Le sommet enneigé du Cervin (Matterhorn), Zermatt, Suisse.
Une vue à partir du pont Kirchbrücke, qui traverse la rivière Vespa près de l'hôtel Antika. Ce pont s'avère le site idéal pour photographier le Cervin ou Matterhorn, de jour comme de nuit.
Haut de 4478 m, le Cervin n'est pas le plus haut sommet de Suisse mais, par sa forme très caractéristique, le plus majestueux. Cette forme est à l’origine de la forme de la barre de chocolat de la Toblerone.
Tomorrow, the Olympic Winter Games 2022 in Beijing will be opened. There has been a lot of discussion about the meaningfulness of this event, being held in times of pandemic, in an autocratic country that tramples human rights underfoot, and in the presence of a threat of war between Russia and Ukraine.
Olympic ideals and values seem to apply to athletes only, the main purpose is about big money and state propaganda.
Is the Olympic idea starting to starting to dissolve - as the 5 rings in this image do... ?

A shot from Coigach taken while fishing for Pollock. These beautiful clouds started forming and lit up the sky over Stac Pollaidh and Cul Mor. I also caught lots of fish, so a brilliant evening all around. The Ideal Height is a track by Biffy Clyro, and is fine.

The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is located in London, England. It is commonly called the Houses of Parliament after the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two legislative chambers which occupy the building. The palace has been a Grade I listed building since 1970 and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
The site of the current palace may have been used by Cnut during his reign from 1016 to 1035, and from c. 1045 – c. 1050 Edward the Confessor built a palace and the first Westminster Abbey. The oldest surviving part of the palace is Westminster Hall, which dates from the reign of William II (r. 1087–1100).
The building was originally constructed in the eleventh century as a royal palace and was the primary residence of the kings of England until 1512, when a fire destroyed the royal apartments. The monarch moved to the adjacent Palace of Whitehall, but the remainder of the palace continued to serve as the home of the Parliament of England, which had met there since the 13th century. In 1834 a second, larger fire destroyed the majority of the palace, but Westminster Hall was saved and incorporated into the replacement building.
The competition to design the new palace was won by the architect Charles Barry, who chose a Gothic Revival style for the building. Construction started in 1840 and lasted for 30 years, suffering delays, cost overruns, and the deaths of Barry and his assistant, Augustus Pugin. The palace contains chambers for the House of Commons, House of Lords, and the monarch, and has a floor area of 112,476 m2 (1,210,680 sq ft). Extensive repairs had to be made after the Second World War, including rebuilding the destroyed Commons chamber. Despite further conservation work having been carried out since, the palace is in urgent need of major repairs.

In 2012, the Houses of Commons and Lords commissioned a study on the condition of the palace, which indicated the need for major restoration work. The current sewage system was installed in 1888; there are more than 1,000 areas that contain asbestos; the chambers are not wheelchair accessible; and even rodents populate the place. Part of the building’s mechanical and electrical systems were installed after World War Two and should have been replaced in the 1980s but were not. Over the years, steam, gas and water services were built on top of each other and next to high-voltage electrical wires. And about 321km of telephone, broadcasting and sound wires need to be upgraded.
The Anston limestone used in the original construction, which was cheap and ideal for carving, began to quickly decay in the 19th Century and was only partially restored in the 1980s and ‘90s. On top of all of that, Barry and Pugin used combustible materials to decorate the palace’s interiors.

When you wake up to a scene like this, its hard not to have lots of energy. This little lake adjoins the Two Medicine Lake on the eastern edge of Glacier National park in MT.
Literally set among the suggestive rocks of the Lucanian Dolomites , Castelmezzano , in the province of Potenza , is one of the most precious jewels of Basilicata . Its perched houses reminiscent of a crib , the rugged peaks that frame it, the small alleys and stairways that run through it offer enchanting views that truly conquer everyone and give off the perfect atmosphere for a weekend of high romance . The splendid location would be enough to make the resort an ideal destination for an extremely pleasant couple's stay , but in reality Castelmezzano has much more to offer visitors in search of a romantic atmosphere.
The emotion begins to grow already along the way when, after crossing a spectacular gorge , you find yourself walking along a tunnel dug into the rock , at the exit of which the view of the village clinging to the Lucanian Dolomites reaches straight to the heart, giving you immediately the impression of being in the right place with the right person. The shapes of the rocky peaks and their play of lights and shadows explain their evocative names, ranging from "beak of vicetta" to "lion's mouth" up to "anvil" and " golden eagle" , while the historic center with its typically medieval structure, enchants with the beauty of its houses wedged between the rocks and surmounted by roofs in sandstone slabs . Walking along the narrow alleys of the historic center and climbing the small stairways, you reach magnificent panoramic points from which to enjoy a splendid view of the surrounding landscapes , in a continuous interaction between urbanized views and natural sceneries that have earned the town the nickname of the city - nature .
Furthermore, Castelmezzano is included in the list of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy and, admiring the artistic and architectural treasures that it holds, immediately explains why. Piazza Caizzo with the splendid mother church of Santa Maria dell'Olmo is only the beginning of a magnificent itinerary dedicated to history and beauty. Walking along the main street of the town , with the Town Hall building to adorn it, you reach the ruins of the castle and, entering the streets of the center, you discover other precious buildings ranging from the elegant Palazzo Ducale to Palazzo Coiro . Going outside the town and exploring the surroundings, you will discover other enchanting surprises. The ancient mills with roofs made of local chiang chimate stone slabs dot the Caperrino valley crossed by picturesque buildings, stairways and bridges , while vestiges of distant eras peep out among the uncontaminated scenery of the Gallipoli Cognato Piccole Dolomiti Park .

En los arquitrabes hay hermosas representaciones de los Meses. En la luneta San Zeno recibe el homenaje de la ciudad.

With the Ideal Standard works dominating the canal side scene at Armitage 66415 pops out from behind the line side foliage with 4M81 Felixstowe North to Crewe Basford Hall.
ex-Santa Fe C44-9W 647, the last of it's kind not in storage, leads an empty phosphate train to the CSX under the Ideal Rd overpass west of Milledgeville, IL. I had already taken the day off and this was a great start to the day in pursuit of searchlights along the Mississippi River - another dying breed.

A great view from the top of Pen y Fan in the Brecon Beacons of an imminent snow shower approaching. The beautiful lines and curves of these ridges makes up for any lack of rocky cliffs. I love the wintry feel of this one, and the Ideal Height by Biffy Clyro is perfect as in the hills the ideal height is at the top looking down.
