One end of the iron hut is painted green. Here it catches the dying rays of the sun.

This is a tribute to the (failed) attempt by Lewis of Lewis and Clark to create a collapsible iron framed boat for their trip across the USA. This is located under the Martin Luther King bridge at Laclede’s Landing in Saint Louis, MO. USA on the Mississippi River front.

A pair of venerable C40-8s wearing the 15th anniversary paint scheme lead U730 north along the CN Missabe Sub.

That's gotta hurt or at least feel uncomfortable.

Watching this yellow headed black bird fly to multiple cattails and seeing him hit the same pose starts to make sense when you figure that their nests are at the base of these cattails.

It still looks awkward for me.

Macro Mondays - Details from My Neighbourhood. The 'Neighbourhood' is almost exclusively farmland and many of the old 18th Century Barns still exist, many with the original door latches.

This part of the abandoned iron Works in Lower Austria, founded in 1823, is right above the channel for the use of water power. In the rear cabin there seems to be another interesting machine, but I didn't take the risk of the unstable ground ;-)

Before the Kaiser Steel Mill closed in the 1980s, Southern Pacific hauled iron ore from Eagle Mountain, California, to the mill in Fontana west of San Bernardino. Kaiser's Eagle Mountain Railroad carried the ore from the mine 51 miles to an interchange with the SP at Ferrum, on the Salton Sea. The SP trains were very heavy and usually ran with two sets of helpers. At the time, SP's SD35s were regular power on these trains, although a GE would sneak in now and then. (This train had two.)

On April 5, 1971, a westbound ore train is leaving the siding at Thousand Palms with three units on the point, four units mid-train, and three ahead of the caboose, ten units total.

Constructive criticism always appreciated.

The Kennan local with IC 9571 and IC 3133 return from Largo to Kennan on a foggy morning on the Iron Range. Here, the pair of geeps head south through Iron Junction, Minnesota, on the CN Missabe Subdivision.

We received this painted iron box as a wedding gift. It is actually a work of art, but we use it to hold coins.

This is a close-up HDR photo of mid-day diagonal shadows on the bolts and iron bars and rust and weathering on an old train engine located at the Musquodoboit Harbour Railway Museum.

Now it is obvious why the term "rust belt" was invented. Here you see a couple of iron bridges crossing the Chicago River. The bridge in the foreground is still a functioning drawbridge (or "moveable bridge" as either term is appropriate for this type of bridge) while the bridge in the background has been in the "up" position for half a century or so. One doesn't want to be there when it tires of being "up" all the time.
