The Importance of Farmland in Cornwall

More than 70% of Cornwall’s land is dedicated to agriculture, making it a vital part of the region’s economy and ecosystem. The fertile soil and favorable climate allow for the cultivation of a wide variety of crops, including fruits, vegetables, and cereals. Additionally, Cornwall is known for its dairy farming, producing high-quality milk and cheese.

The abundance of farmland in Cornwall not only provides us with nutritious food but also contributes to the preservation of the region’s natural resources. Sustainable farming practices, such as organic farming and agroforestry, can help enhance soil quality, reduce pollution, and support wildlife habitats. By working collaboratively with farmers, we can ensure that nature thrives alongside agricultural activities.

Exploring Cornwall’s Agricultural Landscape

Cornwall is home to expansive farmlands, with picturesque countryside vistas that attract visitors from around the world. The largest county in the South West, Devon, has around 72.4 percent of its land dedicated to commercial farm holdings, with a majority of it consisting of grasslands. This creates a lush and vibrant landscape that adds to Cornwall’s allure as a tourism hotspot.

This work is dedicated to women and their uphill battles of juggling work and family life. I address the importance of accepting motherhood for our children, hoping that our society will change and allow women more time with their children after birth. Starting with breastfeeding, which is on a 3-hour basis, and creates a special lifetime bond between mother and child. Promoting a strong educational and loving environment for children to grow in. Mothers are the family base, very much in tune with their children, and are always working for the best for their children. This takes time, and the time should be available, especially if we want peace, diversity, and acceptance in our world.

Mothers are often the family base, tuned in, and working to achieve the best for their children. This endeavor demands time which is too often is in short supply due to the uphill battle of juggling work and family life.

My late husband’s deep love and respect for his mother grew into love, respect, belief in, and support, for myself and our four daughters. His belief in us empowered our lives as he valued our dreams and endeavors. I wish that all men and partners had this positive and supportive attitude, as it makes life easier for the whole family.

A mother’s role is important in their children's lives. In order to bring up healthy and well-balanced children, sufficient time is required to be given to the children, time should be made available at birth and through an extended time. Child development psychologists state that the first 3-5 years of a child's life are the most important. Sadly, many employers do not see things that way.

In order to provide mothers with time to nurture their family, with the understanding that it is in the best interest of young children, the government needs to change the concept of Stay-At-Home-Mothers, making it acceptable for mothers to look after their children full-time with the help of family benefits and tax credits.

Thoughtful employers can make a difference in the possibilities for mothers. Flexible work schedules, providing more time for maternity leave is an example seen throughout Europe. Employers could make a leave of absence possible, providing a young mother with time for her children. Women should without exception be paid equally and provided with the same benefits as men who are doing the same work. If women have been invaluable workers, why treat them with anything other than respect and understanding?

Something is very wrong here, and this needs to change. Often the $ £ is more important than human life today. If we all work together, helping one another, we can get closer to equality. I know that total equality does not work, but equality within reason, most certainly does. Providing a strong educational and loving environment for children to grow up in takes tremendous effort and time. If we value peace, diversity and acceptance, we should work together to provide this time.

I often choose to use bright and strong colours for my work to make my message stronger and to elaborate on my concern for what is happening in today’s world. I always try to give a positive message, believing that I have a better chance of a positive reaction.

The Meteora is a rock formation in the northwestern Greece, hosting one of the most prominent complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, viewed locally as second in importance only to Mount Athos. Twenty-four monasteries were established atop the giant natural pillars and hill-like rounded boulders that dominate the local area, mainly from the second half of the 14th century under the local rule of Simeon Uroš. Six of these are still active and open to visitors. This picture shows the monasteries of Rousánou (front) and Agios Stéphanos (back) in the evening light.

SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️

16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)

16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)

1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)

7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)

1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)

Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!

So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

Lieu : Rajasthan, Inde

Stepwells in Rajasthan, India, boasts a rich history dating back over a thousand years. Initially built to harvest rainwater and provide access to groundwater, they evolved into architectural marvels and communal spaces.

Constructed by digging into the earth, these structures were adorned with intricate carvings, serving as both utilitarian and aesthetic symbols. Stepwells facilitated water storage in arid regions, crucial for agriculture, drinking, and rituals. They also served as meeting points, offering respite from the scorching desert heat.

Over time, step-wells declined with modernization, but their cultural significance endures, inspiring art, literature, and conservation efforts. Today, they stand as poignant reminders of India’s ingenuity in water management and architectural prowess ...

“The soil under the grass is dreaming of a young forest, and under the pavement the soil is dreaming of grass.”

