A juvenile Bald Eagle was sitting on a snow covered dirt hill when another one came too close. It appears that the first one stepped on the second one's wing that immediately resulted in confrontation (next shot). Ok, not really stepped on, it is most likely an optical illusion because of limited spatial resolution; however, close enough to initiate the confrontation.
10 km West of Mtskheta in the mountains of Dzegvi village there is a functioning monastery of Shio-Mgvime (Simeon of Mgvime, VI century). The monastery literally merges with the sandy color of the mountain slopes. However, when its outlines begin to appear, it is immediately clear how ancient this monument is. The very first building of the monastery complex is a Church Dating back to the VI century. It is a small and low structure with a two-tiered dome. This Church is one of the most important ancient monuments. Buildings, similar to shiomgvime monastery, in Georgia, no longer exists.
The shiomghvime monastery more than three hundred years under the patronage of the prince’s amilakhvari was their family burial place. Georgians believe that the revival of the Orthodox Church in modern Georgia began with the revival of this monastery.
The history of the monastery began at a time when the Assyrian fathers dispersed from the Zedazen Mountain at all ends of the Eastern Shio-Mgvime and here, in the gorge behind Mtskheta, Saint Shio came and settled in a cave on the mountainside. One of the first followers of St. Shio was Evagrius, who owned the fortress of Chikhadiye near South over Mtkvari. One day he went to the mountains to hunt and saw Shio there. He decided to stay with him, sold all his property, distributed to the poor and became a monk.
The oldest and the first building on the territory of the complex is considered to be the temple of John the Baptist, built presumably at the end of the VI century, during the life of St. Shio. It is believe that Shio chose the place for the laying of the temple. To this end, he laid it on the arm of the burning incense, and went where pointed out the smoke. So icons often depict Shio steaming on the hand of incense.Shio-Mgvime
By 560-580, the monks dug caves and cells, which now surround the monastery and are visible from the road leading to the monastery complex. The upper Church, named after the Mother of God, built in the early 12th century by order of King David IV. Initially, the temple had a dome, but during the invasion of Shah Abbas in 1614, the temple destroyed and restored only half a century later, in 1678. It was restore in a simplified form, like a Basilica.
Shio Mgvime (Simeon) was a Saint of the Georgian Church, born in Antioch, the son of wealthy parents. Shio Mgvime gave all his estate, went to St. John, who lived near Antioch, which took Shio with him to Iberia. Shio Mgvime settled in the wilderness near Mtskheta. King Parsman VI, who visited the former favorite of his Evagrius in the desert, who had gone to Shio-Mgvime, gave the land for a monastery and brought considerable funds for the construction of temples. The number of brethren of the new monastery increased to 2000. However, the desire for complete solitude prevailed in the soul of Shio Mgvime. After leaving the Shio-Mgvime monastery founded by him, Shio-Mgvime left 160 written teachings for the brethren, and he doomed himself to a reclusive life in a dark deep cave. Died Shio Mgvime in the VII century. The power of Shio Mgvime rest in monastery Samtavro.
After Shio’s death, the monastery became a center of cultural and religious activities and was under the personal patronage of the Catholics of Georgia. David IV the Builder (1089-1125) made the Shio-Mgvime monastery the Royal domain and dictated the rules for the monastery (1123). The fall of the unified Georgian Kingdom and the incessant foreign invasions brought the Shio-Mgvime monastery into decline. The period of relative revival came when the Georgian king George VIII (1446-1465) provides Shio-Mgvime monastery and its lands to the noble family of Tavdgiridze-amilakhvari, which until 1810 years used it as a family tomb
Shio-Mgvime monastery was devastated by the invasion (1614-1616) the Persian armies of Shah Abbas I. the Prince Givi amilakhvari restored the monastery in 1678, but in 1720 the Ottoman occupation of Georgia brought another destruction of the Shio-Mgvime monastery. The Persians again destroyed the monastery, restored amilakhvari in 1733, less than two years later. Subsequently, the Shio-Mgvime monastery restored, its interior renovated in the XIX century, but the monastery could not return its past importance in the spiritual life of Georgia. During the Soviet period, the Shio-Mgvime monastery closed, part of the relics of St. Shio stored in the monastery burned, but one bone was preserved. Despite the fact that in Soviet time the monastery closed, the monks still continued secretly worship.

