I had a suspicion that the sunrise could be good on this morning. NOAA had predicted the leading edge of the next system would be rolling into the Bay Area early in the morning. I arrived at Hawk Hill around 6:15, and it was mostly clear looking out towards the East Bay. I thought to myself, "Skunked again!" I shot the blue hour with a few patchy clouds in the distance, and wasn't too impressed, but I began to notice lots of clouds coming in off the Pacific Ocean. There were a few other photographers up there, and we all knew what was about to happen. You could hear, "Oh My God!" coming from a few mouths. For me, it was truly a phenomenal event. I remember walking in front of my camera at one point to wipe my lens, and I was looking into the glass seeing the reflection of the exploding sky behind me; I looked around at people's faces, and there was a pinkish, orange glow on everyone.
The lights on the Golden Gate Bridge were turned off by then, but sky gave us a light show I will never forget.
In addition I also got to finally meet two of my Flickr contacts, John, and Andrew Loui.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

I'm speculating that marsh gas rising from the swamps around Muddy Creek Dam has been ignited by this bolt of lightning and exploded in a fireball. It was quite an impressive display of nature's power. Another house in the district was destroyed by this storm at nearby Plano Texas when it's roof caught fire after being struck by lightning. Six strikes a minute are pouring down on this small area.
A simple match ignition.
I used a lighter as a starter, and continuous shooting. The rest is in the EXIF.
I'm at a bonfire with a few friends and I'm just snapping pictures of whatever I can. As my friend sprays some fuel into the fire, it erupts. I instantly had the idea to take this photo. He sprayed a little more fuel into the pit as I held the shutter release down to capture the perfect moment.
Taken using a modified 30-85mm lens to convert it for macro shots - 0.6 seconds exposure, f/22.0, ISO 100, 42mm

Sydney Olympic Cauldron, Cathy Freeman Park,
Sydney Olympic Park, NSW, Australia.
Artist: Michael Scott-Mitchell
The Olympic Cauldron stands on 24 stainless steel lags and weighs seven tonnes.
The names of the 1,972 Olympic medallists and 2,627 Paralympic medallists are inscribed on gold, silver, and bronze nameplates at the base of the cauldron.
A dome of white marble commemorates the first modern Olympics held in Athens, Greece, in 1896.
The Sydney Olympic Cauldron was lit by Indigenous runner, Cathy Freeman, during the opening ceremony for the Sydney Olympic Games.
After the Olympics it was moved to Cathy Freeman Park (formerly known as The Overflow).
It was converted to a fountain, but is still lit for special events.
The Olympic Cauldron was heritage-listed to celebrate the 10yr anniversary of the Olympic Games in Sydney.
Playing with fire.
For this photo I was standing so as to block light from falling on to the lighter which was held securely in a vice.
I opened the shutter and quickly went through the motion of sparking the lighter, I then moved my hand out of the way, simultaneously stepping back to allow the light to illuminate the lighter while the exposure continued.
~`*~~`*~~ Story Behind Ignition
Because when one's heart finally opens and one loses. There is nothing left to fear to keep the walls up. One is free not to just love only one person, but free to love everyone.

Rock-n-Soul Angel
Note: The real Angel of the story is not depicted here.
Forgive and love without conditions or have an expectation on who and how that should look like or be for oneself or others. That is detachment. It is unconditional love and not a sacrifice.
Storms
"But in those years and in lifetimes's past
I did not deal with the road...
Every hour of fear I spend
My body tries to cry
Living through each empty night
A deadly calm inside
So I try to say goodbye, my friend
I'd like to leave you with something warm.
But never have I been a blue, calm sea.
I have always been a storm."
Fleetwood Mac
This song has deep meaning for me:
It is time for me to deal with the road--my own personal spiritual path/road home and be in the now.
June will be a tough one, spiritually wise. June 5th sees a new moon with Gemini energy. Lots of outdated patterns coming up for spiritual expansion and freer truth--all for the greater good of the soul.

Watch out for a series of less edited shots to come. There are many styles of photography that appeal to me and I've often struggled to put them all here because of the worry that plants, close ups, textures, landscapes, cityscapes etc wont 'fit' together.
The idea behind a lot of these raw/strange looking images is that no matter where you are, it can be fun to just try to arrange elements together to make an image work. Sometimes, although it's not aesthetically pleasing in a traditional sense, it is just interesting to look at things in a different light.
