This is Horseshoe Bend/Canyon in Page Arizona taken during or May vacation. I wanted so bad to do a sunset here but the night before this shot it rained so hard that we ended up going to the movie theater instead. Then on Sunday after they told us that our Antelope Canyon tour was canceled due to flood waters in the canyon we headed to Horseshoe Bend to see if we could at least see this.
We got there and of course it was lightly raining...just enough to irritate you. Well we headed up to Horseshoe Bend along with about 100-200 other tourist hoping to stay dry long enough to get a couple good photos in. Well actually when we were just about to leave the sky opened up for about 10 minutes and the sun shined long enough for me to get a couple sunlit shots.
Horseshoe Bend is a majestic sight to behold. Part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, it is formed by the meandering Colorado River making a 270 degree horseshoe shaped bend in the sandstone rocks.
I spent about two hours around sunset with my tripod, taking 50+ shots, all three exposure brackets. The location was full of people, many getting very dangerously close to the edge of the rocks, which totally would freak me out. Several people were decked out with unique clothing, flowing white robes, clearly for their Instagram shots with their photographers in tow... Just an amazing experience.
This shot was at 5:40 PM, about 25 minutes after the last rays of sunshine over the rocks on the top left. It was almost blue hour but not yet dark enough for a deep blue sky.
3 xp HDR.

I stopped at the scenic Horseshoe Bend at Sunset. There's something mesmerizing about sitting at the edge and looking inside this time capsule. The Colorado river shaping it's way through like it has done for millions of years.

I am afraid of heights, so I did not move as close to the edge as someone else might while taking this image.
My friend let me shoot with her Sony A7, so this is new processing to me.
Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, United States. It is also referred to as the "east rim of the Grand Canyon." It is likely that the Colorado River will eventually cut through the neck of the bend, producing a natural bridge like those found at Natural Bridges National Monument. The river will then abandon Horseshoe Bend, leaving a cutoff meander resembling The Rincon further north.

I had this place in my bucket list for some time. When my niece invited us to her wedding I seized the opportunity to come here. The plan worked out well with noon at Upper Antelope Canyon and sunset here. Couldn't be perfect!
This image is a panorama from 15 frames to show more of the rock around it.
You all have a wonderful weekend..

This horseshoe bend is called 한반도 which translates to Korea peninsula. Took me quite a while to get it but I guess the middle part does look abit like Korea on the map if you stare long and hard enough 😂 in other news..

20 years ago I visited Horseshoe Falls in Tasmania. It has been a dream of mine to visit there again ever since. Recently I had that chance. Now I have an image worthy of the fond memories and love I have for this beautiful place.
Just had a brilliant few days up in Wales, we started a our trip in the Brecons, before heading north to Snowdonia.

Yes, it's a cliche classic shot, but that's what I wanted to capture. Got lucky with the sky on the first day of 2 sunset visits there.

Adult horseshoes serve as prey for sea turtles, alligators, horse conchs, and sharks. Horseshoe crabs are also extremely important to the biomedical industry because their unique, copper-based blue blood contains a substance called "Limulus Amebocyte Lysate", or "LAL"