We generally think in terms of Renault as producing some exciting Rally and a few race cars, but mostly the public thinks of a French VW.....cheap transportation for the masses. But in the early days they also made some incredible Limos, including this wonderful Model XB Transformable Landaulet bodied by Henri Labourdette....how is that for a mouthful?
Louis Renault left his draughtsman's job at Delaunay-Belleville in 1897 to create his own car: the 1898 Renault Type A, an innovative and well-designed voiturette built at his family home in Boulogne-Billancourt. From that single car, Renault's industrial empire grew quickly. In 1905 the Type X was introduced; it had a 3-liter, 4-cylinder engine and was offered in three chassis lengths.
The Renault automobiles of the early 1900s had a unique style with a sleek sloping nose. The radiators, which were prominent on most other cars of the era, was positioned behind the engine and immediately ahead of the driver....nice place to get scalded.
Renault introduced the 4-cylinder, 13-liter Type AK in 1906, which would be used to race in the Grand Prix de l'Automobile Club de France and eventually won this grueling event by some distance. Their accomplishments in racing, along with their reputation for quality and performance, made them popular within the market.
One of the company's upmarket touring saloons was the long-wheelbase Type XB. It had a four-cylinder engine from dual two-cylinder castings with a displacement size of 3 liters. There was a four-speed gearbox and a forged front axle with double effect hydraulic shock absorbers. These vehicles, available in three different chassis lengths, were very very luxurious and comfortable.

Looking across Derwent Water from it's southern shore in the Lake District National Park, England to the southern flanks of Skiddaw (3054ft - 931mtrs)
The lake occupies part of Borrowdale and lies immediately south of the town of Keswick. It is both fed and drained by the River Derwent. It measures approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) long by 1 mile (1.6 km) wide and is some 72 feet (22 m) deep. There are several islands within the lake, one of which is inhabited. Derwent Island House, an 18th-century residence, is a tenanted National Trust property open to the public on five days each year. (wiki)
Literally set among the suggestive rocks of the Lucanian Dolomites , Castelmezzano , in the province of Potenza , is one of the most precious jewels of Basilicata . Its perched houses reminiscent of a crib , the rugged peaks that frame it, the small alleys and stairways that run through it offer enchanting views that truly conquer everyone and give off the perfect atmosphere for a weekend of high romance . The splendid location would be enough to make the resort an ideal destination for an extremely pleasant couple's stay , but in reality Castelmezzano has much more to offer visitors in search of a romantic atmosphere.
The emotion begins to grow already along the way when, after crossing a spectacular gorge , you find yourself walking along a tunnel dug into the rock , at the exit of which the view of the village clinging to the Lucanian Dolomites reaches straight to the heart, giving you immediately the impression of being in the right place with the right person. The shapes of the rocky peaks and their play of lights and shadows explain their evocative names, ranging from "beak of vicetta" to "lion's mouth" up to "anvil" and " golden eagle" , while the historic center with its typically medieval structure, enchants with the beauty of its houses wedged between the rocks and surmounted by roofs in sandstone slabs . Walking along the narrow alleys of the historic center and climbing the small stairways, you reach magnificent panoramic points from which to enjoy a splendid view of the surrounding landscapes , in a continuous interaction between urbanized views and natural sceneries that have earned the town the nickname of the city - nature .
Furthermore, Castelmezzano is included in the list of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy and, admiring the artistic and architectural treasures that it holds, immediately explains why. Piazza Caizzo with the splendid mother church of Santa Maria dell'Olmo is only the beginning of a magnificent itinerary dedicated to history and beauty. Walking along the main street of the town , with the Town Hall building to adorn it, you reach the ruins of the castle and, entering the streets of the center, you discover other precious buildings ranging from the elegant Palazzo Ducale to Palazzo Coiro . Going outside the town and exploring the surroundings, you will discover other enchanting surprises. The ancient mills with roofs made of local chiang chimate stone slabs dot the Caperrino valley crossed by picturesque buildings, stairways and bridges , while vestiges of distant eras peep out among the uncontaminated scenery of the Gallipoli Cognato Piccole Dolomiti Park .
I always relish seeing Kingfishers on my travels as I find them much more approachable than our single Kingfisher species we have here on the east coast of the US.
I have never been remotely successful in photographing our Belted Kingfisher. It seems that if I look sideways at them from 100 yards away, off they go in the other direction.
In fact, I'm confident that if I stood at the edge of a lake and muttered softly under my breath "Belted Kingfisher", every dang one of them within 1/4 mile would immediately take off for the next closest lake.
Given that, I was excited to finely arrange with Ron Bielefeld of Whistling Wings Photography for a morning photographing these wonderful birds.
Ron has a great setup with some small portable blinds that you setup in before sunrise and wait for the action to start.
it was a great experience that I am sure I will repeat the trip more than once. Highly recommended if you find yourself on the east coast of central Florida.
The important thing is to strive towards a goal which is not immediately visible.
That goal is not the concern of the mind, but of the spirit.

