I was fooling around with my usb tv card and happened to screenshot a news item about malaria in africa which somehow ended up like this...
/ after we were gone the ruins of our civilization became even more beautiful with each passing age...
This set of four images of the saucer magnolia in my driveway were done by the light of my off-camera flash, softened with a semi-inflated plastic Walmart shopping bag. I gathered the opening around the flash while encouraging the bag to stay as air-filled as possible.. like a big pillow/bubble... which I would hold wherever I wanted the soft light to come from. All educated guesswork, since I couldn't see the results before the shot, but could adapt by checking the review screen on the camera. I used the 18-55mm kit lens set toward the wider-angled end to get a more intimate perspective.
Some tonal tweaking and selective sharpening done in Photoshop.

This is a color-added version of a photo of my father that I shot on an old 120rollfilm backed view camera, in 2.25" X 3.25" format. We shot the original one evening more than a year after he retired, on Tri-X Pan film, processed in D-76, no doubt (unless it was HC110). The lighting was from a couple of incandescent flood lights we had set up from his workshop, behind him. Exposures were longish, and I had my fingers crossed that he'd held still long enough to pull this off.. his steadiness came through, though.
As the background was pretty much plain, I knew I wanted to add some effects to complete the image I had half-formed in my mind of his being on duty at a fire. I had photographed fires, during my newspaper days, so imagining the lighting didn't take much, given that the emergency vehicle lights were such American colors, eh? Photoshop technology provided me a way to do that from the original negative, by way of my CanoScan scanner.
My dad really got into it, adding the charcoal to his face and hands, and letting me toss some water on him. (If Only I'd had an assistant -or spinnkler- to throw some water During the exposure?)

This is the Prudential Tower in Boston, seen through the dome of the south lobby rotunda in the Hynes Auditorium next door. (Boyleston Street, Back Bay, Boston)
since the whole phenomenon of fall(en) leaves suggests Brown.. This Treatment of an earlier image was tempting. I was finding an earthy human body gesture suggestion in the form, as it is framed, and that shows up a bit better in this version, too.

Meet Daniel, a friend of mine. One of the most funniest guys on earth. A specimen in extinction. One of God's own prototypes, too weird to live, and too rare to die.
This one was taken in Ilha do Mel, a couple years ago. I put that joke beneath this picture because it is so Daniel alike.
He is exactly the kind of guy who does that kind of thing, among other worse stuffs! Almost like Johnny Knoxville from Jackass TV show! But thats a whole different history...:-)

Spanning the West River in Dummerston, Vermont since 1872, and having survived disastrous floods in 1927 and 2011 (Tropical Storm Irene), this bridge remains open for vehicular traffic. The longest covered bridge in Vermont, its single lane connects Dummerston with VT Route 30 and is one of the two main routes to the rest of the world.
