I bought a humidifier a couple of weeks ago when I had a cold and my throat was all dry-ish from the heater running in my room and my nose was bleeding because I was blowing it so much and it was so dry.
The hard part was not spending so much money on one. They're designed so great over here. with many different shapes and finishes. I went with simple, but not your standard blah plastic box. It's small so it doesn't take up much space, but it has enough reservoir space that I can run it overnight and not have it run out of water.

This humidifier runs next to my bed all night in the winter. Sometimes its groans and whirs are so interesting that they keep me awake and I have to turn it off. It plays little cadences, drones, and repeating beats that constantly change. Or I'm just hallucinating in my half-asleep state.
I've been meaning to record it for months. It didn't do anything particularly exciting during these 45 seconds, but you can hear it subtly change even in that time.

yes, i did just turn 29, thankyouverymuch, but colorado's dry winter air and i don't get along. i have a reasonable, cheap humidifier, but this one is GREEN. and a FROG. and it makes being a crazy old lady bothered by dry air a little bit more cheerful and bearable.