Have you seen an image of Pelé hugging some famous in the streets? It is the "Pele Beijoqueiro", a series of lambe-lambs by the artist Luis Bueno, 35, from São Paulo, present in walls and walls of several cities in Brazil.
Pele's Lambe-licks
Bueno has already put Pelé next to the Mona Lisa, of Leonardo da Vinci; characters from the "Star Wars" franchise; the painter Salvador Dalí and even the singer David Bowie, the biggest assembly of the series.
The lamb-lambes, artistic technique of assembly and collage, were inspired by a photo of Pelé embracing Muhammad Ali in 1977, in the United States.
"I fell in love with the image, which brought this gesture of affection and affection of a great symbol of Brazil that is Pelé. Immediately I realized that I could reconstruct the image and enjoy the gesture of the kiss, replacing Muhammad with other people," said Bueno , in an interview with Batanga.
The works are produced in stages. The artist took the photo and started a digital painting process that took months to get ready. Then it is scaled, separated into several parts for printing and cut manually. "Many pieces in the series are hand-painted too, which would be a fourth step," he says.

Pelé passed away yesterday in São Paulo, at the age of 82.

We have so many entrepreneurs and we desperately need people to discover something to replace plastic which is ruining our oceans, our lands, humanity, animal life, plant life, and climate. It is imperative that we are serious about this and find a solution immediately. Our children will suffer even more from our lack of caring, and if we don't do something soon it will be catastrophic!
The plastic pollution-free world is not a choice but a commitment to life - a commitment to the next generation.

ABOUT THE ISLAND AND THE NEIGHBORING BAY OF NAPLES
Rocca Sorrentina (region name: Westphalia) is a representation of a fictitious but historically-plausible 18th century island community, located in the Bay of Naples, off the coast of the Sorrento region in southern Italy. We are seeking to interpret and better understand various aspects of the Enlightenment and the era of the "Grand Tour" as they were manifested in Italy in the latter part of the 1700’s.
** THE HISTORICAL ENVIRONMENT/ROLEPLAY AREAS:
The buildings on the island reflect the complex society and the diverse architecture of southern Italy in the 1780's. There are the small shops of 18th century tradesmen, a dock area displaying merchant ships of the period, ancient ruins, fortifications, a grand villa (with chambers underneath which house a set of "En Garde" pistes that all are welcome to use), an underground cavern and lake, and a number of private residences.

