Strobist info: used a single off camera flash to light up the box, stick, and fingers. The head/flame are obviously lit themselves.
The combination of bad weather and not feeling 100% saw me entertaining myself with a box of matches today (wait til my mum sees this, lol!). This is a macro shot of a match lighting.

Sun bursts out from behind a tree and beams onto the carpet of bluebells, with some soft falloff onto the tree in the RHS of the frame
I was so excited to view my camera LCD after the shots that I almost burned my clamp ( (which held the match) couple of times, because I forgot to put out the match.

I was very much into model rocketry as a young guy in the late 70's. Then you could buy black powder rocket engines (Estes) with different thrusts and delay (for parachute deployment) for a variety of model rockets. Guess what? They are not available anymore...
Found this model in the attic when doing some cleaning.
Nostalgia...

About
A match just after ignition, it took me about 20 matches to get a few good shots.
Match on lightstand, camera on tripod, first focused on match head, switched to manual focus afterwards, match was lit using another match a few centimeters below, in this shot I used my reaction time to snap, in the shots afterwards I benifitted from the high speed drive of the Canon 60D to get 5.6frames a second.

I must be getting old..... my timing is really starting to suck - either that or the batteries in my remote are ready for a change. Let's go with the later. ;)
Exactly 62 wooden kitchen matches later, lol.

I went to Goodwood with a neighbour today, to photograph his 93-year old father who was going for a flight in this Spitfire. He had flown in the RAF in 1945; he was on cloud nine after this wonderful experience
