SECOND TO NONE

We're so arrogant, aren't we? So afraid of age, we do everything we can to prevent it. We don't realize what a privilege it is to grow old with someone. Someone who doesn't drive you to commit murder or doesn't humiliate you beyond repair.

--P.S. I Love You

I had to try this after seeing Anda's shot of Ouzo in her pink hat. At least this is a manly color. ;)

Bethlehem checkpoint on the morning (with the workers)

Time for some public humiliation!

when i am really sick, i try to see if i'll be able to shower before i disrobe so to speak. this day-day 18/365, absolutely no way. after just sliding down the wall and at times trying to pull myself up and failing, miserably, i called for my mom and had her bring my laptop. i wanted to show this (thanks to macbook's photobooth!) process with all the humiliation it entails. it is very difficult to show these--so please be kind. xxx

Heeks. He was deeply humiliated. "Young man, if you call that good

sense," rumbled the deep voice of John Carmody, "then I don't agree

with you. You condemn Darrin-----" "Who is speaking?" roared Lieutenant

Cantor. "My name is John Carmody," returned

the planter,

coolly. "Then be good

enough to remain silent,"

commanded Cantor. "Since I'm on

a government boat," retorted the planter, "I suppose I may as

well do as I'm ordered. But at some other time I shall air my opinion

of you, young man, as freely as I please." Lieutenant Cantor bit his

lips, then gave the order

to proceed to the appointed rendezvous. As Cantor's launch neared

Dalzell's steamer, the lieutenant ordered a rocket sent up. From away

over on the horizon an answering rocket was seen. Forty minutes later

the "_Long

Island_" lay to close by. Cantor's launch was the first to

go in alongside. "Were you successful?" hailed the voice of the

executive officer from the bridge. "Ensign Darrin was, sir," Cantor

replied, through the megaphone. "Are all the missing Americans safe?"

"Yes, sir," Cantor

continued. "And all our own men?" "Two killed, sir, and four

wounded, through what I believe to be disobedience of orders."

Instructions came for Lieutenant Cantor's launch to lay alongside. Soon

after the men were on deck and the launch hoisted into place. Then,

under orders, Darrin ran alongside.

First of all his wounded men

were passed on hoard, being there received by hospital stewards from

the sick bay.

Then, amid impressive silence, the two dead men were taken on board.

"Ensign Darrin," directed the officer of the deck, from the bridge,

"you are directed to report to Captain Gales, at once." Saluting, and

holding himself very erect, Dave Darrin stepped proudly aboard. His

face was white and angry as he neared the captain's quarters, but the

young ensign strove

to command himself, and tried to keep his sorely tried temper

within bounds. "You will pass inside, sir, at once," directed the

marine orderly, as

the young officer halted

near the door. Acknowledging the marine's salute, Dave Darrin passed

him and entered the office. Lieutenant

Cantor, erect

and stern, faced Captain Gales,

"..short and stout. Here is my handle, here is my spout"

A church and monastery were founded here around 1350 by the Umiliati (Humiliated) order and initially dedicated to Saint Christopher, the patron saint of the gondoliers. Tiberio da Parma, the leader of the Order, and said to have been responsible for the original design of the church, is buried here. During the building of this church an unfinished statue of the Madonna, made by Giovanni de Santis (but also said to have fallen from heaven) and kept in an orchard (orto) nearby following its rejection by the Prior of Santa Maria Formosa, for which church it had been carved, started getting a reputation for glowing and working miracles. The church bought the statue, with the intention of thereby increasing offerings towards the cost of the building work, and on 18th June 1377 it was placed on the high altar. Since then the church has been known as Madonna dell'Orto. More www.churchesofvenice.co.uk/cannaregio.htm#madellort

As a good portion of my contacts were not even born when this was taken - this was my junior prom, May 1977. My date was a friend. This was in So Cal, prior to my east coast college years. PS - this is also for the Xmas project I'm working on for my folks!

Final score: Humiliation 4, Vees 2. It was a close one, they got an empty-netter.

Nobody has to know. (Imogen Heap: Tidal) Today is a really good day.

Yesterday I feel like I humiliated myself, and when I humiliate myself, I get a bit aggressive and angry. So after I spat out my dummy for a while, I decided what's done is done and I can't change what's in the past, so there you go. Then I went to do KenKen Puzzles and listened to Imogen Heap. The one Imogen Heap song that I'm listening to a lot right now is called "Between Sheets". All the way through the making of "Ellipse" album, she Vlogged to update fans on it's status. Here's the Vlog (which was when the album was complete) where she talks about why "Between Sheets" ended up smack bang in the middle.

The reason why today is a good day is because my friend got notification from the Home Office that she is now a Permanent British Resident. Which is pretty much the awesomest news I've heard in a while. I told her if she was denied residency that I'd marry her so she could stay. (JK.) I'm really hoping to get to London in a few weeks so I can see her and Jasmin and maybe Scarleth too! I wrote her a card (I really like handwritten cards and notes, and I think it's a bit more personal than a Tweet or a FB Post) and didn't die in the queue at the Post Office..

I hope everyone has a good Bank Holiday Weekend. The weather isn't supposed to be great, but it wasn't supposed to be great all week and it's been alright.

The "space dog" vest of humiliation.

humiliating yourself to cheer things up? now that's happiness.

Mixed media on paper, 2013.

But the Lord stands beside me like a great warrior.

Before him my persecutors will stumble.

They cannot defeat me.

They will fail and be thoroughly humiliated.

Their dishonor will never be forgotten.