Attended a Lime Rock Show yesterday, and was mostly disappointed with the subject matter. I'll probably have a few shots to post but one car immediately grabbed my attention and literally stopped me in my tracks. I was clueless as to what it was, but it was a real beauty. And it was until I returned home and did some online research when I found out more about this little gem...like it's 1/2 mullion dollar plus price, among other things. It's a limited production, custom bodied car built by an Italian company, Kimera, and it features the same underpinnings as the original Lancia EVO37, a 500hp+, both supercharged and turbocharged inline 2.1L 4 cylinder powerplant. The following will provide the interested reader with more details:
Following the launch of its original Lancia 037 restomod in 2021, Italian outfit Kimera Automobili has revealed a new limited-run take, inspired by Martini Racing’s iconic Group B racer. Developed in collaboration with two-time World Rally Champion Miki Biasion and Martini, just 37 examples will be produced, with prices expected to exceed the £415,000 of its original car.
Kimera’s EVO37 is not built from one of the few, and very special originals, but built from scratch in a similar construction method with modern materials and techniques. The chassis itself is a bespoke monocoque built from tube steel, with subframes directly welded to it on either side. The steel structure is then clothed in bespoke carbonfibre panels, replacing the original kevlar composite units.
While it features the same underpinnings as the original EVO37, the Martini 7 adopts a new carbonfibre aerodynamics package, applying a new front splitter, side skirts, more aggressive in-built canards and NACA ducts aft of the doors and on the rear haunches. The use of more carbonfibre and carbonkevlar in the Martini 7 is said to drop weight to 1100kg.
Continuing the motorsport theme, the rear has received a complete overhaul, with new carbonfibre air vents framing a transparent engine cover to reveal its rally-inspired power plant. The rear bumper is also now equipped with a quick disconnect mechanism, allowing buyers to display the gearbox casing and ceramic coated exhaust system in all its glory, just like the Group B 037.
As in the homologation car, the forged double wishbone suspension has a long-travel design, with dual Ohlins dampers flanking the separated spring at the rear and a more compact coilover design on the front end.
Like the structure, the engine is also referenced by the original, running a new-build 2.1-litre four-cylinder engine that is both turbo and supercharged. Unlike the original, however, the supercharger will be electrically driven, so as not to bleed power away from the engine itself as all purely mechanical units do.
The engine’s development has been overseen by one of Lancia’s original powertrain engineers Claudio Lombardi, and thanks to the advances in engine technology is said to produce 542bhp in Martini 7 trim, up 49bhp on the original EVO37. The engine will power the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual, or six-speed sequential transmission, the latter operable via electro-mechanically actuated paddles behind the steering wheel – in-line with its motorsport connection, ratios are shortened in Martini 7-trim.
The overall design remains similar to the original restomod, reworking the Lancia 037’s iconic design with the aid of modern, high-tech carbonfibre manufacturing techniques. Details, like the front and rear lighting, mesh inserts and wheels are also new, the latter being of a much larger 18- and 19-inch staggered design to clear the modern brake package. The Martini 7 receives new wheels inspired by those originally featured on the Delta Evoluzione, created with weight-saving in mind and incorporating the yellow/black carbon-kevlar of Delta group A cars.
Inside, Kimera has opted for a tasteful dry carbonfibre and blue Alcantara theme, with the dials coming with the same orange backlight as the racer. A unique limited-edition plaque, enamel Miki Biasion/Martini dashboard logo and Martini Racing harnesses also feature, with the main control panel labelled exactly how it was in the race car. Being a modern recreation, Kimera has also incorporated a second control panel in the centre console for fine tuning of the ABS and traction control.
A total of 37 Kimera EVO37 Martini 7s will be produced, joining 37 of the original recreation.

we return at night. I take a last path alone and immediately see two does pass in front of me which seem turbulent, then a 3rd and a 4th. Too quickly, they didn't bother me. view and I continue to move forward only to freeze because I think that the deer is likely to follow and there... A very long face to face, around 30 seconds..

