During the month of January and February, Mary Edouard and I implemented the Pre-
Texts approach to teach a Social Studies unit on the American Revolution.
Over the course of 10 sessions, students learned about the American Revolution
through writing activities, acting, collage making, Acrostic poem writing and other fun
activities. We used the chapter book, Magic Tree House American Revolution by Mary
Pope Osborne and Natalie Pope Boyce to supplement the BPS Social Studies
curriculum. During each session, we implemented Close Reading strategies by
reading aloud text to help students comprehend the text.

Set of carved wooden implements for the Chinese tea ceremony made with a lotus theme. Bought at the small jade market near the computer mall at Pateh in Taipei. I had originally thought that the whole set cost S$20; each item cost S$20 by itself.
There is a spoon in the shape of a lotus fruit; a pick shaped like a lotus root; as well as a scoop and a funnel that look like lotus leaves. These are for the tourist trade - the Taiwanese wouldn't bother with such artsy stuff for daily use.
I think the lotus root is for cleaning the spout of the teapot; the lotus fruit for loosening tea leaves; the bowl of leaves is really a sieve for directing the tea into the teapot, and the single leaf for pouring the tea from container into the pot.
Implementation of the VA MISSION Act, which authorizes the study needed for a Veterans Community-Based Outpatient Clinic in the Marianas, was the purpose of a joint hearing of the House and Senate Veterans Affairs Committees. I was there along with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX). The Ford Case Competition (FCC), student-organized and run by the Ford Case Collective, is a 10-day consulting project in which teams of graduate public policy students compete against one another. Through the competition, students create implementable solutions to real-world policy problems facing a local government or nonprofit organization in Michigan. This year, the program’s first, sought to address ongoing parking concerns in the City of East Lansing, MI. On Friday, November 21, 2014, the final three teams presented their proposals to city administrators and a panel of Ford School faculty experts at the Joan and Sanford Weill Hall.

Preschool students discuss reading materials while enjoying their choice of seating during reading time.
How often is something exactly what it purports to be? Not an easy question to answer, but Glenwood Community School District has nailed it by embracing, embedding, and implementing Specially Designed Instruction into their preschool curriculum. Students are receiving exactly what the name implies, Specially Designed Instruction (SDI), aimed at meeting the educational needs of each individual student.
Some characteristics of Preschool SDI instruction include intentionality, abundant visuals, the amount of instruction, peer mediated interventions, and peer prompting. Successful SDI requires a collaborative, team approach for problem solving. A host of educational staff get together at least once a month, to discuss student progress based on the data recorded daily by the preschool teacher. They look to see if a goal is being worked on or if an instructional change is needed.
All five preschool teachers and classrooms in the district are on board with integration and delivery of SDI within the school day. All are part of a usability grant in various stages of execution (years one through four). Using specific criteria, early childhood consultants at Area Education Agencies (AEAs) recommended the best sites for grant funds to support the SDI work and provide professional development based on teacher feedback.

Abandoned farm implements dating back to over a century. Currango Station was abandoned as a pastoral lease when the Snowy Mountains Scheme built the Tantangara Dam over the Murrumbidgee River and the Currango Plains were flooded as a result.
The grass looks whitish due to the overnight frost. Currango is situated above the snowline and is snowed in during winter.

Schematic representation of the statistical and computational steps implemented in LEfSe. Input data consist of a collection of m samples (columns) each made up of n numerical features (rows, typically normalized per-sample, red representing high values and green low). These samples are labeled with a class (taking two or more possible values) that represents the main biological comparison under investigation; they may also have one or more subclass labels reflecting within-class groupings. (a) Step 1 analyzes all features, testing whether values in different classes are differentially distributed. (b) Features violating the null hypothesis are further analyzed in step 2, which tests whether all pairwise comparisons between subclasses in different classes significantly agree with the class level trend. (c) The resulting subset of vectors is used to build a LDA model from which the relative difference among classes is used to rank the features. The final output thus consists of a list of features that are discriminative with respect to the classes, consistent with the subclass grouping within classes, and ranked according to the effect size with which they differentiate classes.
