Flatten out the cut with a file. I use a pretty giant half-round one for this. File all the way down until you're happy with the shape. If you goofed a bit on the initial cut, you can correct in this step.
Here's the finished bag holder. Clip it on the belt and keep your trash visible and handy so everyone can see you're cleaning up.
STEP THREE: Once the icing had crusted, I used regular Viva paper towels to smooth the icing. This step helps the surface of the cake to more closely resemble plastic--a definite must when you are creating an Xbox controller!
Next, I piped gray-tinted buttercream on the edge of the cake to match the controller.
If you're using cheap, $1 per plastic bottle acrylics, as I am, then you're going to need to give the canvas a base coat, so that you can't see through to the canvas when you're done.
Let dry.
Cut the chain with the wire cutters, so that it will create a necklace of the desired length. I simply held the chain together and looked in the mirror to see where I should cut. Only remove the unwanted chain, keep the cut chain link "attached."
use a wide headband to conceal the horizontal part. if this is a dressy occasion, hopefully you have a nicer headband than mine. hairspray liberally and smooth any stray hairs with your fingers.
Once the needle pokes through the front fabric, you may need to use the needle nose pliers to pull it the rest of the way out. You should leave a 3 or 4 inch tail of thread on the wrong-side of the headboard. You will need this later to tie off the threads.

Note: we did not get a photo of the "add essential oil" step. We used a mini pipette. We added 20 drops of willamette valley peppermint essential oil. Mint essential oil is strong. If you use another essential oil you may want to add a few more drops depending on how strong you want the scent.
We used a large pipette to put the final mixture into the containers as it can be a messy job and we wanted the containers to be clean.

Pin and sew your skirt to the bodice. Keep the bodice buttoned so that they overlap like in the above picture.
Cut/flatten the other tube in the same manner. Match them face-to-face to see if they're the same. They should be as close as possible.
One usually ends up being larger than the other, so I go back to the smaller one and make them equal.

Having the right pot is key. This was my grandmothers, then my mothers, now mine. It's a double walled cast aluminum 4.5 quart pot. You can also use any good, heavy stock pan but make sure it holds at least 4 quarts or don't double the recipe!
