Los humanos somos capaces de construir desde una pequeña baliza al puente más sofisticado, pero solo podemos admirar los atardeceres.

Humans are capable of building from a small beacon to the most sophisticated bridge, but we can only admire the sunsets.

This is a small part of an exhibit at Birmingham Museum.

The artwork was done by Donald Rodney (1961- 1998) and titled as "Land of Milk and Honey II" Rodney was born in Birmingham. He used objects in his work to explore aspects of the human experience. His father migrated to Smethwick from the Carribean in the mid 20th century, in search of a better life in the "Land of Milk and Honey" The Vitrine contains coins and milk. They represent the 'sourced' reality many migrants actually experienced. The material he used will deteriorate and change over time.

When I met Michelle Zauner, lead singer of Japanese Breakfast, and autobiographical Crying in H Mart for this portrait, she was funny and sweet and I didn't know even a tenth of the multitudes she contains at that time. I'd recommend both her music and her autobiography, which gets into her relationship with her mom and her Korean identity and it also lays bare the process of grieving she goes through as her mom dies from Cancer. Zauner is honest and strong and an amazing human. I feel so honored I was able to take this portrait photo of her!

Her new album Jubilee was released June 4th!

One of the most common and widespread sparrows in North America. Fairly large with a long, rounded tail. Overall coarsely patterned with gray and brown, usually with more reddish-brown wings and tail. Look especially for thick brown streaks on the underparts and a broad dark mustache stripe. Significant variation in plumage geographically: relatively pale and rusty in the southwestern U.S.; blacker streaking in California; overall dusky in the Pacific Northwest. Larger, longer-tailed and usually more rusty than Savannah Sparrow. Found in a variety of scrubby habitats both near and far from human development, especially edges of fields, often near water. The eight-minute footage showing a white Minneapolis police officer slowly killing a black man has spread all around the world and caused an unprecedented outrage in lots of countries, not only in the US.

Last Thursday there was a demonstration against racism in Vienna, organized in connection with this horrible crime. The organizers had expected some 3,000 demonstrators, but eventually 50,000 demonstrators came (the number is an estimation given by the police).

Afterwards there was criticism, because covid-19 distance rules couldn't be followed in such a crowd. I didn't go there for fear of infection, and I suppose many others didn't take part in this demonstration for the same reason. Just imagine the crowd in the time without a pandemic!

I hope very much that all these demonstrations in the US and all over the world (the Vienna demonstration wasn't the only one outside the US) will be effective and lead to substantial changes and improvements in the US. The incumbent POTUS however isn't exactly much help in this situation...

Yes, I know about "how cute" and "who can resist?" We had her over a couple of times and she does know us. Even more, she seems to see us as part of her family. In fact, I believe that she regards herself as a "child" belonging to a family of humans. She made it perfectly clear that she has certain expectations in terms of participating in our social life, eating our kind of food - almost asking for equality and fair play. Now my question is, how does evolution work in this case? Did dogs evolve to bond with humans? Did humans develop affinity to dogs? Or, is there a process of mutual co-evolution or even co-assimilation?
