We went on the Los Angeles Museum of Neon Art tour last night, and it was fantastic. It is built around signage, but it is so much more than that. Anyone who loves LA needs to do this at least once. We started in downtown and made a pit stop in Chinatown before heading off to the theater district, out to Hollywood, down Fairfax and another pit stop at Canter's. Then back to downtown via Wilshire.
This is a picture of Sincere Importing in Chinatown. When we got there, the signs were turned off. Our guide asked the owner if she could turn them on, but she said she was trying to close, complaining that the neon tour always shows up when she's closing. I went in a few minutes later and adopted my most charming persona and asked if she could turn on the signs for just a minute. After some hemming and hawing, she finally asked, "Are you buying anything?!" Lucky for me, my mom was at the cash register at that very moment. She turned on the signs. :-)
There's not much left of Camp Hill's decaying downtown, and Kudzu is trying to swallow up the rest of it as 378 heads east for Columbus on a muggy summer afternoon.

Other features specially for the US-market were the side markers and reflectors.
