Common Blue butterfly showing underwings

Ignore the Exif data, this shot was done with Pentacon 3.5/30 at F 5.6.

The winter sunset reflected on the lake manages to make brown an interesting color.

I miss light on water.

I could never be a dancer.

I keep skipping pictures because of my hands. They're either blurry or upright bizarrely placed. I'm just. Sigh. Hands. Today. Hands.

The striking example of deviation from a wild type under artificial selection provided by the Shirley poppy attracted the attention of pioneer geneticists and biometricians. The biometrician Karl Pearson used the Shirley poppy to study his ideas of homotyposis, which he defined as “the quantitative degree of resemblance to be found on the average between the like parts of organisms”.[1][2] However Pearson's work on Shirley poppy was ridiculed by the pioneer geneticist William Bateson for ignoring the recently discovered analytical methods of Mendelian genetics.

Several "good" birds at Rondeau today including summer tanager and yellow-headed blackbird.

Chose this red-winged blackbird for todays post. Really like the flash of his badges. The female completely ignored him.

Agelaius phoeniceus

Different populations and subspecies of Red-winged Blackbirds vary markedly in size and proportions. An experiment was conducted that moved nestlings between populations and found that the chicks grew up to resemble their foster parents. This study indicated that much of the difference seen between populations is the result of different environments rather than different genetic makeups.

".....no matter how hard I try to get you birds to sing like a canary all I get is honks and grunts!"

....as hard as he tried to organize a protest march against the New Orleans Pelicans for their politically incorrect use of the name, George's words of protest just seem to fall on the indifferent deaf ears of the crowd.

".....I'm telling you guys, don't eat the mackerel, I hear it's full of mercury!"

".....Lou choked on a fish, musta' been this big!"

It's a (rather dishevelled) Muscovy duck (Cairina moschata).

I love lizards, and where we live they are plentiful. You have to be a good spotter to see them a lot of times because blending in is one of their greatest talents! I really like this guy's toes and the way he is hanging on and pretending to ignore me. One false move and he could bolt! Hugs and Thanks for viewing! =o)

Another shot from our recent trip to the coast. I've lived my entire life in Oklahoma and it's home but, as I've said before, the ocean with it's textures and sounds is like medicine to me. It calms and refreshes me like no other.

Textures a combination by Kerstin Frank and PicMonkey.

Another typical scene in small, incorporated towns in rural Indiana is a property with an array of junk vehicles. These small town junkyards, usually with weeds growing high and trash everywhere, are often ignored by local leaders, either due to limited enforcement capabilities due to no zoning laws, or an unwillingness to enforce existing laws that prohibit the junkyards. Surrounding property values are diminished, rodents become a regular issue, and the quiet rural catastrophe begins to gather more and more steam.

I'm used to being ignored. Some people will often blithley walk into a scene when its quite obvious that I'm composing a picture. That's OK, though! The end result is often more interesting with a person for perspective - as it was in this image with a very pleasant lady, who was totally absorbed in checking out the many features of a heritage home during a Doors Open event.

At the start of the long walk to the famous Wistman's Woods, there is a beautiful row of trees that you past. I positioned myself up against the beautiful stone wall and captured this seven shot panoramic.

With the Nelson photos now completed (Well, there might be one or two stragglers posted later!), we return to the Waiwhetu Stream, which - you might recall - was "featured" on this Site a month or so ago. You might also recall that Volunteers have spent hundreds of hours clearing the stream of choking weed, whilst over $5,000,000 has been spent clearing the toxic mess the stream has had to carry for many, many years...

Having already featured this invigorated waterway, we'll now feature some of the Birds that have started to make the stream their Home...

First up is this "Black Beauty" - one of two Black Swans who paddled quietly but confidently up the stream as we sat in the Autumn sun and admired what is now a very pretty little waterway.

The Swans ignored us completely, preferring instead to concentrate on feeding from the native grasses now growing on the stream floor - and a piece of those grasses is hanging from this bird's mouth! (Can anyone offer it a serviette?!?).

Ignore & Does

Ignore the exif date and time ,. it's one from a while back, I lost the data somewhere in editing and saving.

The youngsters seem to spend all of their waking hours 'peeping' at their parents for food - and mum and dad just ignore them!

In pursuit of my lifelong goals of getting closer to natural surroundings and improving my general human condition, I bought an overpriced house with property on the Olympic Peninsula. I moved, and I'm selling my house in the city. Not sure what I am actually improving in the short term, certainly not the overvalued real estate market. Hoping that's temporary. It's been an incredibly stressful few months, I haven't been able to do much else, and I can see no end in the foreseeable future.

One of the better situations in this scenario, though, is having all this new blank wall space with high ceilings to hang big prints!

In the process of moving I found a lot of material I have not chosen to do really anything with before, including a small test print of this detail of Mineral Creek in the Hoh Rainforest that I took back in 2010. Never thought much of it before, but it now strikes me as perfect to blow up real big with thin borders to showcase on a certain big wall in my new house. Fits perfect with the forested locale. Surprising sometimes how old stuff I ignored in the past can fit just right with an unforseen new application. For interior design, the stunning, grand sunset landscapes that look so great on websites and in publications don't always work like I think they will when I get them up on the wall. Simple, minimalist compositions, extracting and isolating patterns and details in nature, then emphasizing with the huge print treatment tends to work really well, especially when the subject matter is harmonious with the local area, helping bring a little of the outside indoors. I can almost smell and taste the misty, wet hanging from the lush moss edging this cascading creek.

Driving in to Camp Champions you encounter several amusing sings along the way, this one read “Ignore This Sign.”

Took the kids to a YMCA Adventure Guides camp out at Camp Champions (http://www.campchampions.com/) near Marble Falls, TX and took a few photos at the facility while I was there.

Please ignore my weird facial expression...

I've been tagged a lot recently, so here are my ten things:

1. I’m really allergic to my dog, he bothers my asthma and I can’t be around him a lot. Which is frustrating, because he is really cute.

2. I’m going to New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Virginia to look at colleges in August, and I’m really excited:)

3. I’m going to start selling prints soon, because I didn’t get a job this summer and I could really use some money, even a little bit.

4. I’ve had insomnia since I was very little. I’ve come to enjoy the hours I get to myself at night, when I can’t sleep.

5. I have a really big piano recital this weekend. I’ve played the song before for a judge, and I did really well, but suddenly I just can’t seem to play it right any more.

6. There is nothing more revolting than broccoli. But cheetos come in a very close second.

7. I watched the first official trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows yesterday. It was the definition of epic.

8. I’ve mentioned Harry Potter in each of my lists so far. That is because nothing is cooler than Harry Potter.

9. I’m re-watching My Fair Lady with my mom right now. Such a great musical.

10. I get lost very, very, very easily. I’m finally getting a gps this weekend.

Just wanted to say a few things,

school started last week. Already really busy and will be for a while. My schedule is a little insane.

But! I am starting a massive series, I already have a few pictures. They arent exactly super cool or anything, but I think the series will be amazing as a whole.
