della colonia, cercheranno un luogo riparato dove trascorrere i rigori della stagione invernale. In primavera la femmina fecondata si sveglierà dal letargo e cercherà subito dei fiori per rifocillarsi e cominciare a creare la nuova colonia. In genere si tratta di piccole cavità nel terreno o negli alberi come tane abbandonate, tronchi di alberi cavi, fessure tra muri di pietra, ecc… La femmina provvederà a costruire una piccola cella di cera dalla caratteristica forma ad anfora nella quale depositerà alcune uova e che riempirà di cibo. Queste prime uova danno origine a femmine sterili che si occuperanno, come operaie, della raccolta di cibo per la colonia e di aiutare la madre nella costruzione di nuove celle. A partire dalla metà dell'estate compaiono le prime femmine in grado di riprodursi, queste deporranno uova non fecondate che danno origine ai maschi. I maschi feconderanno le nuove femmine nate alla fine dell'estate e che andranno a sviluppare la nuova colonia l'anno successivo.
Questa sarà una femmina appena risvegliata dal letargo?

While in Boston, I visited the beautiful New England Aquarium which was full of jellyfish..they have the best jellyfish exhibit I have ever seen, and I have been to quite a few aquariums.. I tried various shots and angles, but as you know, its hard to get a great aquarium shot while shooting thru thick glass..I tried the "remote sb-600 flash angled down" technique" .. I tried it off the camera and on the camera, and I liked the on the camera effect the best..I then post processed this with photomatix, a single raw image tone mapped (pseudo-hdr) ..I liked the effect.. check the black and white version here: www.flickr.com/photos/joeyfoto/3175560238/

In remembrance of the fallen, wounded and those who served for their countries. Unable to get out today to pay my respects I captured this tightly framed shot on Armed Forces Day in the summer, the side of a Willys Jeep that saw action for the 101st Airborne 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment on D-Day in Normandy. Photographed in George Square, Glasgow and making a poignant composition of the medical aid cross. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
There is no test drive in life. No trial and error. Every decision about family, work, relationship, and even hobby has to be precise and no turning back. Yes life is tough.
The following is just fictitious example for photography hobbyist but it could be any other serious hobby.
You spent thousands of dollars in the photo gear. You put a lot of time in learning the technicalities of the craft such as Photoshop and Lightroom. You shoot in all the weekends, holidays and even weekdays. This got to be serious and no fun shot or snapshots. After 10, 15 and 20 years, you still cannot get even one single shot close to Ansel Adams while your photo club friends and hundreds of thousands of photographers you met on Internet have surpassed the Ansel standard. You have to admit you have no talent on this but what would you do?
May be move on to next hobby like photo equipment collecting?
I saw the empty and ghostly roller-coaster in PNE. I think it may be a test drive. Does life have test drive?

Taizō-in (退蔵院?) is the oldest sub-temple (tatchū (塔頭?)) of the Myōshin-ji Rinzai Zen Buddhist temple, situated in the northwest of Kyoto, Japan. It was founded by Zen priest Muinsoin in 1404. The original temple buildings were burned during the Ōnin War (1467-1477), and were later rebuilt.
Taizō-in is well known for its two gardens. The main garden, Motonobu-no-niwa, is a traditional Japanese dry landscape garden (karesansui), containing several angular rocks suggesting the cliffs of the island of Hōrai, with smaller stones suggesting a stream. The planting is mostly evergreen, including camellia, pine, and Japanese umbrella pine. It covers 50 tsubo (170 m²) and was designed to integrate a borrowing of scenery ("shakkei") of a view of Narabigaoka Hill in the distance. It is thought to be the final work of Muromachi painter Kanō Motonobu (狩野 元信), reproducing one of his paintings in three dimensions.
A new pond garden, or yoko-en, was designed by Kinsaku Nakane in 1963-1966. The new garden is large enough for visitors to walk in, and contains azaleas and a stream that cascades along the main axis, directly toward the main viewing position. The stream flows around rocks, gradually widening until it empties into a pool in front of the viewer. (Wikipedia)

