this was amazing. it was really hot out this particular day, so we took refuge by seeing Batman at the biggest theater in Thailand. the introduction to the movie had a laser projected animation with this face explaining how IMAX works. at one point the backlit the screen to show how tiny the holes were, and exposing the sound system behind it.
IMAX on Queen.
One of the most popular landmarks on Queen Street, Auckland. Few blocks away from my apartment. Been watching The Dark Knight twice here. The ticket for IMAX is NZD18.00, but it's worth since it's only NZD2.50 more expensive than the 'regular' cinema.
Another attempt on HDR. A bit overcooked I reckon but I did it purposely since I haven't tried any overcooked HDR before.
3 exposures HDR.
Convert to HDR using Photomatix -> Adjust the level -> Reduce the noise -> Smart sharpen
Took this photo at the weekend, when I developed it, it was very weak. I put some black tin (like you use for tin types) behind the negative and photographed the reversed image viewed in bright sunlight with my 1000d. Tweaked the colours up in GIMP. The film I was using was Rollei PAN 25 and it gives quite a brown negative when developed in Rollei RHS. I think this leads to the Green sky colour.
Just for future reference, ST was not shot in IMAX, and therefore is not a true imax film. imax is 65mm, 15-perf film, with an aspect ratio of 1:1.37 and a MASSIVE amount of image area, approximately 4x the size of VistaVision (VV is also the same format 35mm still cameras shoot, imagine a negative almost four times the surface area of one that was shot in your still camera.)
I highly recommend the IMAX film Train Time by Stephen Low. Gorgeously shot. Amazing vistas. It's a love-song for BNSF, but whatever. The chance to see 4449 steam around the west is not to be missed. I will upload a handful of screen pictures I got to wet the appetite.
Waiting for an IMAX show to begin, I was fascinated by the backlit hemisperical screen that you practically sit within. It felt like one was about to be caught in a giant spiderweb.
