Modified Ikea desk for my iMac. All of the wires are hidden by holes covered with grommets which I drilled in the desk. The cables are concealed under the desk by a rain gutter which is screwed to the wall. The iMac is back lit with Ikea LED lights.
For a long time I was really against having any sort of tech (especially computers) in my bedroom. This, because frosh year in university, my very loud Alienware PC was literally a few feet from my bed in my dorm and though it didn't bother me much then, it started to become a bother when 2 computers turned into 4, 4 turned into 4 + 4 servers, etc.
When I started living off campus, the same problem persisted, except now all my tech crap occupied what should otherwise be (idealistically) a minimalist & contemporary living room. This, because I like to sleep in complete silence and darkness (think: quiet as a grave). Now that I have a number of extra bedrooms, all of the routers, switches, servers, etc occupy their own air-conditioned room. I wanted to watch DVDs in bed and NOT use my laptop for that, so the 24" iMac streaming music and other media from my servers seemed like a great fit. That, and it serves as an excellent SSH tunnel and a GREAT platform for Vista/Ubuntu using VMWare Fusion.
I've been using Macs since OS 7 and got one of the first Titanium Powerbooks and first iPods when they came out. Then, the rampant Apple fanboys sort of sullied the good name and I've sort of stayed away until now...
Specs are: iMac 24", 2.8ghz Intel C2D, 500gb HD, 4gb RAM.
This iMac streams over 5TB of music/movies from over the network from these guys
I got hold of this for free, just for a bit of fun. It's a 333mhz slot-loading G3 iMac, running Panther. I've got it connecting wirelessly to my network (including my AppleTalk-enabled network server).
This is my first Macintosh computer, an iMac DV from the year 2001. I still have fond memories of when I first got it. A few years ago, the computer broke down – not irrepairably, but I had moved on to a second-hand Titanium Powerbook, and thence to my current iBook.
Instead of throwing out the old iMac, my wife and I decided to make an aquarium out of it, as we'd seen reported many times on various websites. It's taken a few weeks – gutting the internal components, getting an acrylic tank custom-made to the internal dimensions, sealing the tank, and printing the taskbar, dock, icons and (if you look really carefully) the mouse cursor, but the iMac aquarium is finally complete.
Now we just have to buy a fish ...
iMac is already in Berlin, arrived here at 9:06 in the morning. Hope they don't leave it in the cold (-8 C°). Route thus far: Shanghai, Arnhem (Netherland), Berlin.
My new iMac. A 24" 2.4GHz beastie with a 4GB RAM upgrade. This is in preperation for the MacBook Air which I will be getting soon. The plan is that now Apple (finally) have a "sub-notebook" I can carry something lighter with me, properly synced with Leopard and .Mac to my more powerful, larger, always on desktop.
Best of both worlds!
