Taken at the meeting at the Hub for an evening of night street shooting down the Royal Mile. Our starting meetup point was outside the Hub.

I wanted to see what kind of hand held ex-jpeg street light portraits could be got from my 50mm at f2.8 (the widest aperture at which it has good pretentions to sharpness) and highest ISO. On this one I tried for good dark black detail in hat and coat and managed dynamic range a bit better.

Olympus is rather infamous for some pretty unawesome results at high ISO.

Playing with my new E-5. Its max ISO is 6400 and while pretty unimpressed on the back of the LCD screen, was not as bad as I feared once on the computer.

Still not awesome, and I wouldn't use ISO 6400, but anything below is much, much, better than in the previous E-x models :-)

No noise reduction applied, see next image for simple NR.

I just made that up. OK, so I lied in the last shot about that being the only one I liked from that photoshoot. This one was also shot at 800 iso. No edits to the color on this one, it's the way it turned out.

This is a great candidate for my new group Waterfall Critique. What do you like and what do you not like about this shot?

Small depth of field/aperture. It gives the picture a dreamy look.

All the right reasons to achieve this poor quality shot: Hazy evening , high iso, taken through thick dirty tinted glass and hand held with no image stabalisation.
