Cattle are wonderful when you take time to talk to them. They are curious and friendly. Unfortunately they are also big, cumbersome and prone to panic. They have been known to trample people, whilst in herd, by accident.
My advice is to always take a map when out walking. You may find yourself crossing a field, on a recognised public footpath, with these curious beasts trotting towards you, en masse, because they want to know you and be close. . It can be frightening.
When your fear is at its greatest take out your OS and unfurl it. Tell them you have a map and are not frightened to use it. That should do the trick.