~ Wendell Berry

Grasses have various roles to play in the ecosystem, from preserving forests to reclaiming degraded land. They prevent soil erosion and landslides and protect the alluvial topsoil. Besides grasses slow down the runoff during heavy rains and floods which helps the earth to absorb water and improve groundwater table and create the conditions for seeds to germinate and shrubs/trees to grow. For rejuvenation of land all we have to do is let grass grow, the rest would be taken over by nature. Apart from that the importance of grasses lies in their role as an important food source. Up to 70 percent of the world's agricultural land is given to crop grasses, and more than 50 percent of the world's calories come from grasses, particularly the cereals.

Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, or Pura Bratan, is a major Shivaite and water temple on Bali, Indonesia. The temple complex is located on the shores of Lake Bratan in the mountains near Bedugul. Water temples serve the entire region in the outflow area; downstream there are many smaller water temples that are specific to each irrigation association.

Built in 1633, this temple is used for offerings ceremony to the Balinese water, lake and river goddess Dewi Danu, due to the importance of Lake Bratan as a main source of irrigation in central Bali. The 11 stories of pelinggih meru dedicated for Shiva and his consort Parvathi. Buddha statue also present inside this temple.

Lake Bratan is known as the Lake of Holy Mountain due to the fertility of this area. Located 1200 m above sea level, it has a cold tropical climate. (wikipedia)

Acres of corn demand a farmer's center of attention even as an empty barn and silo sit waiting for a call that will never come. I have found that explaining to young people about how important certain things were in my world is a losing battle.

Inle Lake lies at an elevation of 884 m (2,900 ft.) 425 km (264 mi.) north of Yangon in Shan State, Myanmar. Covering an area of some 116 sq. km (44.8 sq. mi.), its depth ranges from 1.5 m (4.9 ft.) during the dry season (November to April) to 3.7 m (12 ft.) during the rainy season (May to October). The lake was included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2015. In 2018, it was designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.

The Intha people are the principal ethnic group at Inle Lake. Intha fishermen stand on the stern of their boats and row using their foot giving them a high vantage point to search for fish. Some use a conical trap as seen here to make a catch, while others cast nets.

Castro Marim had for centuries great importance due to its strategic location as it commands the view over the estuary of the river Guadiana which separates the Algarve from Spain. This area been occupied since ancient times, successively inhabited by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors, up to the Christian Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula.

According to archaeological excavations the oldest defensive wall dates from the 8th century AC, confirming the strategic importance of this place as a door for commercial activity with the Mediterranean Sea.

In 1242 the Castle is reconquered to Portuguese territory by the master of the Religious Order of Santiago, and was from that on an important strategic and defensive fortress.

During the War of the Restoration of the Portuguese Independence from Spain, after 1640, the defenses of Castro Marim were adapted for the use of artillery and was also built the fortresses of Saint Sebastião and of Saint António.

After the big earthquake of 1755, the king José the 1st ordered the Castle to be restored.

Nowadays the Castro Marim Castle is classified as a National Monument, and several conservation works have been done to preserve its rich history along the years. In order to preserve the rich heritage and history of the area, was also created an Archaeological Museum.

We Must Fight For Our Children:

This work is done in collaboration with my cousin, Dr. Carole Ulanowsky, she is a mother of four and grandmother of six, an educator and researcher and she added the following comments to my work,

"Pregnancy Is a Time to Bond With One's Child From the Very Beginning":

(Please also understand that this is written for the English population not the American, but is also important to read and think about)!

On a less happy note re the babies… many new Mums and Dads are forced back into the workplace sooner than they would wish and sooner than is beneficial for their babies Three main reasons:

1. Financial eg high cost of housing/mortgages etc - Govt will provide money for ‘Childcare’ - but only if provided by ‘strangers’ not by a parent/grand parent

2. Society’s perception of women/men losing social and personal status if they relinquish their occupational (paid) role - if only for the first 2 critical years of their baby’s life …

3. Employees anxious they may lose professional status/opportunity if they take time out of the workplace.

Plants are autotrophs or obtain all nutrients they need from the environment around them. Rainwater plays an important role in this function. Rainwater is the most natural way for plants to obtain moisture.

Tap water often has added chemicals as it`s treated and recycled for human consumption. Rainwater has a higher level of oxygen.

Rainwater frees nutrients and minerals in the soil the plants need to survive. Rainfall has a unique, earthy smell. It is caused by the water from the rain, along with certain compounds like ozone, geosmin and plant oils.

The importance of beavers can not be under estimated. they change landscapes create habitat . and are a key stone spieces, same as wolves. remove either of these spieces and the balance is very badly affected.

