Loved the contrast of this stairwell and stairs. Handheld shot taken on a bright sunny day...just needed to wait for the human element to enter the scene!

haven't posted (or shot) a fence photo, in bokeh or any color for that matter, in a while ....

happy fence Friday, folks

At the Steam-Up @ Steamtown today, with the Aikenback group, my friend Kyle ran our friend Jeremy's 2-cylinder Shay for much of the afternoon. I got this photo of Kyle checking on the loco as it made one of its many laps.

Unlike most other things from Accucraft, this loco seemed to run just as well in forwards as it did in reverse.

As I write for a magazine about live steam I am always trying to include the human element in my photography.

I love the sounds in an airport. I like the sounds of baggage wheels clacking on the moving sidewalk, a boarding pass being torn off, and my passport being stamped. All of those are comforting reminders that I am either almost home or soon to be somewhere new and exciting.

(1820–1899).

Aufgenommen während unseres FlickrTreffens im Mai 2018.

The Versmann House in Hamburg was built in 1910-1912 to plans by Johann Gottlieb Rambatz and Wilhelm Jollasse as an office building with shops, café and restaurant.

The corner building leads over seamlessly from Knochenhauertwiete of the then newly created Mönckebergstraße to the side edge of the Rathausmarkt.

The sandstone facade was originally crowned with neo-Renaissance gables and roof dormers. After the war damage the upper floors had been repaired several times regardless of the original shape. Since 1987, a design framework has been defined that attempts to ensure the diversity of façade structures during modernization.

The name reminds of Mayor Johannes Versmann (1820-1899).

The St. Pauli Piers (German: St. Pauli Landungsbrücken, often only referred to as Landungsbrücken) are the largest landing place in the Port of Hamburg and also one of Hamburg's major tourist attractions. Other English language translations include St. Pauli Landing Stages or St. Pauli Landing Bridges.

The piers are located in the St. Pauli area of Hamburg, between the lower harbour and the Fischmarkt (Fish Market), on the banks of the Elbe river. The Landungsbrücken today form a central transportation hub, with S-Bahn, U-Bahn and ferry stations, and are also a major tourist magnet with numerous restaurants and departure points for harbour pleasure boats. There is an entrance to the Old Elbe tunnel at the western end of the Landungsbrücken. The eastern end of the building complex is marked by the Pegelturm (water level tower). Halfway up the tower, there is a water level indicator built into the wall, which indicates the current stage of the tides.

Happy Slider Sunday!

Blow this up and take a minute, there is so much going on in this one small scene. I couldn't have choreographed it better, but try as I might I still can't find Waldo.

This couple dangled their legs out into nothing and ate lunch in one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Terrific views, but the service is terrible..... :-)

Summit Lake has a loop trail all the way around, I suggest going counter clockwise for the views will be in front and the steepest climb is that ridge to the right. That's Bearhead Peak and in the back that's umm Mount Rainier.... :-) It's been weeks since I've posted a MR shot, thought I'd slip one in here. :-)

The devoted follower will have realized that I've posted a shot before that I had taken in this very location. Well, today I got another chance to find an interesting angle on this.

I was trying to use the strong lines to my advantage and get a human element just entering this little "foyer in the foyer!" The mirror is great, of course, to create an illusion of depth. Getting the vertical lines straight wasn't the easiest bit of post processing here. Whenever I got those straight, I totally hated how crooked the mirror looked. It was always going to be tricky since it's not flush on the wall but rather protrudes into the room on the bottom.

This is an interesting shot in terms of reflections, because one would normally think that part on the left was the "real world", I think, due to the way those shots normally work. In this case though, the whole thing's a reflection as you can tell by the word "Hotel" written backwards in the background across the street. I'll be interested to hear how many people you think are actually in the frame...anyway, happy Friday everyone...
