South Beach socialites all head to Glass at the Forge when the evening agenda calls for a night of upscale lounging. Glass is steeped in Hollywood history, starting off previously as a cigar lounge with private humidors for the likes of Oliver Stone and Bono. The venue was transformed when owner Shareef Malnik teamed up with Miami designer Allison Spear to create an upscale lounge space that packs in a star-studded crowd.

Indoor with Sony a77 and Minolta Beercan Lenses.

This Cord was one of the most beautiful and striking cars I've ever had the pleasure of seeing in person. It is low and wide, with teardrop shaped bodywork that is mimicked throughout different areas of the car. Beautiful from every angle, it is literally impossible to take a bad photograph of this car.

Built in the high times of refinement and elegance, this car came with everything. Need a cigar? Check the built in humidor in the driver's door. Care for a single malt scotch? That would be in the bar, built into the passenger's door. From the painstaking detail in the interior to the flawless plum pearl paint, this Cord is truly rolling art. I imagine that driving this car was not viewed as a task in the owner's mind, but an occasion to be savored.

Favorite team labels on each edible cigar.

Getting stocked up for the holidays...

Humidor Update July 4, 2009.

Yes, they are not fashionable, but you may not know I was a proud tobacconist for a few years and still appreciate a cigar now and then (mostly then, I'll admit it's been a very long time that I've smoked one ). That being said, I'm currently restoring two very dry Davidoff 2000s and four gorgeous Piramdes that we bought in the U.K. last summer. It's a surprising delicate process and I'm proud that I know how to do it right! These should be just perfect in a couple of months.

I studied Lewis Allen's chapter on dampening paper, and also perused the LetPress archives. I decided that for now this is the way I'd do it:

(1) Dampen each sheet by dabbing both sides with a sponge that has been moistened with distilled water.

(2) Stack the sheets and put them in a ZipLoc bag under a weight, which happened to be a few flat, heavy cutting boards.

(3) Turn the stack a few times over the course of 24 hours.

This produced sheets the were nicely, uniformly limp. To keep them damp between printing the frame and the text, I improvised a humidor from a covered casserole dish, wet paper towels, a baking rack, and a small cutting board. This is one of the advantages of having your press 15 feet from the kitchen.

Continuing with my theme of rampant hedonism, this is a shot of some of my favorite smokes, liberated from my humidor and laying on my dining room table.

Strobist Info: Nikon D-90 with 2 SB-600 speedlights both bare aimed at the cigars. One was camera right set on manual 1/00 power, one camera left set on manual 1/40 power. CLS triggered by the built in commander on the D-90 set on --- so as not to contribute to the exposure.

Kieffer's, in Liverpool NY, has been in the family for generations. The small cigar, lottery, and news store attracts many repeat clientele with its large selection of scratch offs and high quality cigars. The store has a walk-in humidor and allows customers to smoke inside. Currently, the store is run by all females.

I do not exaggerate when I say that I truly love cigars. I have just been collecting as much cigar stuff as I can; old boxes, pictures, ashtrays. I have a great collection of cutters and lighters, seven humidors a 2006 New York Times article personally signed by Jose Padron, and picture with and signature of Benji Menendez who I met at a local cigar dinner. I proudly display in my garage where I often play cards and ***** pool with my buds, but can not smoke.

Where I currently smoke is the front yard, right on the steps, if it is raining I use and umbrella. I have stopped smoking in the backyard because if I am not quick enough my dogs will take my cigars, even lit. So many times I wish I could just sit finish up work, watch a little t.v., not in the extreme cold or heat and enjoy a great smoke to cap off the night. I have plenty of ideas to have a smoking area and my own little cigar museum. With a great cave I can smoke and educate about cigars.

Thank you.

- Jeff M.

I recently got a bunch of cigars my gf brought from Cuba. Good thing they aren't illegal in Mexico :) I've had this little humidor for some years and it has never been so full as today. Happy days!

This oak humidor was made (as near as I can figure) between 1890 and early 1900s. It's lined with tin and has a removable metal filter that would have been used to control moisture in the box. The corners are slat joined and nicely mitered at a 45-degree angle.