"The Phæno Science Center is an interactive science center in Wolfsburg, Germany, completed in 2005.
Phæno arose from urban planning by the City of Wolfsburg. In 1998 City officials were developing a plot of vacant, public land immediately adjacent to Wolfsburg's railway station and just south of VW's huge, then-unfinished attraction Autostadt. [...]
Preliminary planning began in November 1998, and one year later Joe Ansel, an American consultant and designer, was approached to handle the exhibitions and other operational aspects of the project. An architectural design competition was held in January 2000 and the prominent architect Zaha Hadid won, in conjunction with structural engineers, Adams Kara Taylor. About five years later, Phæno opened to the public on November 24, 2005 with over 250 interactive exhibits from Ansel Associates, Inc. all enclosed in an astounding concrete structure designed by Zaha Hadid, her German associate, Mayer Bährle architects and Adams Kara Taylor. The architectural design has been described as a "hypnotic work of architecture - the kind of building that utterly transforms our vision of the future." The design won a 2006 RIBA European Award as well as the 2006 Institution of Structural Engineers Award for Arts, Leisure and Entertainment Structures.
The building stands on concrete stilts, allowing visitors to the Autostadt to pass through without interfering with the workings of the building. Phæno is connected to the Autostadt by a metal bridge accessed by escalators and stairs either side. The underside of Phæno and the "stilts" are illuminated. [...]" (Wikipedia)
Immediately adjacent the Neveh Shalom Synagogue (1842) on the Keizerstraat in Paramaribo is this impressive mosque. It replaces the old wooden mosque of 1932, and was designed and constructed under the supervision of Heinrich Wladimir Mohamed Radja Oemrawkhan (1917-1976) from about 1974.
Suriname has the highest percentage of Muslims of any country in South America: about 14% of the population. The reason for this is the policy of the Dutch colonial government in the nineteenth century. When slavery was ending, new labor was needed and the Dutch - a still mundial colonial power - 'imported' contract laborers from their Eastern colony, now Indonesia. Some of these were Sunni Muslims, who worshipped in various localities until that 'real' house of worship was allowed to be built of Suriname wood.
Dandahra Falls, Gibraltar Range NP, northern NSW.
You don't see many photos of Dandahra Falls, partly due to the old track being closed and the new one is very rough and a bit of a tricky scramble down the edge of the escarpment. What beautiful and wild falls they are though!
The climb down brings you onto rough rock ledge, but it's impossible to get a clear shot of the falls - without the aid of a rope at least! - because of all of the trees, and positions are limited by the cliff edge with a 100m+ drop if you put a foot wrong.
However this tree, backlit by the late afternoon sun, immediately caught my attention. Isolated against the dark rock face of the shadowed falls, the contrast of light and colours were a sight to behold. With some careful clambering I worked myself into the perfect position to make this photograph before starting the slog back up the slope.

Delphinium is a wonderful flower.
He is a talisman and a talisman.
He is a famous love spell
Capricious, sophisticated ladies.
Delphinium is a source of poison,
A flower of sadness, a shadow of longing.
It attracts the eye.
He is the tenderness of a loving hand......At all times, Delphinium surprises with its forms and the beauty of flowering.
Its stem can grow tiny, not reaching ten centimeters from
the ground, or rise in height, like a three-meter mast. Its inflorescences
resemble a blooming pyramid or a fountain, rejoicing under the rays of the sun.
And, how amazing is the color scheme of Delphinium buds! Among the openwork
leaves, azure, white, purple or blue, red or
cream petals open, and with undisguised curiosity,
white "eyes" look from the petals from the center of the terry inflorescences. But the most remarkable color
of the Delphinium is “blue”, symbolizing the beauty of the heavens and eternity,
the depth of the seas and the nobility of origin, perfection, peaceful life....In fact, the Delphinium flower is not as harmless as it looks. It is not worth
them to feast on any animal, especially people, because it is poisonous.
The poison of Delphinium is comparable... except with the poison of the mysterious "curare". Even
bees arriving at such a honey plant prepare "drunk" honey...But if you want to enchant someone, then Delphinium is irreplaceable. In the hands
of an experienced witcher, it is suitable for creating a “love potion". For superstitious
people, Delphinium can serve as a talisman. Dry, necessarily blue,
Delphinium and hide it in a linen bag. Then, before going to sleep at night, lead
to the neck not for the sight of prying eyes. Then the nightmarish visions or
insomnia will immediately stop. Even the ancient Slavs prepared a medicine from Delphinium that heals wounds.
Hence its second, very strange name "larkspur". But do not try
to prepare such a medicine yourself. Because there is no recipe in sight for a long time.
Perhaps it is buried deep in the ground on a distant, uninhabited island and under
some oh-oh-huge tree, near which there is a formidable guard
- fire-breathing dragon. Delphiniums are noble in origin.... From Olympus, the Gods smiled at this beauty.
They are patient with the shade and the sun, spring frosts, unyielding
in the gusts of winds that chill us. Terry “fountains”, like a dream,
shine in the light when in dew. Elegant Delphiniums bloom in gardens and anyone
who sees them will exclaim: ”A-a-ah!”.

