It had been a while since I experienced snow in the winter. A recent trip to the Sierras brought back memories of snowy winters spent on the East Coast, helped me recharge my batteries and provided me a much needed chance to dust the cobwebs off of my cameras. The snow covered landscapes were such a joy! In this scene, shot with my DJI Mini 3 pro, I was drawn by the contrast of the white snow on the ground against the warm light of the setting sun shining on the tree tops on the side of the mountains

ENGLISH

Pals is a medieval town in Catalonia a few kilometres from the sea in the heart of the Bay of Emporda on the Costa Brava. It lies on the C31 Palafrugell to L'Estartit road.

The name Pals came from the Latin "palus", wich means marshland. In fact, in former times the hill on wich the town is located, which was called Mont Aspre, was surrounded by lakes and marshes.

The first reference to the town dates from 889, and already mentions the town and the castle. The church of Sant Pere, in the centre of the old district, is of Romanesque origin. However, it was rebuilt in 1478 with Gothic elements and during the 18th century it was adorned with new facade.

In 1478 the city walls were restores and the ruined Castle of Pals was demolished, though the keep, know as the Tower of the Hours because it housed a small Gothic belltower, is still standing.

CASTELLANO

Bottlenose dolphin View Nose Dip On Black

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bottlenose dolphins, the genus Tursiops, are the most common and well-known members of the family Delphinidae, the family of oceanic dolphins. Recent molecular studies show the genus contains two species, the Common Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) and the Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops aduncus), where previous thought was that this was one species. Bottlenose dolphins inhabit warm and temperate seas worldwide.

Bottlenose dolphins live in groups called pods that typically number about 15 dolphins, but group size varies from solitary bottlenose dolphins up to groups of over 100 or even occasionally over 1000 animals. Their diet consists mainly of forage fish. Dolphin groups often work as a team to harvest schools of fish, but they also hunt individually. Dolphins search for prey primarily using echolocation, which is similar to sonar. They emit clicking sounds and listen for the return echo to determine the location and shape of nearby items, including potential prey. Bottlenose dolphins also use sound for communication. Sounds used for communication include squeaks and whistles emitted from the blowhole and sounds emitted through body language, such as leaping from the water and slapping their tails on the water.

There have been numerous investigations of bottlenose dolphin intelligence. Such testing has included tests of mimicry, use of artificial language, object categorization and self-recognition. This intelligence has driven considerable interaction with humans. Bottlenose dolphins are popular from aquarium shows and television programs such as Flipper. They have also been trained by militaries for tasks such as locating sea mines or detecting and marking enemy divers. In some areas they cooperate with local fishermen by driving fish towards the fishermen and eating the fish that escape the fishermen's nets. Some encounters with humans are harmful to the dolphins: people hunt bottlenose dolphins for food, and dolphins are killed inadvertently as a bycatch of tuna fishing. A bottlenose dolphins can jump up 16 feet out of the water.[citation needed]

Back on shore from Flower Pot Island and back to the Bruce Peninsula. Ontario's longest footpath.

This is a beach I have frequented many times on the Bruce Trail. But I have a hard time finding a really good eye pleasing composition with the rocks and the shoreline. So with that said, I'm not in love with this photo, but I visited this spot so many times I needed to post something, haha.

I need to definitely work on this part of my photography "eye". Maybe I need some tutorials by some of my flickr friends who are brilliant at it for example:

Yannick, T Glow, Rob Cherry, Helminadia, Stephen Moore or Antony Spencer.

I liked this view because of the the different colours and textures in the rocky shoreline in the foreground, two totally different colour temperatures. The sky was really beautiful that morning too.

I wanted this photo as natural as possible so I shot at a very fast shutter speed to capture the water. Didn't have time to try the Big Stopper from this vantage point, unfortunately.

