Keeping one eye on me while preening. Very friendly and not too concerned at all. Please left click for more detail.
Why are the colors of sunset so fleeting. One moment, you are overwhelmed by the breathtaking beauty of the sky and in literally the next instant it is gone. I get it I think. A day of spectacular beauty would be taken for granted, unappreciated, and offers nothing to look forward to at the end of the day. That makes sense. How clever was the architect that dreamed this cycle up for us.
Yesterday morning, I took Lina to my friend Annalisa's house to see how she would get on with her new puppy Ivie. Both dogs were fine, particularly after Annalisa had filled them up with treats! Ivie is a cute little thing, around 15 weeks old now. Last time I visited her, without Lina, she spent the whole time on Annalisa's lap, but this time she was up and down, chewing my shoelaces etc! Lina had a little wander around, but ended up on the sofa next to me once she felt settled.
(Lina was sick last night, but I think it may be her own fault! While we were at Annalisa's, Lina ate Ivie's breakfast, that was in a bowl in the kitchen!! Lina has renal failure so is on a diet at home - I can only guess this is her punishment for eating the pup's food!!)
A lot of my Flickr contacts do this much better than me; but it was great fun having a go.
Also quite weird not having to sneak up on my subject - but at least the word 'stalk' is still applicable. I was a little bit alarmed when I heard that the government is seeking to introduce a new law on 'stalking' soon; my wife has since reassured me that they were talking about something else entirely.
...back to deer soon :-)
PS - Beyond "Fly Agaric" I'm struggling with the ID on these, so if anyone can add some insight then your input/knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
This is what happens if I'm let loose with my DSLR on "Dogwalk". Jim and the dogs get a tad hacked off having to wait for me. "20 minutes to photograph one fungus? It'll better be worth it." I kept the poor trio waiting quite a while on several occasions today as there were so many fresh specimens of slime moulds too. I lose all track of time when I'm out in the woods. Quicker with Optio W10!

If you're ever in the lake district Tarn Hows is well worth a visit. There is an easy 1¾ mile circular walk around the Tarn and as you can see on a bright clear day it's a beautiful location. To bring out the colours in the scene I fitted a polarising filter onto the lens.
How rare is this? About as being at the right place and the right time as you can ever get!! East and west bound Amtrak Empire Builders pass each other near Havre, MT on 09-29-97. A pair of General Electric P40DC’s power each train and are in the original color scheme Amtrak selected for this model. Three EMD F40’s used to be the normal power on the Builder.
The SD40-2s served the C&NW well all over their railroad from their purchase on into Union Pacific ownership. I certainly saw a lot of them. The 6847 retains its original "stagecoach yellow", the attendant nicks and rust are just how the units that hadn't cycled through the paint shop looked in the last years of the C&NW. Pulling past the signal and through the switches it gains speed with its first coach train trip of the day. August 10, 2024.
How much more do we have?

The Song for the Picture:
How it Feels to be Lost by Sleeping with Sirens
Lyrics:
Life is walking on a tight rope
With nothing but a blindfold
It's a long way, it's a long way down
I'm, yeah, I'm a little crazy
But can you really blame me?
It's a long way, it's a long way down
For every step that I take
I take two steps back
It's like a punch to the face
It's like a knife right in the
(Knife right in the, knife right in the, knife right in the)
It's like a knife right in the back
Like a bullet to the head
Why can't I understand?
The blood is on my hands
Now I'm standing on the edge
With nowhere to go (to go)
This is how it feels, this is how it feels
How it feels to be
Lost, lost
I've been stranded in an ocean
Treading water but it's hopeless, hopeless
It's a long way, it's a long way down
Why am I always on the brink of
Losing it all? Am I just wasting my time?
It's a long way, it's a long way down
For every step that I take
I take two steps back
It's like a punch to the face
It's like a knife right in the back
Like a bullet to the head
Why can't I understand?
The blood is on my hands
Now I'm standing on the edge
With nowhere to go (to go)
This is how it feels, this is how it feels
How it feels to be
Lost, lost, lost
And it's a long way down (it's a long way down)
And it's a long way down (long way down)
Why do I do this to myself?
Why do I put myself through hell?
And will I ever understand
The blood is on my hands?
(Knife right in the, knife right in the, knife right in the)
It's like a knife right in the back
Like a bullet to the head
Why can't I understand
The blood is on my hands?
Now I'm standing on the edge
With nowhere to go (to go)
This is how it feels, this is how it feels
How it feels to be
Lost, lost
How it feels to be
Lost
with the red light.
I placed a light on each side of him and the red light behind him.
I did the same with the blue light in the previous shot with drastically different results!
For the bluish cast, I changed my white balance to Incandescent.
Earlier today a friend made a comment about an old post back in 2011 and the subject of kumquats got a mention.
Coincidentally, I just penned a wee story about the same subject
Kumquats are one of my faved fruits. They are occasionally found in better supermarkets £14-£19 per kg. When I see them I normally resist the temptation.
A few days ago, I was passing by a small supermarket that is so close to me that I can see it from my balcony. It's run and owned by people from a number of middle eastern countries and their products, apart from staples and fruit and veg, reflects that - which is why I shop there quite often.
On the said occasion, I see on the pavement (where fresh fruit and veg are displayed) a box with a quantity of Kumquats. Oh, I exclaimed you have these? Why, one of the more senior staff (with whom I am in nodding acquaintanceship ) asks me? Well, I love them, says I. He fetched a small bag emptied all the fruit into it and presented it to me - no charge. I was well chaffed!
