IMAX is a motion picture film format and projection standard created by Canada's IMAX Corporation. The traditional version of IMAX has the capacity to record and display images of far greater size and resolution than conventional film systems. A standard IMAX screen is 22 m × 16.1 m (72 ft × 53 ft), but can vary. The world's largest cinema screen and IMAX screen is in the LG IMAX theatre in Darling Harbour, New South Wales. It is approximately 8 stories high, with dimensions of 35.73 m × 29.42 m (117.2 ft × 96.5 ft) and covers an area of more than 1,015 m2 (10,930 sq ft).[1]
IMAX is the most widely used system for large-format, special-venue film presentations. As of April 2009[update], there are 320 IMAX theatres in 42 countries, with about half of these located in the United States. About 60% of IMAX venues are commercial theatres with the other 40% being located in educational venues.[citation needed]
Variations of the traditional IMAX format include IMAX 3D, IMAX Digital, and IMAX Dome (using a tilted dome screen and formerly called OmniMAX). Also available is IMAX MPX Theatre System, which defines standards for the conversion of a standard multiplex theater into an IMAX theater

Avatar is a 2009 American science fiction epic film written and directed by James Cameron and starring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang. The film is set in the year 2154, when humans are mining a precious mineral called unobtanium on the lush moon Pandora in the Alpha Centauri star system. The colonists' expansion threatens the continued existence of the Na'vi—a race of humanoids who are indigenous to Pandora—as well as the moon's ecosystem. The film's title refers to the genetically engineered Na'vi bodies used by several human characters to interact with the natives of Pandora.
Avatar was officially budgeted at $237 million. Other estimates put the cost at $280–310 million to produce and $150 million for marketing. The film was released for traditional two-dimensional projection, as well as in 3-D, using the RealD 3D, Dolby 3D, and IMAX 3D formats. The film was touted as a breakthrough in filmmaking technology, for its development of 3D viewing and stereoscopic filmmaking with cameras that were specially designed for the film's production.

Canada Place/Pan Pacific Hotel, Vancouver, B.C.-If you look closely you can see a man walking along the top of 2nd flag from the right. He had been up there washing the sails, but the wind and rain started to roll in.
A little about Canada Place from Wikipedia:
Canada Place is a building situated on the Burrard Inlet waterfront of Vancouver, British Columbia. It is the home of the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Pan Pacific Hotel, and an IMAX 3D theatre. It is also the main cruise ship terminal, where most of Vancouver's famous cruises to Alaska originate. It could be reached by taking a ride on the SkyTrain rapid transit system at its Waterfront Station subway terminus. The striking white sails of the building has made it a prominent landmark for the city, as well as drawing comparisons to the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia.

Its mascot is the animated filmstrip Clip. While it also has locations in Canada, within the United Kingdom, France, and Hong Kong the chain is known as AMC Cinemas. Within Spain the chain is known as AMC Cines.
Just before I saw the amazing Gravity on IMAX3D a visit to the Manchester Christmas market was a must.
