"The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins

When "Mockingjay" was released in the early spring, I heard about this series. I was curious, but thought it was geared toward a much younger audience. A friend loaned it to me last weekend, and when I finally picked it up, I couldn't put it back down again! Yes, it's geared towards 7th grade and up, but I found it an amazing read. It really makes you question what you would be able to do if you were put in Katniss's shoes. This was one of my favorite quotes from the story in chapter 16- "In our world, I rank music somewhere between hair ribbons and rainbows in terms of usefulness." Another from chapter 27 is "I stare in the mirror and try to remember who I am and who I am not."

To celebrate the opening of the movie, the library hosted a Hunger Games Party for the kids! They got a chance to make t-shirts to wear to the premiere, practice their camouflaging by putting face paint on each other, and train like Katniss with a PVC bow. The culmination of the party's activities was a specially designed Hunger Games tournament for the kids as the tributes and only one winner.

Hunger is a sensation that motivates the consumption of food.

The sensation of hunger typically manifests after only a few hours without eating and is generally considered to be unpleasant.

Children love pancakes, sweet food, cakes, but also Red cabbage (BRAINFOOD?) and seafood: ALWAYS, yum.

Have a beautiful day and thank you for your comments, M, (*_*)

Another one I took in London. I keep finding photos I have forgotten about. This is a hunger strike to bring troops home from Afghanistan.I remember seeing this and thinking "wow, thats powerful". So I took so quick photos. Crazy what people do to stand up for what they believe in. Good for them.

Inspiration for this came from a picture in a hairstyle magazine (good source for faces!!).

The model looked very gaunt and I thought she'd make a great vampyre!!

Some photoshop (well, GIMP) fun. The starting point was a photo, I was given of Anna by Anna. I changed her to a participant in Hunger Games using a fish-eye forest photo, I took summer 2012.

Thats not a smile. We're hungry and he's holding the menu.
