Female black-chinned hummingbird seen in Montell, Tx.

This Ruby-throated Hummingbird male was coming to this Prickly Pear Cactus flower about every thirty minutes or so to feed. I stayed at this location longer than I normally would, hoping for something good. Finally, he gave me a split second to capture this image as he came out of the flower. The shot I had waited hours for, only took one thirty two hundredths of a second to capture.

After drinking its fill, off it went! I could have used just a bit faster shutter speed but the wing detail is fairly good. Of course I happened to catch the wings near the end of their swing which is where they are moving the slowest.

I think this may be a female Calliope hummingbird
