His name is Hunter and he was just told to W-A-I-T...they would be back soon to hunt Pheasants. He was trying so hard to be patient!

The supply situation at the front was not good, and the German soldiers had to be resourceful in organizing food, but they did not have to eat cats.

Out with the dogs in the nature reserve to see if we can find the Chupacabra like red fox in daylight.

We met him late last night, but we all fled in different directions.

This one is big. Almost German Shepherd size.

Lucky to get this shot as it was just far enough away for my lens to focus. Had to shoot wide open to get a reasonable ISO due to heavy shadows (ended up at ISO 1600) managed 3 shots as he ran across the bridge - the other two focused on its nose and on its chest - almost perfect but with such a tight DOF I was lucky that this one hit its eye perfectly :)

Locked on to Vernon, you can almost see this Kestrel's mouth watering. At this point Vernon was still around. Portland, Dorset.

Heron on the hunt

A good show from the owls tonight.

A minor god in Greek mythology, attested mainly by Athenian writers, Aristaeus was the culture hero credited with the discovery of many useful arts, including bee-keeping; he was the son of the huntress Cyrene and Apollo.

Aristeus ("the best") was a cult title in many places: Boeotia, Arcadia, Ceos, Sicily, Sardinia, Thessaly, and Macedonia; consequently a set of "travels" was imposed, connecting his epiphanies in order to account for these widespread manifestations.

If Aristaeus was a minor figure at Athens, he was more prominent in Boeotia, where he was "the pastoral Apollo", and was linked to the founding myth of Thebes by marriage with Autonoë, daughter of Cadmus, the founder. Aristaeus may appear as a winged youth in painted Boeotian pottery, similar to representations of the Boreads, spirits of the North Wind. Besides Actaeon and Macris, he also was said to have fathered Charmus and Callicarpus in Sardinia.

Pindar's account

According to Pindar's ninth Pythian Ode and Apollonius' Argonautica (II.522ff), Cyrene despised spinning and other womanly arts and instead spent her days hunting and shepherding, but, in a prophecy he put in the mouth of the wise centaur Chiron, Apollo would spirit her to Libya and make her the foundress of a great city, Cyrene, in a fertile coastal plain. When Aristaeus was born, according to what Pindar sang, Hermes took him to be raised on nectar and ambrosia and to be made immortal by Gaia (Wikipedia).

Quite a bit of action last night with 3 owls out hunting at the same time so very hard to whittle out these from the loads I took. Excuse some the noise but some are at ISO12,800.

Wonderfull Bohemian engraved red on amber Egermann glass. Hunting scenes on three panels with Game bird, Leaping Stag and upright Stag. Three slice cuts seperating scenes with scalloped lip and base. The engraving of the bird and deer is quite deeply cut into the amber glass.

The Red flash surface is cut through by engraving to reveal the amber glass beneath. Mint condition, looks to have been stored and not used..

Not seen one like this despite combing the web, anyone know about this beaker? Though similar glasses are around, not found one like this. Rather scarce I think.

Taking lens Fujinon 55mm f1.8 M42.

While I looked for snakes and the rain lashed down, Moltrecht's treefrogs (Rhacophorus moltrechti) happily serenaded each other about me. Whenever I'm struggling to find a snake, it's good to investigate a couple of old plastic tubs where they breed, as there's often a viper or two looking for supper here. This is the even more common green bamboo tree viper (Viridovipera stejnegeri).

A slight difference to a shot I took previously. Bit more focus on his face