As I entered the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve this morning I immediately came across this handsome Bullock's Oriole - a good start to the morning !
I immediately fell in love with the beautiul town of Swifts Creek and our visit here is all too short! If you ever find yourself in this part of the world I highly recommend a visit.
Swifts Creek is Located on the Great Alpine Road in the beautiful Tambo Valley between Omeo and Ensay, 379 kilometres east of Melbourne. The area was originally settled by Europeans in the gold rushes of the mid-1800s.

ARTLANE
Sai Ying Pun represents a unique mix of cultures, of modernity with tradition: century-old buildings standing next to fancy new residential complexes, dried seafood shops, local eateries alongside modern specialty cafes.
Thanks to an exciting urban art project, ARTLANE, initiated by Henderson Land, Sai Ying Pun has also been transformed into a “mural village”, along from Ki Ling Lane, Shek Chan Lane to Chung Ching Street, with more than 10 pieces of artwork on display around the area.
Inspired by street art from New York, London and Seoul, the project brings together nine international and local artists to give the neighborhood a unique artistic face based on the theme of art and music of Soho.
It's super accessible as well! Take the MTR to Sai Ying Pun station and make your way to Exit B3 - you'll immediately be greeted with bright alleyways full of vibrant murals.
This truck adorns the hill immediately above the Sunset Grill in Moab, Utah.
The Sunset Grill was originally the home of uranium magnate Charlie Steen.
This adult Coot was diving and getting food for two chicks. For whatever reason, it took after one of the chicks, grabbed its head and gave is a sharp shake. The chick was released immediately and appeared none the worse for the experience. I can only guess the adult was making a point about dining etiquette or something.
Immediately after shooting the previously-shared photo ('A Fast Piece'), I returned to my more traditional f/64. This lengthened the shutter speed to two seconds. This gave the period breezes some time to work. I waited for the next wind, and then opened the shutter while it blew.

When I photographed this eastbound CSX unit train emerging from "Little Tunnel," immediately east (or south, by actual direction) of Natural Tunnel on March 7, 1987, the only way to get to the bottom from the park entrance up top was a switchback path. I usually drove in at the old Natural Tunnel quarry and made my way along a maintenance road beside the old Glenita siding. There was a place to leave my vehicle and walk in from there along the track. No doubt that's what I did in this case.
You might notice the sign on the right beside the portal. It advised visitors to NOT walk in the middle of the track and always be vigilant for trains in either direction at any time. Otherwise, you could walk through the tunnel itself but be "careful." It was quite dangerous, particularly if you were just a casual visitor.
It was not wise to be inside Natural Tunnel when a train was passing. The 18-degree reverse curve and steep grade was a recipe for a derailment. While it's been a long time since one occurred, westbound empty hoppers could easily "stringline" on the left-hand curve if the engineer wasn't very careful with his throttle settings. If you were standing beside the train, you would be "squished like a little ol' bug," as one of my friends used to say. A runaway coal train on the downgrade could have filled the entire cavern with coal and twisted wreckage. Again, there was no escape if you were inside at that time.
Today's chairlift and viewing platform was a compromise between the Commonwealth of Virginia (Department of Conservation and Recreation) and NS. It allowed access to the bottom, but controlled pedestrian routes to stay off the track and stay out of the tunnel itself. Of course, if you visit at a time the chairlift isn't running, you can always do what I did. Park rangers will not be happy if you're inside the tunnel on the track, however. They do have police power to arrest and fine you, I might add.

When people think of a wooly bear caterpillar they immediately think of the banded wooly bear, which according to folklore can predict the severity of winter weather. But there are actually eight or more species that could be called wooly bears. The wooly bear caterpillar is the larval stage of the adult tiger moth. I'm not sure which species of wooly bear/tiger moth this one represents. it was feasting on weeds in our backyard.
After pulling a single boxcar out of the Tribune's Freedom Center on the right, UP #815 runs around its train at Grand Avenue Yard before starting up towards the northwest side to switch Alpha Baking. CNW waycar #11119 will bring up the markers as usual and will be used on the two-mile shove down the Cragin Lead.
The events of the past month have effectively signaled the end of freight operations in the former C&NW switching district around North Avenue. Last month, Blommer Chocolate abruptly closed its plant on Desplaines and Kinzie immediately ending rail service on the upper level and the last tank car arriving on the lower level last week. The Tribune is expected to start laying off workers this month with printing operations moving to Schaumburg and the Freedom Center being vacated to make way for the construction of Bally's casino. This leaves Alpha Baking as the last industry on the Harvard Sub east of Deval which means regular freight operations east of Mayfair will cease once Blommer and the Tribune close. Word on the street has it that an Elk Grove-based job will replace the 60B to switch the remaining customers on the Harvard between Mayfair and Barrington. Another chapter of Chicago railroading is about to come to an end.