麒麟潭，原名大水窟（或寫做大水崛）、蓮花池，位於台灣南投縣鹿谷鄉永隆村的一座面積十三公頃、三面環山的人工湖泊。同治年間，邱、董二姓泉州人利用凍頂山和麒麟山之勢，築壩蓄水供農田灌溉。1974年，時任行政院長的蔣經國下鄉訪視，將該潭改名為「麒麟潭」
鹿谷麒麟藏美景，經國先生最愛
麒麟潭原名為大水窟，位於凍頂和麒麟兩座山之間，為一處人工湖泊，因蔣故總統經國先生在民國63年時，曾下訪探視此地，覺得此地環境優美，狀似麒麟，因此而取名”麒麟潭”，也是經國先生生前很喜歡來的放鬆地方，麒麟潭旁的一座小廟，還有經國先生來麒麟潭聊天、翹腳的老照片喔!
細說麒麟潭歷史
大約一百餘年前永隆居民利用三面環山之地勢，築堤蓄水，成為面積13公頃的水埤，潭水為泉水，水量很豐沛，終年不會枯竭。原本是廣興、鹿谷農田灌溉水源，因近年來鄉民生活水準提高，生活方式起了極大的改變，又因潭水景色幽美，逐漸成為旅遊觀光景點。
麒麟潭的四周為丘陵地，除了一些住家之外，就是壯闊的茶田伴隨其中，設有環湖步道，來這裡可以很愜意的欣賞麒麟潭的迷人景致，而且白天、晚上的感覺非常不一樣，白天的麒麟潭就像世外桃源般的美麗，湖面呈現綠油油的丘陵倒影，也有藍天白雲倒印其中，湖面的水清澈透亮，彷彿自己就好像走在畫裡面般如此的不真實，令人流連忘返。
晚上的麒麟潭就好像神秘的女子般，夢幻卻又不失高雅，月亮、星星伴隨著湖面，不似白天的活潑，晚上有著優美而寧靜的美感，喜歡露營的朋友可以來麒麟潭露營，絕對會讓您愛上這裡。
清晨與晚上的麒麟潭總會飄著一層薄霧，虛無飄渺的感覺讓人感受到麒麟潭的迷人風味，往麒麟山上走，可以俯瞰整個麒麟潭風景，雖然面積不大，但景緻卻是不輸一些知名的景點，可說是南投鹿谷的秘密花園，雖然是觀光景點，但鮮少人會特別繞過來麒麟潭這邊，所以這裡沒有一般觀光景點的吵雜，反而有另一種觀賞美景的寧靜悠閒。
倪贊元《雲林縣採訪冊》：「大水窟：亦名蓮花池，池中多產蓮花。在崠頂山之麓、鳳凰山之前，距縣四十五里。池周廣二、三里，四面屏鬟列翠，泉源甚盛，紅白蓮花浮擎水面，青筩綠蓋，布滿池中。傳聞昔時曾開金墘白蓮，鮮妍異常，香韻尤絕。池中魚族甚繁，採蓮取魚，必駕竹筏。每當春、夏良辰，崠峰倒影，輒見鴛鴦浮游巖際。風過香聞數里，為縣東名勝。」

Graffity in France in Longwy / Rèhon
Artist: Grafodeco = Scaf Oner
Hinter Grafodeco steckt der französische Straßenkünstler Pierrot, auch bekannt als Scaf oder Scaf Oner. Er ist ein talentierter und kreativer Graffiti-Künstler, der sich auf beeindruckende 3D-Illusionen und interaktive Wandgemälde spezialisiert hat.
Diese gigantische Wand der Stadt Rehon ist mehr als 400 Meter lang und in der Fotografie nicht global zu sehen.
Pierre Bertolotti alias Scaf Er ist ein französischer Graffiti-Künstler. Er schafft auch gerne Klassiker (wie Skelette, Spinnen und Schlangen), um sein Repertoire zu diversifizieren. Er malt seine Tiere sehr oft in Anamorphose, um den Realismus seiner Babys zu steigern. Seine Werke sind ungewöhnlich, fantastisch und manchmal lustig. Die Form der Wände, die gewählten Winkel, die Perspektiven, die Schatten und die Reflexionen verwandeln den gesamten städtischen Raum in eine Bewegungseinstellung.
Es hat die Besonderheit, zwei verschiedene künstlerische Unterschriften zu haben: Grafodeco, wenn es um Auftragsarbeiten geht, und Scaf, wenn es um Straßenkunst geht.
Baldrian Desnoyers alias Valer ist ein Teil von Crew Mill. Er ist ein zeitgenössischer urbaner Künstler, der 1982 geboren wurde.
Dieses 450 m lange Fresko widmet sich der Geschichte der Stadt, einschließlich ihrer Stahlvergangenheit (Fotos Nov 2021).

Large tanager with a hefty bill. Adult males are completely red; immature males are dull yellow-olive with blotchy patches of red. Females are variable in colour, ranging from pale dull yellow to brighter orange. Can be confused with female Scarlet Tanager; Summer has a longer, paler bill and less contrast between wing and body colour. Also compare with dustier-looking, stouter-billed Hepatic Tanager. Breeds in mature forests, favouring mixed deciduous and pine in the southeastern U.S. and riparian corridors in the western U.S. and northern Mexico. Extensive winter range from Mexico to Bolivia, where it can be found in any wooded area. Often gives a short, descending rattle “pit-a-tuck.”
