Day 80 of an Undetermined Number
"Woman in Church in Bruges"
I am by no means a religious man, but I will visit every church, cathedral and temple while traveling internationally. If a town doesn't have a museum, I'll bet the pretty stuff is at the church!! Historically speaking, it was the church that could afford to commission painters and sculptors, so naturally the art frequently depicted religious themes. It makes sense. With that being said, here is a photograph of a woman sitting in a church.....in Bruges. I don't recollect what she was looking at, but I liked the natural light pouring in through the doors. The portrait is a tad blurred, as I did not crank up the ISO, and I was attempting to capture the portrait cunningly, before my subject spotted me. I framed the image so the negative space was behind her, thereby hoping to create a little tension. Thank you for having a look!!

Actor Kim Jurek Lukasik wanted to expand his portfolio with a range of studio and outdoor editorial shots. I like to call this photo the "Sunset Cigarette." due to the photo's color tones, and Mr. Lukasik's contemplative countenance.

Day 323 of an Unknown Number
"Mystically Thine"
As a child I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Europe....specifically, Paris. During one of our visits a very long time ago, we stopped in at Shakespeare and Company, a little bookstore near the Seine. I would always look at either the books on Chaplin and early film, or magic. For some reason a book by Ricky Jay caught my attention. The book was, Cards as Weapons. I don't know if it was the descriptive techniques of throwing playing cards, or if it was the fact that the model demonstrating the techniques was a beautiful nude woman. Regardless, when we returned home, I was hanging carrots on strings in the hallway, and exhausting my wrist and elbow, attempting to slice the dangling veggies. Not a pretty picture, I know. With that being said.............I can throw a playing card better than you. Years later, I worked on "Boogie Nights", and spotted Mr. Jay on his director's chair. I finally built up the little confidence I had at the time, and told him my story in relation to himself and his book. After a few days of pondering the idea, I finally brought my copy of Cards as Weapons to the set, and asked him if he would autograph it. He obliged, and signed it, "Mystically thine." That was pretty damn cool for a shy, nerdy young man. Ricky Jay was not only one of the greatest close-up magicians, but he was also an avid collector of books on magic and all things strange, an actor, author, and creator of illusions for film and stage. You may not know his name, but you've seen his work. RIP, Mr. Jay.

"If you want to become the best runner you can be, start now. Don't spend the rest of your life wondering if you can do it." - Priscilla Welch
Grand Canyon Sky Walk, Arizona.
After a magnificent breakfast in Boulder City and losing "several" miles finding the proper road, we finally arrived to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon, where this Sky Walk is located.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon_Skywalk
They take you on these buses to several observations points. This was one of them. You just walk towards the verge of the canyon and there you go, I mean, there's nothing or nobody warning you to be careful or to watch your step (maybe I didn't see it or its included in the ticket as a disclaimer). I was jumping rocks and going with my tripod from one place to another thinking the best way to capture the scene just 2-3 feet away from the cliff when I realized how dangerous that place could be.
I had the chance to experience the Grand Canyon riding an helicopter 15 years ago, amazing feeling of course, but the fact of of standing right there on the verge of the cliff and realistically perceive its scale, that's another story. So I invite you to stand right here, open your eyes and hold your breath.

Badu or Badu Island (Mulgrave Island), pronounced ['ba:du:] in English, in Kala Lagaw Ya Badhu [bad̪u], is an island in the Torres Strait 60 kilometres (37 mi) north of Thursday Island, Queensland, Australia. Badu Island is also a locality in the Torres Strait Island Region, and Wakaid is the only town, located on the south-east coast. This island is one of the Torres Strait Islands. The language of Badu is Kala Lagaw Ya.
The Mura Badulgal (Torres Strait Islanders) Corporation administers land on behalf of the Badulgal people. The Badulgal people’s ownership of Badu and surrounding islands in the Torres Strait was recognised in a native title determination on 1 February 2014, when the Queensland Government handed over to the Badhulgal traditional owners freehold title to 9,836 hectares (24,310 acres) of land.
Kala Lagaw Ya (also known as Kala Lagaw Ya, KLY and Gumulgal) is one of the languages of the Torres Strait. Kala Lagaw Ya is the traditional language used on the Western and Central islands of the Torres Strait. The Kala Lagaw Ya language region includes the landscape within the local government boundaries of the Torres Shire Council.
In 1606, Luís Vaz de Torres sailed to the north of Australia through Torres Strait, navigating it, along New Guinea's southern coast.
Warfare (feuding, headhunting), farming, fishing, canoe building, house building, turtle and dugong hunting and a host of other activities were the main occupations of Badu men until the 1870s. However, headhunting ceased with the adoption of Christianity.
Pearlers established bases on the island during the 1870s and by the early 1880s the islanders were becoming dependent on wages earned as lugger crews. At the same time, the first missionaries arrived. At the peak of the shell industry in the late 1950s, the Badu fleet of 13 boats employed a workforce of 200 providing work for many men, even from other islands as well. Once the shell trade declined, many people moved to the mainland for work.
Badu Island State School opened on 29 January 1905.

On September 11, 2015, sea ice in the Arctic most likely reached its minimum extent for year. The minimum ice extent was the fourth lowest since satellite record keeping began in 1979. This image shows the sea ice concentration data from the Special Sensor Microwave Imager/Sounder (SSMIS) sensor on the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellite, operated by NOAA/NESDIS. A yellow line shows the historical ice edge (median) for September 11. VERSE OF THE DAY 8/21
Genesis 8:21 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done..."

"The Best Hiding Place"
Sometimes, you just have to be in the moment. That is something I tell myself all the time. I should listen more often. So, when your almost-two-year-old attempts to escape an inevitable diaper change, that's when you pull out the.......phone camera. There was no time to grab the "real" one. I got one image, and this was it. It is by no means the greatest image, technically speaking, but it certainly caught her mischievous personality, and that is certainly more important. She was backlit by the afternoon sun, and I intentionally allowed for a little lens flare. For the record, I did finally manage to change her diaper. Father: 1, Daughter: most of the rest. Thanks for popping in!!