This will be one of my last Bruce Peninsula photographs, then I will be taking you down highway 6 towards some breathtaking displays of water works.... ;-)

PREFACE

"SHADHINOTA is My Cause for the 40th Celebration of BANGLADESH Independence. The land, the mighty rivers and the natural beauty makes Bangladesh a land of unparalleled splendor and magnificence. Bangladesh was liberated after a prolonged war of Independence the declaration of which was given on 26th MARCH 1971. One of the worst genocides Genocide in history took place at the behest of an autocratic regime in the name of Political stability spearheaded by the then Pakistan President Yah ya Khan. After 9 months of Liberation water and the sacrifice of 3 million lives Victory came. In addition to the loss of lives countless others were rendered homeless, the infrastructure including roads and bridges and factories lay in ruins. The people of Bangladesh have shown time and again how resilient they are. After each and every disaster, natural or man-made the people have again stood up and started all over again from scratch.

My Effort here is to pay tribute to the valiant sons of the soil and the ‘die hard’ attitude of a people who can still smile in the face of adversity however great it may be. I plan to make a collage of images that represent the lives of the people of Bangladesh. I encourage you to upload a photo each day till I have a total of 40 images for the Cause SHADHINOTA in the group Frame BANGLADESH"

Description :The Bengali Language Movement: and in Bangali Trnslation to ভাষা আন্দোলন

The Bengali Language Movement: Can read In Bangoli here]ভাষা আন্দোলন, also known as the Language Movement (Bengali: ভাষা আন্দোলন; Bhasha Andolon), was a political effort in Bangladesh (then known as East Pakistan), advocating the recognition of the Bengali language as an official language ofPakistan. Such recognition would allow Bengali to be used in government affairs. When the state of Pakistan was formed in 1947, its two regions, East Pakistan (also called East Bengal) and West Pakistan, were split along cultural, geographical, and linguistic lines. In 1948, the Government of Pakistan ordained Urdu as the sole national language, sparking extensive protests among the Bengali-speaking majority of East Pakistan. Facing rising sectarian tensions and mass discontent with the new law, the government outlawed public meetings and rallies. The students of the University of Dhaka and other political activists defied the law and organised a protest on 21 February 1952. The movement reached its climax when police killed student demonstrators on that day. The deaths provoked widespread civil unrest led by the Awami Muslim League, later renamed the Awami League. After years of conflict, the central government relented and granted official status to the Bengali language in 1956. In 2000,UNESCO declared 21 February International Mother Language Day for the whole world to celebrate[1], in tribute to the Language Movement and the ethno-linguistic rights of people around the world. The Language Movement catalysed the assertion of Bengali national identity in Pakistan, and became a forerunner to Bengali nationalist movements, including the 6-point movement and subsequently the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. In Bangladesh, 21 February is observed as Language Movement Day, a national holiday. The Shaheed Minar monument was constructed near Dhaka Medical College in memory of the movement and its victims

Background

The present nations of Pakistan and Bangladesh were part of undivided India during the British colonial rule. From the mid-19th century, the Urdu language had been promoted as thelingua franca of Indian Muslims by political and religious leaders such as Sir Khwaja Salimullah, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Nawab Viqar-ul-Mulk and Maulvi Abdul Haq.[2][3] Urdu is an Indo-Aryan language of the Indo-Iranian branch, belonging to the Indo-European family of languages. It developed under Persian, Arabic and Turkic influence on apabhramshas (last linguistic stage of the medieval Indian Aryan language Pali-Prakrit)[4] in South Asia during the Delhi Sultanate and Mughal Empire.[5] With its Perso-Arabic script, the language was considered a vital element of the Islamic culture for Indian Muslims; Hindi and the Devanagari script were seen as fundamentals of Hindu culture.[2]While the use of Urdu grew common with Muslims in northern India, the Muslims of Bengal (a province in the eastern part of British Indian sub-continent) primarily used the Bengali language. Bengali is an Eastern Indo-Aryan language that arose from the eastern Middle Indic languages around 1000 CE[6] and developed considerably during the Bengal Renaissance. As early as the late 19th century, social activists such as the Muslim feminist Roquia Sakhawat Hussain were choosing to write in Bengali to reach out to the people and develop it as a modern literary language. Supporters of Bengali opposed Urdu even before the partition of India, when delegates from Bengal rejected the idea of making Urdu the lingua franca of Muslim India in the 1937 Lucknow session of the Muslim League. The Muslim League was a British Indian political party that became the driving force behind the creation of Pakistan as a Muslim state separate from British India.[7]

A soft winter feeling here, and a quick side trip to this amazing city! I love the rich tapestry of this visually exciting place full of history ... and wanted to share a few Prague images from my archives. A rainy afternoon, a walk up into Malastrana near where we were staying on the Royal Road, in a 17th century building called the House of Three Fiddles. A great place to stay! This is the Church of Our Lady Victorious, the first baroque church of Prague. (Thanks to Flickr friend Semmi for that info in her comment below!)

