This an old setup of mine, but it's by far my favorite. It hasn't changed much since then, however. A new desk, the Apple wireless keyboard and Mighty Mouse, an Intuos3 9x12, a few more speakers, a new mousepad, etc.
My camera's photo quality seems to be getting worse by the day, so I feel I should hold off posting a current setup, until I can get my hands on a good camera.
This is s a rare prototype of the famous iMac G3 Graphite computer with transparent plastics.
Installed is a mock or dummy" CRT made of plastic, not glass. Note that the analog/power supply board is un-populated.
when i was visiting friends, i brought my imac along, so that
we could make a little photoshoot with our babies.
these crazy dudes even built their own apple logo...
(so that they know where to put the apple gear, i guess)
The spring assembly at bottom is from the neck of a 17" iMac G4. When assembled, it is under about 150 - 200 pounds of tension.
I was given one of these iMacs with a non-working neck, so I had to replace the spring assembly.
The device above is a tool I made to reassemble the neck spring assembly. It may not be pretty or reliable, but it worked, and it wasn't intended to be used more than once (although I kept it, just in case).
With Tuesdays announcement I was so disappointed with what Apple had done to the iMac line, specifically the 21.5'' model, I went out and bought the previous generation from Stormfront in York.
The new 2012 21.5'' model has been made substantially worse. It has a much slower 5400RPM hard drive, no user upgradable ram, but the biggest nail in the coffin for me was the lack of an optical drive. Apple also had the cheek to charge £99 more for the new one over the previous model. I shoot wedding photography and am currently in the process of archiving old family VHS tapes onto DVD so an optical drive is a must, the lack of FireWire on the new ones is also a bit annoying. I know you can buy an external optical disk drive and thunderbolt firewire adaptor, but why should I even need to? Especially for a desktop machine, making it thin is as pointless as a chocolate fireguard.
The iMac I went for was the basic spec 2.5Ghz and its a million times faster than the old 2.53Ghz C2D in my MBP. I'm intending soon to put in 32GB RAM and i'll be all set. Maybe a external thunderbolt drive when costs come down too.
My new iMac 2012
Intel Core i7 3.4Ghz
32GB Ram
Geforce GTX 680MX
3TB Fusion Drive
Beautifull and powerfull machine.
I bought a 24" iMac for a friend - he paid for it and had it shipped to my place. Ever since I've readied it for him by adding RAM and installing a couple of apps, he has constantly put off having me deliver it to his place.
It's his first computer and I sense he is a bit apprehensive about having one in his house. Kind of odd if you ask me. So until he musters up enough chutzpah, I'm using it my bedroom to watch movies and surf the internet. It sure beats the 19" Viewsonic TV we normally use in our bedroom.
