There were lots of black skimmers standing around on Cumberland Island, Georgia when we visited last year.
Waiheke Island is the second-largest island in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand. Since I last visited the island over 30 years ago winegrowing and wine tourism have really taken off. Winegrowers have successfully matched the maritime climate and ancient soil structures to the selection of classical grape varieties to produce quality red and white wines. The photo was taken after sunset and shows vines at the northeastern tip of Waiheke Island with the Hauraki Gulf beyond. The outer limits of the gulf are formed by Little Barrier Island on the left, Great Barrier Island in the centre and the tip of the Coromandel peninsula on the right.
Papageientaucher ...
Für mich einer der schönsten und süßesten Vögel die es gibt. Es macht spaß sie zu beobachten ;)
Bamburgh Castle was my 1st call today but had no breaks in cloud to light up the Castle so left and headed down the road to get this at a nearby beach of the Farne Islands
Lipari with its black beaches is of volcanic origin. In the background the island that carries this name: Vulcano. Together with other islands such as Stromboli they form the Aeolian Islands north of Sicily. Should I ever get shipwrecked and stranded on an island, let it be Lipari! Contre-jour.
The volcanic island is located 48 km off the coast. Captain Cook christened her at the cloud of steam that surrounded her. It is 324 ha large and originated from three other volcanoes. In 1953 it was put under protection of nature and is now private property. White Island is the summit of a submarine volcano and is located in New Zealand.

"You’ve been invited to the party of the year on a luxurious private island.
Excitement buzzes in the air as you and your friends gather at the pier, eagerly awaiting the ferry that will take you to a night of unforgettable festivities.
However, what starts as a night of anticipation quickly turns into a nightmare.
The ferry encounters a violent thunderstorm and begins to sink.
You awaken on the shores of an isolated island.
Disoriented, you realize this is not the luxurious paradise you were promised.
Instead, it’s a deserted, eerie place and you are in grave danger.
Will you find a way to escape or will you fall victim to the island’s insidious curse?"

Landing on a new island and exploring it on foot gives me immense joy. The photo was taken from a ridge on Waewaetorea Island looking north to Okahu Island and beyond with the open sea to the right, the Northland coast up to the Cavalli Islands in the middle and the northern limits of the Bay of Islands to the left.
This snowy egret in the foreground was perched, minding his own business when a great egret (in the background) swooped in and knocked him of his perch with a great squawk. Such drama!
Llanddwyn Island Lighthouse, Anglesey, North Wales.
I think I had the worst light and conditions here, I'm afraid, it looked so promising earlier on, a lovely spot non the less!
Bracing walk along island sandy beech to get here! Stay safe everyone.

Leros island, Greece, panoramic view looking south on a windy spring afternoon from the highest point of the island. This photo has been sitting in my panoramic outbox for almost a year, I didn't like the strong contrast and the hdr, anyway for better or worse, here it is. Back to single frame uploads tomorrow.