I no longer shoot with the Fuji Finepix S 7000 that I was using in Prague, but I still love this shot of the the skyline and rooftops taken with that trusty little camera.....such a wondrous fairyland of a city!

Hello friends! TGIF!!!

Here is my next photo of the beautiful falls a few minutes from downtown Owen Sound in Ontario, Canada: Indian Falls

I prefer this view as I stated in my earlier post, mainly because of the light around the trees and the little rainbow. I like the dark ominous clouds in the sky as well here. With all that light and the Big Stopper this was an 8 second exposure at f/13.

For more information and a close up on these falls check out my previous post here.

Next stop.....

stay tuned............

I hope everybody has a wonderful weekend! I have to work most of the weekend, but I get Sunday Monday off so my next post will be Monday morning. Take care have fun and be safe! =)

Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choi_Hung_Estate:

Choi Hung Estate (彩虹邨; lit. 'rainbow estate') is a public housing estate in Ngau Chi Wan, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It was built by the former Hong Kong Housing Authority (屋宇建設委員會) and is now managed by the current Hong Kong Housing Authority. It received a Silver Medal at the 1965 Hong Kong Institute of Architects Annual Awards.

Choi Hung Estate is located in Ngau Chi Wan and is surrounded by several of eastern Kowloon Peninsula's major roads. To the north is Lung Cheung Road; to the south Prince Edward Road East; to the west Kwun Tong Bypass and to the east Clear Water Bay Road.

The Hong Kong government granted the land to the Hong Kong Housing Authority to build a large housing estate in 1958. The blocks of the estate were completed between 1962 and 1964. An opening ceremony was held in 1963 with the presence of then Hong Kong Governor, Sir Robert Brown Black. A signboard commemorating the ceremony is located in the estate's Lam Chung Avenue.

Accommodating nearly 43,000 people, it was the largest public housing estate at the time.

In November 2023 it was reported that Choi Hung Estate was earmarked for redevelopment meaning that 43,000 residents will require rehoming.

In October 2024, the redevelopment plan was revealed in the Wong Tai Sin District Council. It was proposed to demolish Tan Fung House, Pik Hoi House, Kam Pik House, Market and two former Sheng Kung Hui primary schools buildings in between 2028 and 2029 as the first phase, residents in the three blocks will be settled to the new blocks in Mei Tung Estate. Once the first phase is expected to complete in between 2035 and 2036, the blocks will settle the residents in Pak Suet House, Hung Ngok House, Kam Wan House and Kam Wah House when the next phase begins. The final phase is expected to begin in between 2042 and 2043, the residents in the last remaining blocks (Chi Mei House, Luk Ching House, Chui King House and Kam Hon House) will be settled to the new blocks in the second phase. The number of units will be increased to 9200 once the entire redevelopment plan is completed in between 2048 and 2049.

The estate has 11 residential blocks, one car park, and five schools, with various shops and restaurants on the ground floor of each block. Roads in the estate connect the blocks to each other and to major roads.

According to the 2016 by-census, Choi Hung Estate had a population of 18,435. The median age was 48 and the majority of residents (96 per cent) were of Chinese ethnicity. Cantonese was the predominant usual spoken language (93 per cent), followed by other varieties of Chinese excluding Mandarin (4.5 per cent), non-English and non-Chinese languages (2 per cent), Mandarin (0.5 per cent), and English (0.3 per cent).

The average household comprised 2.5 persons. The median monthly household income of all households (i.e. including both economically active and inactive households) was HK$15,290.

The estate is photogenic and has become a tourism hot-spot. The most photographed view of the estate includes the basketball court and rainbow apartments behind. Some journalists and researchers have been vocal against the growing Instagram popularity of the area, criticising that it is a shallow view of the complex social history of the council estate in Hong Kong, as well as driving away locals who want to use the space. Though some locals have also begun selling photos for profit to tourists. It has been suggested that the location is popular not only for the aesthetics, but also because it allows the photographers and selfie-takers to feel as if they are in the middle of the world - compared to the more detached equally-aesthetic Hong Kong skyline shots. In 2017, a photograph of the building was shortlisted for the Arcaid Award, an architecture photography prize.

