“Transport Decarbonisation: Driving Implementation” project members meeting at the ITF in Paris, France, to help identify ways to cut CO₂ emissions in three hard-to-decarbonise areas of transport: aviation, shipping and heavy-duty road freight. Their successful transition to a low- and ultimately zero-carbon operation is vital to achieving the international community’s climate goals.
We are very pleased to report the successful implementation of a running water project for Drokri (Herijiao) Community (Ninxiu (Nyin phyug) Township Town, Zeku (Rtse khog) County Town, Huangnan (Rma lho) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province).
A contribution of 129,800RMB from the Rotary Club of Beijing and 15,065RMB from the Rotary Club of Muenchen Blutenburg, plus a local contribution of 86,280RMB, ensured clean water to 240 Tibetan residents (37 households).
Before the project, Drokri Community’s biggest problem was a lack of water. Locals had to travel 5 to 9 kilometers (6 to 7 hours) to water livestock and fetch drinking water. Fetching water was culturally assigned to women who carried 25 kg of water in plastic containers on a daily basis. Donkeys, motorcycles, old tires, and tractors were also used to haul water. Due to lack of adequate water, villagers rarely washed clothes and showered. Consequently, locals were vulnerable to illnesses caused by poor personal hygiene.
This project brought water to both local people and livestock and has solved environmental degradation problems in the community. Livestock were driven once every two days to the distant water source. Much grass was damaged and could not feed the livestock that lived on it. This resulted in villagers needing to buy grass to feed livestock, which reduced their annual income. Now, with multiple water taps in the community, livestock no longer travel far across grassland to a single water source.
Furthermore, conflict was common between neighbor families and communities due to sharing the water source between households. Locals easily became involved in serious fighting. However, this issue no longer exists as multiple water taps are available adjacent to local households.
During project implementation, the local water bureau provided support and facilitated challenges of project designs. Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Beijing, especially Regula Hwangma and Robert Xing, also contributed helpful insights in project design. Local community contributed both labor and cash for trench digging and engaged the project throughout implementation. Many local men also learned basic water maintenance skills such as connecting pipes and repair.

The UNDP-supported Climate Change Adaptation Project (2014-2019) is funded by the GEF- Least Developed Countries Fund.
Under the project, with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, UNDP has implemented more than 100 livelihoods initiatives, including building greenhouses; training farmers how to process and store food; and protecting 800 hectares of land from flooding.
Further UNDP projects are helping people adapt and finding jobs in the face of climate change, bringing clean power to rural areas, preparing for natural disasters, establishing and protecting national parks, and conserving biodiversity for future generations.

The Social Mobilization Implementing Partners Forum, supported by Government of Sierra Leone, NERC, and UN, brought partners together to recognize social mobilization achievements in the Ebola response and to agree on the way forward which was held at the Country Lodge in Freetown, 30th January, 2015.
The forum focused on the next phase of the Ebola response in the country.
Abandoned farm implements dating back to over a century. Currango Station was abandoned as a pastoral lease when the Snowy Mountains Scheme built the Tantangara Dam over the Murrumbidgee River and the Currango Plains were flooded as a result.
The grass looks whitish due to the overnight frost. Currango is situated above the snowline and is snowed in during winter.

We have implemented a flocking behaviour for the Birds which the user can see in the second univers.
We used the flocking system Boids developped by Craig Reynolds in 1986. We have studied some others implementations like the one from Daniel Schiffman on #Processing or the one from Robert Hodgins on #Cinder, then we try to create our own version using C#.
We also add others behaviors like a focus behavior and obstacle avoidance. Each agent can only focus on a limited number of neighbors. If the agent had reach its max of neighbors he ignores others agents which could enter in its field of view

Morelia, Michoacán, 11 de enero.- El delegado del Consejo Nacional de Fomento Educativo (Conafe) en esta entidad, Alfredo Martínez Corona, señaló que “abatir el rezago educativo en la entidad es el principal propósito para el 2018 en Michoacán”.
Explicó que también se consolidará una cobertura de educación comunitaria del 100 por ciento en todo el estado, donde regresaron a clases sin incidentes 15 mil 183 alumnas y alumnos de educación básica comunitaria y más de 20 mil menores de 3 años se reintegraron con sus madres, padres y tutores a los cursos de educación inicial.
“Tenemos el firme propósito de ampliar la cobertura en comunidades donde hay demanda y no dejar a ningún infante sin la oportunidad de acceder a los servicios educativos que ofrece el Consejo”, subrayó el funcionario.
En esta tarea, agregó, es fundamental la participación de mil 667 jóvenes Líderes para la Educación Comunitaria (LEC) por lo que “estamos comprometidos a darles más apoyos y seguridad, así como dar las garantías y equipo que nos permitan baja la deserción de esos LEC a menos del 10%, y buscar erradicar el abandono”.
Michoacán, dijo Martínez Corona, trabaja con áreas educativas, implementación del modelo educativo de Aprendizaje Basado en la Colaboración y el Diálogo ABCD, “este año vamos a consolidar esa estrategia y garantizar que todas las figuras educativas y alumnos esté integrados a este modelo, corroborar en campo que los LEC están trabajando adecuadamente con el modelo ABCD, por lo que se realizaran visitas para corroborarlo”.
Sobre la implementación del nuevo modelo educativo de la Secretaría de Educación Pública a partir del ciclo escolar 2018-2019, el delegado del Consejo aseguró que “en el Conafe estamos listos para implementar el nuevo modelo de la SEP”.

The largest part of the 4U implements low-frequency radio operations.
This is, operation on frequencies below 500 KHz, the frequencies used almost exclusively by ship radios before and during World War II.
For this purpose the 4U includes two transmitters: a 200-watt main transmitter and a 50- watt emergency transmitter.
Both can transmit on the frequencies between 400 KHz and 500 KHz that are allocated for ship radio communications. Complementing them is a TRF receiver that can receive signals on all frequencies between 16 and 600 KHz.
High-frequency communications ("short wave") are supported by the 4U with a 200-watt transmitter and a superhet receiver that can operate on frequencies up to about 22MHz.
Of course, both the low-frequency and the high-frequency units implement only telegraph communication since voice communication was almost unheard of when the shipd were new.
The 4U also includes an Auto-Alarm (a device that can detect distress signals and raise an alert when the Radio Officer is off-duty) and even a classical crystal set, with its "cat's whisker." Internal motor-generators convert the ship's 110 volt DC power and battery power to the high voltage needed by the transmitters' tubes - there were no transistors in 1945!
This original radio equipment has been maintained and serviced, is fully operational and has passed the mandatory annual Federal Communications Commission and Coast Guard inspections. The current license still specifies the ship's original call-sign: KECW, the same call-sign assigned to the ship during its service in the WWII, Korea and Vietnam conflicts.
Associated with the 4U Radio Unit is the ship's radio direction finder (RDF), located in the Chart Room. The RDF assists navigation by enabling the ship's officers to determine the direction of remote radio stations.
Set of carved wooden implements for the Chinese tea ceremony made with a lotus theme. Bought at the small jade market near the computer mall at Pateh in Taipei. I had originally thought that the whole set cost S$20; each item cost S$20 by itself.
There is a spoon in the shape of a lotus fruit; a pick shaped like a lotus root; as well as a scoop and a funnel that look like lotus leaves. These are for the tourist trade - the Taiwanese wouldn't bother with such artsy stuff for daily use.
I think the lotus root is for cleaning the spout of the teapot; the lotus fruit for loosening tea leaves; the bowl of leaves is really a sieve for directing the tea into the teapot, and the single leaf for pouring the tea from container into the pot.
