This is the Iron Trunk Aqueduct, built in the early 1800s to carry what was then the Grand Junction Canal over the River Great Ouse outside Cosgrove.

The old wrought iron railway bridges which spanned the river Ouse at St-Ives.Sadly removed in august 2007 to make way for the (mis)guided bus and now replaced with a concrete one instead.

This was the St-Ives to Cambridge line and closed to passengers in 1970.The tracks were removed sometime in the mid 70's upto nearby Fen Drayton and from there on were used to haul locally extracted sand & gravel to London up until 1992.

UP THE IRONS!!!

A truly historic moment for Fortaleza! The greatest Metal band ever finally arrives in the city with their beautiful Ed Force One! Bringing in "The Book of Souls Tour" to Fortaleza, Mr. Bruce Dickinson arrived with style on their 747, just a few days after being completely fixed in Santiago, after an incident during a tow.

I was very lucky to be pretty close from the aircraft, it was amazing! A truly breathtaking moment as the mighty Jumbo taxied past us! The passenger terminal was chaotic, full of fans awaiting them and screaming a lot!

The mineral pyrite, or iron pyrite, also known as fool's gold, is an iron sulfide with the chemical formula FeS₂. Pyrite is the most abundant sulfide mineral. Pyrite's metallic luster and pale brass-yellow hue give it a superficial resemblance to gold, hence the well-known nickname of fool's gold.

First of a new series of Victorian HDR images around Shropshire.

Ironbridge is a settlement on the River Severn, at the heart of the Ironbridge Gorge, in Shropshire, England. It lies in the civil parish of The Gorge, in the borough of Telford and Wrekin. Ironbridge developed beside, and takes its name from, the famous Iron Bridge, a 30 metre (100 ft) cast iron bridge that was built across the river there in 1779. Considered to be the birthplace of the Industrial revolution, however many places around this area can lay claim to that, and I have explored them in this series..

Wrought iron and brick fence encircling the Edwin Johnson Homestead site just outside Maybell, Moffat County, Colorado.

Edwin C. Johnson served thirty four continuous years in public service to Colorado; Moffat and Routt County Legislator, Lt. Governor, three times elected Governor, and eighteen years as a United States Senator.

Ferne and Edwin Johnson erected this fence to preserve what was left of the home they built in 1910. This site is dedicated to all of the early homesteaders who helped settle Colorado.

Iridescence in a floating film of iron salts in Landmannalaugar, southern highlands, Iceland.

Iridescent films are often seen on the surface of stagnant pools in peat bogs. These floating films are formed by iron-precipitating bacteria that oxidize dissolved iron and produce insoluble iron salts. The phenomenon is called bog oil because of its resemblance to the oily iridescence of petroleum. In Icelandic, it is called járnbrák (iron slick).

Din Lligwy hut circle is an ancient village site near the east coast of Anglesey, close to the village of Moelfre, North Wales.

Despite the mainly Roman finds, the origins of the settlement may well go back into the Iron Age and it was probably a small farming community.

I have a love/hate relationship with ironing: I can't abide the way that it's obligatory--unless you only buy wool or clothes made of artificial fibres--but then sometimes, when chaos is closing in on you, it's an easy, routine way of restoring small pieces of order, smoothing away the entropy, flattening the fractals of disorder. The illusion of control, just from applying metal and steam to linen, turning crumple into crispness.
