Open up your heart … and your arms, this January 21 for National Hugging Day! Hug Day is a favourable way to show your loved ones and best friends that you care and make them feel special. A hug is an expression of love, a gesture that says 'I care for you’ in an unsaid manner. So spread your arms and embrace all your loved ones in life.
The inaugural National Hugging Day was held in Clio, Michigan, in the year 1986. Kevin Zaborney was the person behind the special concept. When he saw that individuals appeared to be a little down in mood after the holidays, specifically between Christmas, New Year's Day, and Valentine's Day, the thought struck on him.

I ran out to Hug Point last night to take some photos and got semi-skunked, not an uncommon experience when shooting night photos at the Oregon coast, unless you define "success" as shooting with tons of clouds.
I call it a semi-skunking because I decided to take photos anyway, despite the thick fog and some smoke particulates in the air that added a little redness to the scene (with the help of a setting moon).
The camera cut through a lot of the fog last night, so this doesn't really do the scene justice in my opinion. At times the fog was thick enough that I had to turn my headlamp off, and I was momentarily concerned I wouldn't be able to find my way back to the parking lot.
I usually don't toke photos of trees as main subject. But this boy begged me to do this by offering free hugs :)

Some sort of juvenile crab spider (Xysticus sp.) trying to look cute enough to get a hug.
I think I shot this one on a car, but I can't really remember whose car it was. Mine is silver so it is definitely not that one.
So I hugged quite a few trees this morning. :)
It's not as if I'm particularly partial to pine plantations... but if it wasn't for trees like these... then we probably wouldn't have any indigenous forests remaining?
Does a pine tree in South Africa deserve a hug? Or am I completely crazy for even considering hugging any tree? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this matter.