Another shot, this one is from desert view location at the Grand Canyon National Park. We started our drive up to the canyon at 4:00 in the morning as the sunrise was at 6:00 and it’s about an hour and a half long drive.

Once we were near the Park entrance I could actually see the light breaking through and we were in a hurry to get to the desert view outlook. We managed to get there in time and as soon as we got out of the car, we got a lesson in temperature elevation relationship. It was cold and extremely windy, I had to hold down by 4 pound tripod so that it won’t get knocked over by the bitter cold wind. This was the first shot I took of the sunrise which was much vivid than any I have seen in a long time.

Thanks for visiting, hope everyone enjoys the image.

I have been trying F O R E V E R to get ANY shots of lightning!! i love it! i love thunderstorms! Last night a storm rolled in from the bay, and i felt the need to try again. This time i actually got something. Of course i was not content to try and get this from the window....or the porch of the beach house....i was in the street......leaning on metal! i did not think about that at the time....i was too fascinated with trying to capture anything other than a black sky and the house lights across the road!!

if you look REALLY close in the comment shots there are little lightning bolts there!!! i was super excited about that....i never ever EVER get those...i just wish there were more of them, but it was a flashing kind mostly behind the clouds. I can't wait to try this again....perhaps minus leaning on a metal vehicle!!!

oh...and i was pretty impressed with the high ISO on these too!! (yes...these were hand held, mainly because i was too excited at the prospect of shooting lightning...sorry Jeff, maybe next time!!)

I hope your not tired of firework shots just yet....some of the best are yet to come.

Explored Jan 2, 2012

San Francisco rang in the New Year with one of the best firework shows I have seen much less filmed. Several Pink Butterfly fireworks erupt over the skyscrapers that make up San Francisco's unique skyline. The fireworks reflect in the shimmering waters of San Francisco Bay as seen from atop Yerba Buena Island.

To the far right, you can see the Transamerica building with its stunning ornament that strobes and twinkles brightly in the distance. The famous Embarcadero Center are the towers outlined with lights and just below it and to the left you can make out the red lights atop the Port of San Francisco's restored clock tower.

Just prior to the bridge you can see the fairly new tower known as One Ricon Hill and of course the famous suspension section of the beautifully lit Bay Bridge. The far south, the hills of South San Francisco are adorn with lights from the many antenna towers. It all makes for one incredible New Years Eve vision of the City by the Bay.

my heart used to be

hold the earth above me

lay down in the green grass

remember when you loved me

come closer don't be shy

stand beneath a rainy sky

the moon is over the rise

think of me as the train goes by

clear the thistles and brambles

whistle didn't he ramble

now there's a bubble of me

and it's floating in thee

stand in the shade of me

things are now made of me

the weather vane will say

it smells like rain today

god took the stars and he

tossed 'em can't tell

the birds from the blossoms

you'll never be free of me

he'll make a tree from me

don't say goodbye to me

dscribe the sky to me

and if the sky falls mark

my words - we'll catch mucking birds

lay your head where

my heart used to be

hold the earth above me

lay down in the green grass

remember when you loved me

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) is an independent registered educational charity[1] based in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England, that came into existence in 1847 following the purchase of William Shakespeare's birthplace for preservation as a national memorial.[2] It can also lay claim to be the oldest conservation society in Britain.[3] Receiving no government funding or public subsidies, it is totally dependent upon the public for support, and relies on donations and the income generated from visitors.[2]

The SBT is considered the most significant Shakespeare charity in the world, and endeavours to internationally promote the appreciation and study of the plays and other works of William Shakespeare, and general advancements of Shakespearean knowledge. The Trust maintains and preserves the Shakespeare Birthplace properties, a museum, library of books, manuscripts, records of historic interest, pictures, photographs and objects of antiquity with particular reference to the life and times of William Shakespeare,[4] and is also home to the headquarters of the International Shakespeare Association. wikipedia