Lake Rotomahana is immediately south-west of the dormant volcano Mount Tarawera, seen in the photo. Its geography was substantially altered by a major 1886 eruption of Mount Tarawera.
Before the 1886 eruption, only two small lakes were present in the current lakes basin. Following the eruption, a number of craters filled over the course of 15 years to form todays Lake Rotomahana. It is the most recently formed larger natural lake in New Zealand, and the deepest in the Rotorua district. Lake Rotomahana has no natural outlet, and its water level varies by about one metre in response to rainfall and evaporation.
The lake is a wildlife refuge, with all hunting of birds prohibited. A healthy population of black swan inhabits the lake, and there are efforts underway to ensure the lakes largest island, Patiti Island, is kept pest-free. There is no public access to the lake.
A boat cruise on the lake is well worth taking, visiting hydrothermal features on the lakes shore.
This immediately reminded me of a UK scifi (tounge in cheek) TV show called Red Dwarf where there is a computer which has a face on a white backdrop and she's called Holly!

i'd titled this Falling Water, and immediately thought of the house designed by F. L. Wright, so amended the title.
This isn't that Falling Water.
One of the few shots with which I'm happy, taken from this side of the waterfall. Most of my shots from this side of the waterfall have blown out highlights as I shoot into the sun. I can't remember why three years ago I was able to get a better angle.
There is a color toning in Nik Silver Efex that I like and I'm experimenting with trying to find it using only Photoshop. I'm getting closer. This with a gradient map of amber - ultramarine.
The Fountain of Neptune is a fountain in Rome, Italy, located at the north end of the Piazza Navona.
It was once called "Fontana dei Calderari" because it was located close to a small alley with blacksmith's workshops, makers of pots and pans and of other metal based businesses, all of them generating heat.
The restoration of the Roman Aqua Virgo aqueduct in 1570 was immediately followed by the start of work on a continuation water supply pipe towards the district of the old Campo Marzio, which following the diminution of the city's size and importance was left as the most densely populated part of the city. Restoration of a piped water supply in turn permitted the construction of several public fountains. The basin of the Fontana del Nettuno, (without the sculptures), was designed in 1574 by Giacomo Della Porta, who was also responsible for the Moor Fountain at the other side of the square. It was sponsored by pope Gregory XIII. The lower part of the basin consists of white marble and the upper part of the local stone from Pietrasanta. For the next 300 years, the fountain survived without statues.
Nineteenth-century infrastructure developments reduced dependence on urban fountains for drinking and washing purposes but increased their visual and political importance, especially following the creation of the Italian state with Rome as its capital after 1870. The fountain as it exists today was finally completed in 1878 by Antonio della Bitta, who added the sculpture of Neptune fighting with an octopus, and Gregorio Zappalà, who created the other sculptures, based on the mythological theme of the "Nereids with Cupids and walruses". This statuary was added following a competition in 1873, in order to balance that of the Moor Fountain on the south side of the piazza and of the Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) at its centre.
After the Ferromex, a quick run over to Tower A20 netted this all KCS grey lash-up on CP Eastbound train #380-602, with grain for CSX. December's shaping up!
Phlu is an old word for Betel, a leaf that was used for chewing in a similar way to tobacco. Talat is Thai for market and this area was well known for selling betel until it was finally banned immediately after World War II due to its adverse health effects. Now more wholesome produce is sold here.
Except for immediately following rainfall, which is generally infrequent, creek beds in the Flinders Ranges do not, for the most part, have visible running water. Nevertheless there is oftentimes water filtering through the sand beneath the ground which can be forced to the surface in places by local bedrock, as seen here. Upstream and downstream of this section of flowing water the creek bed is seemingly dry.
