This selfie 3-shot compilation is posted in answer to a quote theme from The Lord of the Rings for the "Me Again Monday" group. The background image is inside Canterbury Cathedral that I took last year with the SP & the floating ball taken a couple of days ago.
With a little assistance from Photoshop Elements & a whole lot of patience, "Hey presto!".
HMAM to all in the group.
The dining room at the Spring House Hotel, where an old pal of Bonney's was celebrating an important birthday with friends.
Impression created from a view of the lake surface, including a floating sweep of detritus ensnared in a web of underwater vegetation, and a reflection of the sky, on an afternoon walk. The vegetation, underexposed, becomes a mysterious sweep of texture, defining the foreground plane, against the reflection, which has diminishing focus from the tree branch reflection on through to the cloud-diffused sun disc.
The whole thing was another exploration of the perceptual dimensional mixup that such a view creates. Somehow, to my own eye, the "upward" curve makes the image look upside down, but it's not.. just happened to be curved in that direction.

Day 9 of 365
I've found myself giving my 365 Days Project more and more thought the further I get. One concept I came up with was putting myself in paintings and other artwork that I admire and like. Rene Magritte has always been a favorite of mine and in looking through some of his work, I've found a lot that I can draw inspiration from. This one is my first of many to come (or so I believe at this point in time). You can see the original here.

A composite of 5 images blended together and edited using my fantastic new Wacom Intuos5 graphic tablet - which made a quite challenging Photoshop edit a hell of a lot easier. Thanks parents!!

This set of four images of the saucer magnolia in my driveway were done by the light of my off-camera flash, softened with a semi-inflated plastic Walmart shopping bag. I gathered the opening around the flash while encouraging the bag to stay as air-filled as possible.. like a big pillow/bubble... which I would hold wherever I wanted the soft light to come from. All educated guesswork, since I couldn't see the results before the shot, but could adapt by checking the review screen on the camera. I used the 18-55mm kit lens set toward the wider-angled end to get a more intimate perspective.
Some tonal tweaking and selective sharpening done in Photoshop.

The girl who inspired Cristofano Allori's Judith with the Head of Holofernes was known as La Mazzafirra … she was Maria de Giovanni Mazzafirri and for a time Allori's lover. When she left him, his heart broke, and what better story than Judith's to illustrate the intensity of his loss.
The apocryphal Book of Judith tells that the brave widow spent three chaste evenings with the invading Babylonian general, Holofernes. On the third, Judith managed to get Holofernes utterly drunk. She took his sword, cut off his head, and returned with both to her jubilant Bethulian people. Threat of invasion over.
In Allori's painting, La Mazza is Judith, La Mazza's interfering mother is Judith's maid, and poor disconsolate Allori is Holofernes.
Allori painted many versions of the concept. The original is at the Palazzo Pitti. An infinitely better one is in the British Royal Collection and is on public view from time to time, in the Queen's Gallery.
Looking at a reproduction of the Queen's version, I felt La Mazza's mother seemed somehow an afterthought, added for the sake of the original story in which Judith's maid accompanied her during her visits to the Babylonian camp. Some amateurish retouching of an image and here's the result.
Two prints of my version exist: neither is in the Queen's hands, but both take pride of place on their owners' walls.
What you can't see here is that, reportedly, La Mazza has her mouth slightly open, making her expression rather lascivious. Poor Cristofano! A heart pierced by Cupid's arrows and wrenched out because of La Mazza's interfering mother. And surely no pleasure in the fact that La Mazza died in 1617 ...

I decided to duo-tone this one to minimize the distractions of the background lakeshore.
I finally was in the right place, half-hidden in a natural blind, when this beauty I had seen fishing all around the lake for at least two weeks decided to come land on the neighbor's diving board. I had a chance for about a dozen decent frames before she departed for another fishing spot on the shore. (I don't Know if it's a 'She' or not.. just an guess, since they look like the males, only slightly smaller.)
I hadn't noticed them in the area, 'til this year. Apparently they hang a little closer to the beaches. Though similar to cattle egrets, which Are common inland, these great egrets are larger and lankier.
