This is the other negative of Mell that I shot in this pose. Think I might like it better, although they are very similar.

My favorite day of photography in Zion National Park back in May, was the day we spent in Taylor Creek Canyon. If you look back through my photographs or browse the Zion Gallery you'll see several other photos from that day. As the day drew to a close and the sun had set I made one last photograph before packing everything up. The light was growing dim and the wind was picking up a little bit and in many ways it seems a less than ideal time to continue. Rather than worry about a little blur appearing in the trees I decided to simply embrace it. The result is not entirely what I anticipated, as small patches of trees are more strongly affected than others, allowing some areas to remain sharp while others show the blur of their movement.

In this low dusk light, the scene was very low in contrast. I added a red (25A) filter to add some contrast by darkening shadows and emphasizing the white tree trunks and red and orange sandstone. The result is one of my most personally satisfying photographs from that day.

For reasons I've forgotten, I prepared a scan of this photograph a while back, cleaned it up a little, and then forgot about it. After more than a month without posting any new work online I was just about to get started scanning when I noticed it again. This time I found it decidedly more interesting and quickly finished cleaning it up to share. Perhaps now I can get back to the business of preparing some new photographs to share as well.
