Forty-seven elected officials, political party leaders, and civic activists from around the world are participating in the IVLP project “The U.S. Electoral Process” to observe U.S. approaches to political campaigns and election administration. The participants from 45 countries were welcomed to the State Department by Assistant Secretary for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marie Royce; the Director of the Office of International Visitors Anne Grimes; and IVLP program officer Stephen Taylor. The meeting also included presentations by officials of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor:
- Christie Arendt, Global Affairs Section Head, Office of Multilateral and Global Affairs, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL/MLGA),
- Carolyn Zander, Lead Program Analyst, Rapid Response, Office of Global Programming, Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL/GP)
This group learned about how to form connections with American businesses to begin exporting their products.
In April 2013, participants of WEAmericas took part in the International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) annual exchange and traveled to the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. The 13 Latin American women business owners met with organizations like the Cherie Blair Foundation and Wal-Mart Foundation, as well as local businesses and organizations. The women discussed market expansion of their businesses via funding available from universities, corporations, businesses, and private sector associations.
The W-GDP group explored the focus, scope and mission of the W-GDP Initiative with representatives of partner agencies such as the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and the U.S. Department of State (DoS). With the NSC’s Mia Mitchell as moderator, the speakers discussed how their agencies support the three pillars of the W-GDP Initiative (I, Advancing women in the workforce; II, Promoting women’s entrepreneurship and III, Identifying and reducing barriers to women’s full participation in the global economy). Following the roundtable, the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and Meridian International Center hosted a networking reception, including remarks by Ms. Ivanka Trump, Advisor to the President of the United States.
On Friday, May 9, 2014 Women entrepreneurs from Latin America, participating in the WeAmerica initiative, met with Secretary of State John Kerry and Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issuess, Catherine Russell to discuss the WeAmerica inititative.

Seventy International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) participants from around the world are participating in “The U.S. Electoral Process” initiative. The participants from 45 countries were welcomed by Deputy Assistant Secretary for Professional and Cultural Exchanges Susan Crystal and Director of the Office of International Visitors Anne Grimes at the United States Institute of Peace. The guest speaker was Kyle Kondik, the managing editor of Sabato’s Crystal Ball.

The visitors went to Santa Fe and went to the downtown historical areas as well as a Spanish market.
