Slightly edited in pixelmator pro, I believe that I didn't adjust anything I couldn't adjust in a darkroom (a bit more contrast and vignetting).

from their roosts in the trees
doves are calling
in the stone pen
further up the hill
a rooster crows
somewhere else
a dog barks
i hear a faint chorus of crickets
the thin straw mattress shifts beneath my weight
a soft breeze passes through
the bamboo screen that forms one wall
of the cottage where i am sleeping
at first i wonder where i am
i sit up and put my feet down into my boots
and stumble out into the blue morning light
i gaze up at the ridge line
on the opposite side of the canyon
at the two eucalyptus trees
which mark the entrance to the trail
that descends steeply down into the canyon
i walk stiffly down the dirt path to the lodge
where our companions from the night before
are assembling for a pancake breakfast
soon they will be on their way
and though i doubt we’ll see each other again
i am heartened by the knowledge
of fellow travelers
walking these ancient paths

A huge welcome to Daphne Schnitzer, past 5 Frames With contributor here on EMULSIVE and pinhole aficionado. She does also use lensed cameras now and again but if you’re in for the beauty of painterly landscape photography, you’re in for a treat.
Over to you, Daphne!
