En su primera visita a Bilbao para reforzar la colaboración en materia de derechos humanos con instituciones vascas y la Universidad de Deusto, la abogada y activista Kerry Kennedy, presidenta de Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights, ofreció el 25 de octubre de 2024 una conferencia en la que puso el foco en las víctimas de guerras y genocidios, cuyos derechos humanos han sido y siguen siendo cruelmente violentados. Al respecto, lamenta que sea su país, Estados Unidos, quien aún hoy sigue proporcionando armas con las que millones de civiles están siendo asesinados en Gaza. La Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos, a través de su presidente, Raúl Plascencia Villanueva, reconoció al estado de Sinaloa como un aliado en los derechos humanos, y al gobernador Mario López Valdez por su compromiso y voluntad en el tema, en el marco de la firma de un convenio entre este organismo, el gobierno estatal y la Comisión Estatal de Derechos Humanos.
En este sentido, el mandatario sinaloense ratificó su compromiso de seguir respetando las libertades de los ciudadanos establecidas en las leyes vigentes, “porque en Sinaloa estamos en esa búsqueda de que haya armonía, de que haya respeto por la vida, por los derechos humanos y por el patrimonio de las personas”.
