On Thursday, September 29, the BCCK hosted one of our annual flagship events, the Garden Party at the British Embassy Seoul. Nearly 400 guests attended from British, other multinational, and Korean businesses and many were dressed in blue, white, and flowers which were the theme of the Garden Party. We had experiential booths where our guests could enjoy cars from Aston Martin, perfumes and bath products from Lush, plates and tea sets from Rory Dobner, a cake from Aiff Cake. McQueens Flowers created a photo wall tribute to her Majesty the Queen. Four Seasons Seoul created a special British menu and guests were able to enjoy Chandon Garden Spritz and Tanquerey cocktails as well as whiskey from Johnny Walker and Talisker and beer from Peroni and London Pride. Thank you to our sponsors and guests for attending our Garden Party and for your generosity with the charity raffle, proceeds of which will be donated to Myungdo Welfare Center. We look forward to seeing you the BCCK Christmas Lunch – details coming soon.

FORT IRWIN, Calif. – Hundreds of Fort Irwin community members turned out for the Weed Army Community Hospital (WACH) Dr. Mary E. Walker Center (MEWC) 2015 Open House Wednesday, 30 September. In an effort to expand its outreach efforts to the community, WACH command and staff hosted a relaxed, festive, informative day at the center. Each facet of the hospital and WACH patient care was represented by subject matter experts at booths and tables with plenty of take-away materials such as cards, flyers and informational brochures covering all aspects of health care available on Fort Irwin, including emergency medical services, environmental health and physical therapy, mental health and resiliency, dental services, nutrition, out-patient referrals, and other services provided to Soldiers and military family members by the WACH.

This year the WACH is encouraging families with young children to attend by arranging for each child to be presented with a free teddy bear as a welcome gift upon arrival. The bears will act as “surrogate patients” as the children take them through hospital procedures and mock appointments for exams, immunizations, check-ups and certification to help introduce and familiarize children to hospital procedures and personnel, as well as allay any fears a young visitor may have upon a first visit to the Weed Army Community Hospital. The children will carry their bear’s “medical folder” throughout the process and learn the importance of preventive medicine and maintaining good health at an early age.

Said Col. Jason Wieman, Weed Army Community Hospital Commander:

"From my point of view as the hospital commander and specifically as a doctor, one of the worst things about our profession is that we usually only get to see our patients when they are sick or hurt. It's my desire that my team is also involved in your lives while you’re healthy and doing well. We want to be involved in the daily lives of the Ft. Irwin family and we want to do everything we can to keep everyone healthy, prevent illnesses and injuries before they happen. There is a lot more to the Weed Army Community Hospital than treating illness or injury.”
