Something spotted on the streets of London!
It's my daughter's Birthday this weekend, so it's off to Bristol for a bit of retail therapy and noodles for lunch!
One of the busiest weeks in a long time, so Alison Moyet in concert on Saturday, Paloma Faith in concert on Tuesday complete with a 42 piece orchestra/jazz band and finally saw the Vienna Festival Ballet perform Swan Lake on Thursday. Great fun, exhausting, but worth it! Will catch up with everyone as soon as I can....

Located in NYC near Battery Park. The Irish Hunger Memorial (or Irish Famine Memorial), the creation of artist Brian Tolle, landscape artist Gail Wittwer-Laird, and 1100 Architect, is devoted to raising public awareness of the events that led to the "Great Irish Famine and Migration" of 1845-1852.
This stained glass window in the stadhuis (town hall) commemorates assistance given by reidents of Alkmaar to those who were starving during the final winter ("The Hunger Winter') of World War II.

Cattle and Pig Breeding as a source of income for the farmers in the region of Kurpie Białe - (Project #27-0635-01-1). Active project. Small-scale farms dominate the communities in the Kurpie Białe region. The soil is atypical in that it is very sandy and the area is prone to flooding. As in other rural regions in Poland, Kurpie Białe was negatively impacted by the economic transition in the country. Income for small farmers has dropped drastically. Heifer’s project focuses on restoring Zlotnicka Biala, a native pig breed that has almost died out in the region, and also Simmental cattle. With the lack of industry in the region, it is hoped that project participants on small farms will revitalize their conditions with these animals. Simmental cattle produces good quality meat and milk for family consumption and surplus is intended for generating income. All of the project participants have and will receive training on animal breeding, organic farming, and environmental production. Oats and alfalfa seeds are provided by HPI to plant for animal fodder.
Dance Village, Poland — Zdzislew Baj (55) and his family, consisting of his wife and three grown daughters received their mare from Heifer International in March-April 2007. The Polish breed horse (pictured) is named “Kracja” (meaning “Creation”) and is about to have its 3rd offspring. This breed is known to be very calm, very friendly. “There are floods here in the Spring and in the winter there is snow, so we use her to get to the store,” he says of his draft horse. They will Pass-On a draft horse in November -December 2011. “You can’t dislike horses. They are animals you have to love,” said Zdzislew. This year there will be a total of 5 new POG families. Horses like “Kracja” are universal; they can work in the fields, pull a wagon, or even be ridden horseback.

In May 2010, the village had its first Pass On ceremony. Initially, in 2007 when the project began, 10 horses were passed on in the first round. 7 in the second round. For the most part, the horses are used for farming draft power and for hauling materials and produce to market.

A look at the donated food being sorted inside the Maryland Food Bank during Hunger Action Month - September 2014.
A true fresco -- painted directly onto wet plaster in 1933 -- Hunger March looks like a collage of newspaper photos featuring black and white Americans sleeping on floors, marching, and being beaten by police during Depression-era protests. The artist, Lewis Rubenstein, had recently graduated from Harvard, He painted it on a wall of the very museum it's displayed in, Harvard's Fogg Museum. The Fogg was recently rebuilt and reconfigured as the Harvard Art Museums. During construction the wall the fresco was painted on was taken down and then re-installed -- including the original I-beam it had been positioned under.

Well, since her surgery on Monday, she's been eating hardly anything. Tonight, at dinnertime, it clicked in! "Take me to a restaurant!"
Ruby Tuesdays it was! And, boy, did she eat! The waiter was so impressed, (and moved by her story), that he bought her dessert.
It was good to see her eat.

This poignant shot was captured (some time back) in the slums of the so called IT-Capital, Silicon valley of Asia, Garden City, and what not....Bangalore. With all those unwanted IT development, the human beings are still in the state of disdain. Two meals a day is something which people are striving hard to get.
I was walking home after a tiring swim in Sport Authority of India. I passed through a slum and my eyes fell on these kids who were having their meals outside their hut. These kids were so delighted to have this bowl of rice that it brought smile on their face. Hunger is the worst enemy to mankind.
