This program, funded by the U.S. Department of State, is being implemented though a partnership between the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria and the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).
Bringing together 75 participants from South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe, the summit will utilize Model United Nations debating principles and structures. SAIIA is replicating a professional diplomatic setting where delegates will negotiate a cohesive youth-led position on wildlife conservation and combating wildlife trafficking. The summit provides a platform for youth to engage on the cross-cutting issues facing the region, developing skills that allow them to express their views and complex ideas in an international setting.

Faith based groups, the civil society, academics and other concerned citizens have petitioned South Sudan’s warring parties, former detainees and political parties to heed the calls for peace and implementation of the peace agreement.
Speaking in the capital Juba on December 16th 2015, the groups said they were concerned by delays in the ‘pre-transitional provisions of the Agreement”, highlighting that there has been loss of lives, destruction of property, violence, displacement and disruption of communities caused by a conflict which erupted two years ago in mid-December.

One major way birders contribute to conservation is through voluntarily collecting the data that is necessary to plan and implement bird conservation. The Christmas Bird Count is a classic example of citizen science, and has provided ornithologists with long-term trend data for every species in North American and beyond. Here, my friend Andy Kleinhesselink starts a long day of volunteering for the Christmas Bird Count by listening for owls in a local canyon well before sunrise on a cold December morning. eBird checklist: ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S12297678
As the province safely and gradually reopens and more people return to work, the Ontario government is partnering with public transit operators across the province to implement measures that will ensure transit workers and passengers can safely and confidently take public transit. The government has distributed comprehensive health and safety guidance documents and is providing significant funding to cover lost revenue, enhanced cleaning and other costs incurred because of COVID-19.

To act, decisionmakers need ideas--and the will to implement them. Effective policy engagement requires providing decisionmakers with accurate data, compelling stories and concise synthesis of applicable knowledge. Through the USAID-funded IDEA Project – Informing Decisionmakers to Act – Population Reference Bureau (PRB) and the Wilson Center provide evidence-based, accessible, cutting-edge communications; train and support U.S. and international media to influence policy change; build the communications capacity of institutions, researchers, and advocates; and nurture communities of policy champions. This panel will share their experiences with repositioning population and family planning as development priorities and their advice for increasing political commitment for policies and programs designed to make women and girls, men and boys, healthier and more productive. The panel will look forward to key issues on the horizon including FP2020, adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals, and the global resilience agenda.

Soweto Township in Johannesburg. Soweto was born when the authorities implemented the policy of apartheid to impose strict segregation. Black property owners were forced to give up their property and relocate under the Native Resettlement Act passed in 1954 to an area far removed from the White population. The government referred to this area as the South Western Townships, eventually shortened to Soweto.
At first appearance it would appear that Soweto is a holding area for the most impoverished, but Soweto is recovering. Despite the end of apartheid many people who could afford to live elsewhere choose to live in Soweto. Many residents are impoverished, but many middle and upper class people are moving to Soweto and building nice homes. Many Soweto residents consider it a badge of honor to live there.

We have implemented a flocking behaviour for the Birds which the user can see in the second univers.
We used the flocking system Boids developped by Craig Reynolds in 1986. We have studied some others implementations like the one from Daniel Schiffman on #Processing or the one from Robert Hodgins on #Cinder, then we try to create our own version using C#.
We also add others behaviors like a focus behavior and obstacle avoidance. Each agent can only focus on a limited number of neighbors. If the agent had reach its max of neighbors he ignores others agents which could enter in its field of view
25 Years
I joined the Army 25 years ago as an E-1 Private- the lowest grade there is
Today was my first duty day as a Lieutenant Colonel
I have served five Presidents and 10 SecDefs
The Army I joined had over 800,000 active duty soldiers and 18 combat Divisions
Today we are just over 500,000 and on a path to shrink well below that
Our 10 divisions are 25% smaller than divisions used to be
But we are also far more lethal and effective
Our main threat at the time - the Soviet Union - does not exist
Our main threat now - terrorism - was not deemed a threat
The gear I was issued in 1986 would have been familiar to a WWII soldier
I even had a Jeep
If I handed a WWII soldier my gear from Afghanistan, he would probably look at me like a space alien
We were fighting with the mujahidin against the Soviets in Afghanistan
Most of the Afghans I worked with fought against the mujahidin with the Soviets and now fight with us
But the government is controlled by former mujahidin
We were selling weapons to Iran to fight Iraq after previously selling weapons to Iraq to fight Iran
We bombed Libya for doing bad things
The requirement I am filling was created 25 years to the day from when I arrived
The Goldwater-Nichols Act implemented requirements for Joint assignments, exactly what I am doing now
It has been a long journey and one I would not do any differently
