Implementing an Open-Source Research Data Warehouse in Canada

Canadian Hospitals are challenged to advance overall patient care quality with reduced, inflation and populated adjusted funding levels. Unmasking healthcare information from patient records may help address this challenge.

Evolving from an in-class student project, a prototype Research Data Warehouse (RDW) was developed at a Canadian pediatric health and research center to help researchers benefit from timely and meaningful queries on relevant data. Open-source, DW healthcare-targeted, bundled software - Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside (i2b2) - was utilized. Developed for, and widely used by, US healthcare providers, Canada has little experience with i2b2.

The RDW was populated with in-patient Epic Clarity health data, and complimentary ambulatory care data. Queries can be directed at either or both data sources. While Canadian healthcare is under provincial jurisdiction, ambulatory data is reported at a national level; as such, an opportunity exists to share data beyond provincial borders.

A strong, multi-disciplinary, cohesive project team operating within a supportive environment are crucial elements in a successful RDW implementation. Operational and usability details can be appropriately resolved with cross-function organizational cooperation and goodwill.

Federating data sources and natural language processing semi-structured patient data are feasible next steps.

UNICEF, in partnership with SOPHPA, has implemented a life-saving water project by providing water points on the doorsteps of huts in the Daniyle IDP camp, Somalia. This project has been a source of relief for families, as access to clean water is crucial for their survival. This initiative is an essential resource to improve the lives of those affected by drought and conflict. Through its humanitarian efforts, UNICEF is helping to ensure that basic needs, such as clean water, are met for the most vulnerable populations.

280 families live in Daniyle IDP Camp, which was set up just four months ago to accommodate those fleeing from different parts of the region due to the drought. A leader has been selected from the IDPS to oversee the camp and help people settle in, providing cooking materials and other support as new families continue to arrive. The distribution of food is managed by a nearby site, and a mobile team provides healthcare services to the community. Job opportunities are scarce, with washing clothes being the main source of income. The local partner, SOPHPA, is responsible for WASH activities and has installed three water points and distributed hygiene kits to newcomers. SOPHPA is supported by UNICEF, but there are no schools in the area. The challenges faced by this community reflect the larger issues of displacement, limited resources, and lack of infrastructure faced by many families in the region.

The uniqueness of Simple Innovation and scientific activities and achievements ofDr. Panda can not be assessed without visiting his laboratory which is a living wonder in the realm of science.

From a small cake cutter to mechanical scissor, from a play pump to rickshaw operated food grain spreader and from a village refrigerator to a multi-purpose machine, thousands of such inventions and innovations are proof of Dr. Panda's brilliance.

From a tube well operated washing machine to weight sensitive food grain separator, from a password protected wardrobe to automatic screen, from a Dual face fan to electricity producing fan are example of few thousands of innovations and inventions of Mihir Kumar Panda.

Dr.Mihir Kumar Panda though bestowed to a popular name as Einstein of Odisha is obliviously treated as Thomas Alva Edison of India.

Dr. Panda's Scientific Endeavour and research is no doubt praise worthy. One cannot but believe his dedicated effort in simple innovation laboratory.

Social service, innovation/ inventions, writing, free technology to students for preparation of science exhibition projects, free technology to common men for their sustainability, preparation of big natural bonsai, technology for entrepreneurs and industrialists for innovative item are few works of Mihir Kumar Panda after his Government service.

. To overcome the difficulties of science and math, explanation in classes, innovator Panda has created few thousands of educational, societal and scientific innovations which helps teachers and students of the country and abroad.

Dr. Panda believes that though inventions/innovation has reached under thousands and thousands deep in the sea and high up in the space. It has reached on moon and mars, but unfortunately the sustainable inventions/innovation has not properly gone to the tiny tots and common people.

Dr. Panda is amazing and wizard of innovations and works with a principle the real scientist is he, who sees the things simply and works high.

Dr.Mihir Kumar Panda's work can be explained in short

The Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, JMEC says the greatest challenge facing the implementation of the peace agreement is inclusivity.

Speaking at the opening of a JMEC plenary meeting in Juba on 8 February 17, Festus Mogae said factions within the SPLM in opposition and inadequate representation of opposing voices in the peace process had undermined progress in the establishment of key institutions and mechanisms provided for in the peace agreement.

The JMEC chairperson also condemned continued fighting and reports of revenge killings, sexual violence and human rights abuses in parts of the country. Mogae said recent fighting around Malakal and in Renk of Upper Nile constitute a violation of the ceasefire agreement and said ceasefire monitors have opened investigations into the attacks.

Mogae also urged the swift deployment of the 4-thousand strong Regional Protection Force as approved by the UN Security Council to bolster security in Juba and its surrounding areas.