The Peacock Flower holds symbolic importance in some cultures, often associated with beauty, pride, and joy.

This plant is often celebrated for its spectacular flowers and its ability to bring a tropical touch to gardens and landscapes.

The Peacock Flower produces beautiful, showy flowers in shades of red, orange, yellow, or a combination of these, often resembling a peacock's tail in appearance.

The flowers are large, with long stamens that contribute to their dramatic look.

The plant itself can grow as a shrub or small tree, reaching heights of 3 to 5 feet (1 to 1.5 meters), though it can grow taller in ideal conditions.

The leaves are finely divided, giving the plant a feathery or fern-like texture.

Not the Carpenters or Earth, Wind & Fire but Great Britain's National Bird, the Robin. This gorgeous Robin wasn't half belting out a tune to rival, or even better, any chart topper at RSPB Old Moor the other day.

The Robin is one of the few birds in the UK that sing all year round. This is due to the importance of holding winter territories. Only for a short period in late summer while they are moulting and inconspicuous do they stop singing. Both sexes sing.

Autumn and spring songs are distinctly different. The autumn song starts after the moult, from late summer onwards. It is more subdued and melancholy in its tone, while the spring song is powerful, confident and upbeat.

The spring song can start as early as mid-December, reaching full force in spring. Its purpose is two-fold: to defend a territory and to attract a mate. Therefore, the spring song is far more powerful in males.

The importance of Fordwich was based on its role as the port for Canterbury. Its importance was further recognised when it became an arm of the Cinque Port of Sandwich. This heritage is remembered each year in a 'Ship Money' ceremony. The village has some wonderful historic buildings, many of them timber-framed

66192 (?) with 4 empty bogie hoppers in tow, makes its way past Tunstead, the largest limestone quarrying operation in the UK, extracting between five and six million tonnes of limestone per annum. Owned by Tarmac, it is the largest supplier of lime and lime-based products in the UK and as such is acknowledged to be of national strategic importance. The train is on its way to Dowlow, another quarrying operation south of Buxton, originating from Peak Forest.

During the Italian Renaissance, Venice gave birth to an artistic style known as the Venetian School (1450-1600 A.D) that placed importance reflected light and its impact on color. In contrast to the Florentine paintings from the same time period, which focused on linear form, Venetian paintings blended Byzantine and Gothic elements with subtle layering and blending techniques to apply color of a muted vibrancy to more closely mimic colors found in nature.

Color Vibrancy The richness in Venetian color reflected the wealth prominent in Venice during the Renaissance. The dark reds, brilliant blues and muted yellows used in the oil paintings of Venetian School artists such as Jacopo Bellini have both a deepness and transparency meant to reflect light and expose the shades of layered color. Often muted in tone, Venetian colors gradually softened throughout the Renaissance to replicate natural color rather than exaggerated hues.

Layering and Blending Unlike the Florentine masters who began masterpieces by focusing on the linear movement of a composition, the Venetian School artists would begin forming their work with shapes of color painted directly on the canvas. Shades of color were carefully layered and blended to create a subtle shift of hue and tone to define form in place of the severe lines notable in other style movements.

Shadows and Light, A careful consideration of light's impact on color is reflected in the work of the masters of the Venetian School period. Whereas other movements would mimic the actual color of a subject as a whole, Venetian colorists would incorporate the subtle shifts of hue caused by the reflected light on the subject with their unique layering and blending techniques. With the interplay of shadows and light across a subject, traditional Venetian color application suggests form without sharp edges, creating a difficult to achieve sense of depth and realism.

"And every day the world will drag you by the hand, yelling, “This is important! And this is important! And this is important! You need to worry about this! And this! And this!”

And each day it is up to you, to yank your hand back, put it on your heart and say, “No. This is what’s important.” "

Well, it's too late to start a story about what's important... (because a reliable connection to the internet, which I do not have, is somewhat important). I know what's important.... at least to me, family is important, friendship is important, kindness, patience, sharing, second chances ... ice cream in the freezer ..... a winning lottery ticket is becoming increasingly important..... I could go on... and on.... but I need to force myself to get out and run before I get ready for work ...because goals are important too.

And I think this is a window.... because if it is a door.... the first step out is a doozy! Happy Window Wednesday.

