The IMAX cinema is part of the Glasgow Science Centre, a visitor attraction located in the Clyde Waterfront Regeneration area on the south bank of the River Clyde.

The cinema opened in 1999, designed by Brian Avery. Initially operated by the British Film Institute, in 2012 it became an Odeon concession. In 2020 it is under threat of redevelopment.

this was amazing. it was really hot out this particular day, so we took refuge by seeing Batman at the biggest theater in Thailand. the introduction to the movie had a laser projected animation with this face explaining how IMAX works. at one point the backlit the screen to show how tiny the holes were, and exposing the sound system behind it.
