As part of the exhibition BEING , Storefront presented DISRUPT: Croquembouches, an installation-banquet on the connections and connotations between Food and Architecture. The event follow a day-long installation by Savinien Carcostea, which included an 9-foot tall cone of Croquembouches, a traditional French dessert, that was on display at Storefront's gallery throughout the day and offered to visitors in the evening.
7,000 Croquembouches were available for consumption.

When there's thousands of a single species competing for sustenance in a small area, a fact of life is that some just don't make it.
This April I will be participating in a 30 hour famine to help raise awareness and funds for children all over the world dying of hunger.
Every 7 seconds a child dies from hunger! This fact coupled with the fact that they can be fed for 1 dollar a day is almost too much to bear.

The Irish Hunger Memorial (artist Brian Tolle) is a unique green monument in Battery Park City. It commemorates the famine of 1845-52, and the subsequent exodus from Ireland to the New World. The plants, stones, and cottage found in the memorial are all from Ireland. Apologies for the rather grey photo, but the weather was being somewhat authentic for Ireland while I was there.

A caravan of Hunger March trucks and autos from New York and New England entered the city via Bladensburg Road and set up an encampment beside New York Avenue December 4, 1932.
The second Hunger March sponsored by the Unemployed Councils found a slightly more favorable reception than the previous march after the rout of President Herbert Hoover and the Republicans in the election of 1932. Elected leaders or their designees met with delegations of the marchers and many visited their camp.
A government relief system had broad and sweeping support among the population with Wisconsin passing legislation in 1932, followed by California, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Utah and Washington before the federal act passed in 1935.

The "Irish Hunger Memorial" provides a "connection" between Ireland and New York City. It honors the memory of those who died in the "Great Irish Famine" of 1845-1852. The location of this memorial, in Lower Manhattan, gives it an added poignancy. The "Irish Hunger Memorial" was dedicated in 2002, soon after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack.

Hunger and malnutrition in India is a major concern. According to statistics, India is home to 24% of world’s malnourished population. Children get most affected by this as it hampers their mental and physical growth. NGOs in India work with the help of monetary donations and try to provide every child with proper food so that he/she can have a well nourished childhood.https://bit.ly/2OvEfsA