Here's to trying new things.... because .... it's important! ; )

Sunrise Fog & Flowers in the Roan Highlands

Mitchell County, Western North Carolina

Accessed via the Appalachian Trail from Carver's Gap, TN

Date taken: June 15, 2016

Roan Mountain is typically the pinnacle of my year. The Catawba Rhododendron bloom highlights what is likely the most spectacular thing I see and photograph annually. This year was no different. However, a combination of planned and unplanned circumstances had me really chasing my tail around, spending long periods on the highway followed by some poor decisions while in the field that left me exhausted (it's easy to underestimate the importance of keeping yourself fresh mentally and physically if you want to produce). The end result was only two to three days chasing the Catawba Rhododendron this year. Surprisingly, I actually dropped the mountain after this short period feeling really good about what I had seen and what I had captured. I knew that the conditions were difficult--as they always are at Roan--but, I really thought I had done what I needed to present some fantastic scenics from the annual bloom. Upon later inspection, most of my takes are a mess of wind blur and non-optimal lighting. Those that pass the quality inspection--like the one above--are pushing the camera hard with higher isos to stop the constant swaying action of the vegetation as consistent winds blanketed the exposed ridge.

All in all, it was a beautiful bloom on Grassy Ridge and another wonderful year of photography in the Roan Highlands. I would be lying if I didn't say that I'm a bit disappointed in myself for the lack of production and the shots that were missed. However, I'm not ever going to complain about spending some time in one of my favorite places!

The yellow tent in the clearing belonged to J Christian Smilanic (Dawnfire Photography) who I would later meet. Great dude and photographer out of the Asheville, NC area.

United Kingdom, Wales, Chepstow Castle, Summer 2023

Chepstow Castle (Welsh: Castell Cas-gwent) at Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales, is the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain. Located above cliffs on the River Wye, construction began in 1067. In the 12th century the castle was used in the conquest of Gwent, the first independent Welsh kingdom to be conquered by the Normans. However, by the 16th century its military importance had waned and by the 1700s it had fallen into decay. With the later growth of tourism, the castle became a popular visitor destination.

The Tombs of the Kings is a large necropolis lying about two kilometres north of Paphos harbour in Cyprus. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The underground tombs, many of which date back to the 4th century BC, are carved out of solid rock, and are thought to have been the burial sites of Paphitic aristocrats and high officials up to the third century AD (the name comes from the magnificence of the tombs; no kings were in fact buried here). Some of the tombs feature Doric columns and frescoed walls. Archaeological excavations are still being carried out at the site. The tombs are cut into the native rock, and at times imitated the houses of the living.

Although the tombs have been known and casually explored for centuries, they were first subjected to systematic excavation in the later 1970s and the 1980s under the direction of Dr Sophocles Hadjisavvas, former Director of Antiquities of the Republic of Cyprus.

Dr Hadjisavvas is preparing the finds for publication with assistance from the Australian archaeological mission to Paphos.

Part of the importance of the tombs lies in the Paphian habit of including Rhodian amphorae among the offerings in a burial. Through the manufacturing stamps placed on the handles of these amphorae, it is possible to give them a date and, through them, the other material from the same burial.

Thus, it is hoped to develop a more secure chronology for archaeological material in the Eastern Mediterranean of the Hellenistic and early Roman periods.

The church of San Pedro de la Nave is one of the jewels, probably the most important of all, due to its good architectural and sculptural conservation, of the entire panorama of Iberian Visigothic architecture.

Brief history of an exemplary transfer. As is known, this ancient temple of San Pedro de la Nave from the 7th century was located in a small village of the same name in the Zamora region of Tierra del Pan.

This quiet place was threatened by the Ricobayo Reservoir that was going to be built in the course of the Esla river -shortly before its mouth in the Duero- as a hydroelectric complex back in 1929. That this outstanding early medieval monument be saved from being flooded for the waters of said reservoir was fundamentally due to the zeal and prestige of Manual Gómez Moreno.

The distinguished professor, historian and archaeologist had found this building by chance in 1906 as the parish church of the small town of San Pedro de la Nave. He immediately recognized the importance of the work and dated it, from the typeface of the inscriptions, to the period of the Hispano-Visigothic monarchy.

Only six years later, the church of San Pedro de la Nave was declared a national historical-artistic monument.

The Castle of Eger gained its historical importance and became famous in 1552, when Captain István Dobó together with a small number of Hungarian defenders repelled the siege of the giant Turkish army. Nowadays the Castle is one of the main attractions of Eger, offering several exhibitions and programs for the interested visitors (virtual tour). But what do we know about the past of the walls we can see today? Here is their history in a nutshell.

In the 11th century, the first king of Hungary, Saint István established the first ten bishoprics of the country and made Eger a seat of one. A cathedral was built on the hill of the present castle, and the town was located around it. Although the cathedral has been ruined, we can see its remainings in the castle.

The castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century, after the Mongolo-Tartarian attacks, which destroyed the former Felsőtárkány fortress of the bishop. The Castle of Eger used to be a so-called knight castle with high but thin walls. Therefore, with the appearance of artillery weapons, it became obsolete. As a solution, in the 16th century, they started to modernise it according to the plans of Alessandro Vedani.

In 1548, great strategist István Dobó was assigned captain. Preparing for a possible Turkish attack, he continued to strengthen the castle and enlarged the number of military equipment.

The siege of the Turks began in September 1552. The Ottoman Army of Suleiman the Magnificent seemed to be unstoppable before. It was divided in three parts, arriving from three different directions, each taking the attacked castles one after the other. These three parts of the army united at Eger, altogether counting about 60 000 soldiers. On the other hand, the number of Hungarian defenders was only 2000. (We can even read their names in the museum of the castle.) Therefore, it is almost unbelievable that they could last for 38 days, and finally, repulse the Turkish enemy, who by that time was suffering from diseases and the cold autumn weather. According to a legend, there were rumours in the Turkish Army about Hungarians drinking the blood of bulls which gave them superhuman power. This was in fact, the famous red wine of Eger, called bikavér (bull’s blood). The women of Eger played an important role in the defence, as they were also fighting heroically. The excellent painter Bertalan Székely commemorated them with his work entitled Egri nők (Women of Eger).

Repelling the siege of the thirty times larger army is considered as one of the most important victories in Hungary. Its significance was that the Ottoman Army and its campaign was stopped at Eger and could not reach the almost unfortified northern regions and their valuable mines.

Already a few months after the triumph, poet Sebestyén Lantos Tinódi wrote a detailed song (450 stanzas!) about the siege. Thanks to him, the persistence of the warriors of Eger seminated all over Europe.

Jean Nouvel's design of the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) was inspired by the Desert Rose Crystal, typically found in the Qatari deserts. As an architect Jean Nouvel places importance on designing a building in harmony with its surroundings

Image number 20 (# 6 here on Flickr) of a series of 29 fine art photos on modern architecture in Qatar commissioned by Qatar Tourism, taken earlier in 2022. And the 1st out of this sub-series of 7 images from the NMoQ. Check out my portfolio on my revamped website bwvision.com/architecture-gallery/ for the entire The Age of Modern Architecture in Qatar series up till now (26 photos already).

This series of 29 photographs have been exhibited in the M7 museum in Doha, Qatar from November 8th 2022 to January 23, 2023. The series of 29 reveals a strong connection between the architect’s design and its environmental and cultural context. I’ve tried to celebrate the architect’s design through my interpretation of it in relation to its environment. The tonal composition has been carefully designed to give visual weight to the architectural structures and pronounce their forms, while the spatial composition (object and space selection and arrangements) enhances the visual energy of the structures as they are juxtaposed to the serenity of the (back)grounds. A serenity that is inspired by the characteristics of a desert area. All 29 photos have been processed using the B&W Artisan Pro panel to speed up the process and increase accuracy.

At the moment I'm working on 24 new photos from Qatar that will form a new series.

Family life is full of major and minor crises -- the ups and downs of health, success and failure in career, marriage, and divorce -- and all kinds of characters. It is tied to places and events and histories. With all of these felt details, life etches itself into memory and personality. It's difficult to imagine anything more nourishing to the soul. -

Thomas Moore

Family quarrels have a total bitterness unmatched by others. Yet it sometimes happens that they also have a kind of tang, a pleasantness beneath the unpleasantness, based on the tacit understanding that this is not for keeps; that any limb you climb out on will still be there later for you to climb back. -

Mignon McLaughlin

This is a repost of a 365 day self portrait challenge in which I combine a self portrait and an abstract painting I did of my family. The painting was done in a class in which I was asked to paint a self portrait, in those days I was rather shy so asked if I could do myself with my family and luckily for me my request was accepted.

By now you will all know the importance I put upon family it is the basis for a good life. A strong and close-knit family lasts a lifetime. I brought up my children to know that they can always rely on us parents, but they also had to learn the importance upon being able to rely upon one another as well, happily they learned this lesson successfully and they all apply it today and I am sure that they always will.

The importance of family is a given and yet, here in the USA parents of 545 children separated at the border cannot be found! This is a crime! I am a mother of 5 and a grandmother of 9 and I simply cannot fathom how this is possible in this country? We CAN and MUST fix this and do better from now on!!!

The parents of 545 children separated at the border still haven’t been found. The pandemic isn’t helping.
