Erica Benavides of the San Antonio Food Bank describes the growing demand on the SAFB over the last year. Erica shared the powerful story about how she became interested in hunger. One morning when she dropped into anelementary school nurse's office, there was a line of children complaining of stomach and head aches. When Erica responded that she would come back later because she didn't want to get the flu, the nurse replied, "They don't have the flu, they didn't get enough to eat this weekend so are experiencing hunger pains."

Hunger (by Lisa) "Precious food of life" (by Wendy.)
Week 2. We shared a "meal" together. A metaphorical meal, that started by each person creating an image/metaphor to represent hunger (in a kind of sacramental way). We then passed our image to the right, and the person next to us created an image of "The precious food of life" (from a Julian of Norwich quote). We contemplated the idea that we might be able to help each other satisfy metaphorical "hunger".
