Friday, June 3 I hiked the Letchworth State Park trail 1 end-to-end with a loop back. It was a beautiful day for hiking - a few clouds and high about 75F. I took lots of photographs with the Olympus OM2 and Ilford HP5. Gaia GPS said 15.1 miles for the entire trip, which makes me think trail 1 is longer than the published 7 miles. The Saint Helena area has three levels. Just down from the park road in the Saint Helena shelter and picnic area. I parked there and sat at one of the tables for my morning reading and prayers. I took this photograph as I was getting ready to head out. I am looking across the river gorge to the east rim.

Further down is another large picnic area. From there you can follow the old roads down to the two river access points shown in my posts from the past few days. The old town of Saint Helena was on the flats at the by the river.

I parked by the start of the yellow ski trail, followed it all the way around then down the west side of Durand Lake and over the ridge to the start of the Eastman Lake trail. I followed it along the east side of Eastman Lake then back along the west side to return to the car in the deepening dusk.

There are two primary overlooks for the Hogsback on the west side of the gorge. The trail follows the rim on around. This view from the south overlook is the reverse of the first photo below from the north overlook. (The Genesee River flows south to north, emptying into Lake Ontario at Rochester.)

Milady dropped me off at the dam overlook then drove down to Hogsback to read a book.

107 steps later, looking up at a tree reaching out from just below the large open area visible in the previous photograph.

Wednesday, July 13 I got back to the Letchworth State Park Lower Falls area, which was still closed off when I hiked trail 1 in early June. I drove through rain showers on my way there but had no rain after I started walking. It was still overcast at the beginning of my walk with beautiful subdued lighting at the beginning and bright sun later on.

Milady and I decided to go for a jaunt. We stopped at Wagner Brewing and Vineyards. They do excellent work on both sides of the house. I got a flight while Corky checked out the wines.

As the weather warms, those big doors will open up, making the whole room and extension of the deck overlooking Seneca Lake.

With the Genesee River swelled by the melting snow. I was standing a couple hundred yards from the Glen Iris fountain.

You can't see it in the black and white, but the water had a definite brown tint.

The overlook path below me was still closed. All the caution signs in the world won't keep folks from sitting and standing on the walls. It would be treacherously easy to fall with the snow and ice.

The Seabreeze Water Tower has been a camera magnet for me over the years. It was a big, bright, red and white checkerboard when the folks moved us into the Rochester area in 1958. Now it is a quite lovely, and much less obtrusive, sky blue. But I really liked the checkerboard.

The Argus and I went for a late afternoon walk around the neighborhood. It was a lovely time for light and shadow.

Why do I keep taking pictures of places I have photographed before?

Because they are never quite the same.

The Finger Lakes Trail fingerlakestrail.org/ runs east-west through the southern Finger Lakes region in New York. The Letchworth branch of about 23 miles runs north-south along the east side of the gorge. The north end of the branch enters the park from the highway just west of the river, quickly crossing to the east side via a foot bridge. I did an up-and-back hike a week ago from the little dam to the big dam.

A few days before Labor Day I walked down to the Irondequoit Bay outlet. We had high clouds and bright sun. The Irondequoit Bay Marine Park begins near the top of the hill and stretches from the highway right-of-way on the left across to the treeline on the right and down to the bay. I was in the mood for taking pictures.

I shorted the development time by a minute to keep from blowing out the highlights.

This was the last frame on the previous roll. I loaded another and shot most of it.

My son @Spielorjh plays Tuesday Tunes with an Irish group at one Irish tavern and sometimes elsewhere. This was a Sunday afternoon at Johnny's Irish Pub. Lanse played his banjo while one of his cohorts was on the hammered dulcimer. I could listen to them for hours.

Just upriver from the Mount Morris flood control dam. This area is in a constant state of cleanup. In the lower right you can see the log boom that stretches across the valley. Especially during spring melt-off it catches a lot of the fallen trees and other debris that gets swept down the river.
